Brazil and Lebanon have a very strong connection. Thousands of Lebanese Christian citizens immigrated to Brazil with Turkish Ottoman passports, which caused them to be known as "Turcos" by the locals, much to their chagrin. Today, Lebanese-Mediterranean food is well known in Brazil, with fast food chains selling fried kibbeh and sfihas. And about 7 million Brazilians are of Lebanese descent nowadays

yeah, same happened at the caribbean coast of Colombia - a lot of immigrants from Lebanon and Palestine entered the country the same way, and are called "Turcos" too. In cities like Barranquilla (the biggest city in the aforementioned region) Lebanese food is really popular and practically a local staple along with the more traditional caribbean food... I must say that it is closely related to the fact that those families and their descendants became the most prominent and powerful families in the city from an economic and political perspective. The rest of the country wasn't as near as influenced by them as the caribbean coast though

I have now been to Lebanon twice, just returned last week. It is one of my favorite places on earth for all the reasons you listed in the video, but there is something intangible about the nation that grabs me. Also, the people are simply amazing. I encourage everyone to visit. It is safe for tourists and, as a Westerner, will challenge your perceptions in the best possible way.

Visiting lebonon is fun but living here sucks. The money is worthless and gas and other prices are so high. What was 1,000 dollars 2 years ago is not only worth $45 and we only get 5 hours of power a day

Fun fact: in middle Tennessee, there's a state park named Cedars of Lebanon. The town it's part of is also called Lebanon, named after all the cedar trees in the area.

I have visited more than 78 countries so far and Lebanon is definitely in my TOP 3 !!!! Wonderful nature, very friendly people, rich history and culture, very yummy food (I mean really really yummy), snow, beaches, nighlife! Beirut has it all ❤

@@kareemel-khalil4400 Thanks for the kind words! I did my best, and tried to pronounce the names as well as I could. I'm not really used to the Lebanese accent though. :) I studied Arabic a long time ago, and it was mainly Palestinian/Jordanian.

I'm from Lebanon. Thank you for introducing my country in a very beautiful way. A word صحتين that you mentioned it has a reply which is : على قلبك. على قلبك means on your heart. So when someone says two health , the reply would be "on your heart." Which is wishing you the health back to your heart. 😊 I hope my country get over all the obstacles we are facing soon. Lebanese people deserve to live in peace and all the people around the world as well. 🙏

Served in Lebanon as a UN Peackeeper in 1990 (UNIFIL). Even though we were in the security zone in the south, we did get to really get to know the country and it's people. Amazing place, with amazing people, and amazing food. Hope to take my kids there one day.

I've been to Lebanon twice, back in 2014 and 2015, to visit relatives (both my maternal grandparents were from Ehden, in Mount Lebanon). I loved the place! It's a unique combination of ancient, modern, chaotic, sophisticated, Eastern, Western, exotic, etc. Lebanon is fascinating! I wish them peace and prosperity, from the bottom of my heart, they deserve it!

My husband is Lebanese and I’ve now visited Lebanon 3 times and will forever