Your pharmacy is sooo nice! I work in a small 60 bed rehab facility. Our pharmacy is not much bigger than a closet. No room for overstock. 4 pyxis machines in the whole facility. 1 control pyxis in the pharmacy, but i love it! Wanting to start my PTCB soon!

I'm so ready to leave my retail pharmacy. I'm going on 3 years of being a tech and just renewed my certification for the first time. There's so much stuff going on in my pharmacy, my new manager isn't great and I'm honestly sick of patients talking to me like I'm nothing more than dirt or acting like they own me because I fill their viagra for them. I don't want to be a technician forever, but in the meantime it's something that fits for me. I want to start working at the hospital because there seems to be so much more I can learn! Thank you for this video. I keep getting rejected from the hospital, but this makes me want to work harder until I get the job! I'm not done with the video yet, so I'm sorry if you've said this already. But was starting out in the hospital scary? Did you take a while to adjust and get into a flow of a routine?

I love that your not giving up 😍🙌🏾 yes keep it up! Let me know if you need help with interview tips or resume edits. I completely understand how your feeling while working retail I had the same experience. It was so hard to stay I hated how I was being treated. So my first hospital job wasn’t scary at all I think I was just so excited to learn something new the fear went away lol. Now I’m working at this other hospital as a medication reconciliation pharmacy Technician and let me just say I’m ready to leave😒 I’m making a video more about what’s going on. But overall it didn’t take me long at all to get into a routine I love the training ( at my first hospital job) and everything was so sweet!

This is defiantly different from retail pharmacy. That's where I am right now and Im getting my license soon. I'm already studying for another degree but will be going back to become a pharmacist. Would you recommend a hospital over pharmacy? I heard that they are willing to pay for a lot of your tuition which is something I'll need help with. I want to go to a hospital eventually so I'd love to hear what you have to say regarding tuition reimbursement.

Yes it’s definitely different from retail 😀 and that’s exciting I’m actually in the process of apply for my prerequisites for pharmacist 🤩🙌🏾 I’m still looking into the tuition reimbursement. But I’ll definitely let you know as soon as I do💛 I won’t forget! But I do know Walmart has it where you can go to school for a dollar a day

How clinical does a pharmacy technicians job get in Canada? In the U.K. we are expected to take drug histories and counsel patients on medicines, how to take, how to store, possible interactions or contraindications. We tend to be the 2nd check on everything after a pharmacist screens a prescription just to ensure no mistakes have been made in the initial screening process…. Ideally I may say depending on competence. Some techs here are clinically qualified to do a 1st screen on a prescription then referring to a pharmacist when required. Us techs are registered healthcare professionals in the U.K. under the General pharmaceutical council.

Hey I started at Walgreens 2 years ago as a cashier and I moved up to PhT the beginning of this year. It's definitely more fulfilling BUT retail pharmacy (like any retail) is tough lol

Do you mind me asking how much you get paid? Or in general at hospital vs retail? Also, do you get pay more with a degree vs a certification? What do you recommend for a first timer? After watching your video I’m interested but have a lot of question. Hopefully you don’t mind me asking so much.

I am a sophomore in high school and dream of becoming a hospital pharmacy techinician along with some other things in the medical field mainly hospital! The primary reason why is because I wanna save lives and/or play a part in saving lives❤

i enjoy watching your videos so much! i really want to become a pharm tech but everyone is saying it isn't worth it and the pay isn't all that great, do you think it's a financially stable job?

Alissa Campano Awee thank you girly😍I do agree with the pay I believe we should get paid more but it’s definitely a stable job you can make a living with. People tend to forget that without pharmacy there really isn’t a hospital so everyone needs pharmacy techs so why is are pay so low 🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️ lol but definitely do what you love I’m happy to be a pharmacy tech but I’m definitely going back to school for something else. 😊

I worked at CVS and it ended up giving me very bad anxiety (many times even a panic attack). I applied to be a Hospital PT, I heard it's a lot less non-sense to deal with and more chill.

That’s great I hope you get that position! Also great way to get into the pharmacy at that hospital once they have an opening! Yes I completely agree if you’re unhappy with your job and it’s causing health problems, you should leave. No job is worth more than your own health 💛

Same, but Walgreens!! I've been a pht at Walgreens for a year (working here 2 years in total) and it has caused so much anxiety and a few attacks but I start a new job as a pht in a hospital this week!! You just have to stay focused on what you want and it'll be worth it

Thank you!! I rotate so my schedule is never the same but usually 7-3:30 or 10-6 😀 and really depends on your manager and the hospital hours.

Oh of course 🤗 you could be part time and prn (as needed) when I first started working at the hospital I was prn and just told them what hours I could work per week! But girl!!! I know how you feel lol

But it’s definitely easy to learn just gotta find a great way to study! Hey hey! We do have a night shift technician, but not all hospital pharmacies are opened 24/7. So from what I noticed and heard this isn’t how every hospital pharmacy tech works. My pharmacy we are trained and know how to do everything/rotate. Whereas some hospitals have a technician with one duty with no cross training. Definitely is fun I love being able to work everywhere in the pharmacy 😀 Shifting from retail to hospital was very smooth once he told me I was hired I wrote my two weeks notice for my current job. Nothing major, if you have the requirements and want a change I say go for it!!

Hi, when it comes to which allergy medication to take I think I have great knowledge. Since working in retail I heard my pharmacist go over multiple times to different customers which allergy medicine would work based off there symptoms. But other than that no😊 I hope to one day, I love learning about medications ingredients and how the work inside the body etc.

Hey girly!! Girl I literally applied to every hospital in my town lol make sure you have a amazing resume and try to get a pharmacist to write you a recommendation letter. Hey hey, I was bad at them both too! Finding a great study method will definitely help and taking great notes also I would voice record my teacher during some of her lectures and listen to them again while I’m studying.

Actually where I live at retail makes more than hospital, but every hospital is different. I believe Walmart pharmacy technicians get paid more in the retail world.

@@ItsDricaaa Self medication is common here, maximum pharmacies are running without presence of pharmacist. It is quite easy to get a pharmacy licence here, there is big market of medicine but rules are not followed by the concerning authorities and pharmacies,, you can easily purchase any priscription drug over the counter without priscription,, here I am seeing drug resistance is increasing due to uncontrolled and unnecessary use of medicines by people' s here.

@@ItsDricaaa Hmm yes if you refuse to give such type of prescription medicines the customers go to another shop where the persion is waiting to sell the medicines without priscription. It's a big country with overloaded population and basic facility of doctors and hospital is insufficient so it's common here to take medicine from medical shops. Depends on where you live because every state minimum wage is different and the cost of living. I live in South Carolina our minimum wage is $7.25 retail pharmacy technicians make around $13 and retail certified technicians make $16. Hospitals range from $17 and up to $20 and hour

Hey hey, it really depends on where you live because every state pay start is different. But my experience yes! We have some technicians that are not certified but make the same amount as someone that is (working hospital)

Plus i'm a slow learner, it will probably take me years to pass or get use in this field. Is there any specific time to get certified? Like do they give you time to pass the PTCB and if you keep failing, they'll fire you??

Hey no worries, so I went through a tech program and I had a two weeks to take my exam. I failed my first time but the second time around I studied at my own paste and took the exam over again! Being bad at math won’t disqualify you. And no rush to take the exam, take it when you’re ready and confident 💛 I wouldn’t worry about that at all you got this don’t let anything hold you back😊

How long does it take to become hospital tech after getting certified?

Hey hey, there’s not a time frame after being certified you just have to apply. Now if they require you to be a certified pharmacy technician, once you pass your exam and get your official results there is some documents you and your pharmacist have to sign ( there’s a number of worked hour you have to have worked to qualify certification license). Once that’s done and mailed off PTCB will mail your new license. Let me know if that makes sense 😊

I work in a hospital pharmacy. One thing that I wasn't prepared for is seeing so many sick patients in the hospital everyday. Especially during covid. Filling pyxis, delivering iv meds and narcotics means going all over the hospital all day and seeing things you don't necessarily want to see. I love my job but that is part of it that no one prepared me for.

Hey hey, I think you meant pharmacy assistant vs pharmacy technician. If not in order to become a pharmacist first you need two years of prerequisites and 4 years pharmacy school whereas pharmacy technicians depending on your state requirements only need a license or certification. Pharmacy tech assistant for my understanding is an entry level position; a pharmacy tech cashier would be a great example. Whereas a Pharmacy technician is more advanced some states require you to be certified and/or have some type of training program. Your daily task consist of labeling medication, reviewing prescriptions, ordering, may prepare intravenous medication depending on what job you work at and a lot more :D

Hey hey, so the Pyxis is a automated medication dispensing system. It safely dispenses medication for nurses to give to patients. Pharmacy Technicians refills them daily! 😀

😭😭ooh no definitely not painkillers!! Everything is counted for and some are logged also I’m pretty sure there’s a camera lol trust and believe you won’t get away with it. I’ve heard so many stories of pharmacist and technicians going to jail 😬

@@ItsDricaaa that’s unfortunate. It would be courteous of them to give u some benefits of u know what I mean. I mean a couple of free Vicodin per week ain’t gonna hurt their pockets. Maybe a 50 percent employee discount on Valium without a prescription would get ppl to stay for years😂. I like the uniforms you all wear. Do u guys get a discount on drug store products? Like electronics and tampons? What are some benefits of being one? I also hate math. Can’t do that stuff. U folks do math there? Ima have to look somewhere else if u guys do any complicated calculation stuff😣

😀😂 so working at the hospital we don’t get any discounts for medications other than your insurance. Working retail (Walmart) they have a $4 prescription list lol also you get a discount card you can use. We do conversions basically finding out how many mls a IV bag will need! Don’t worry you got this 😀

You will not only get fired, but lose your license and certificate for doing that. Diversion of controlled substances is one of the reasons techs have to pass a background check with the state and FBI before becoming a tech and also before being hired as a tech anywhere.
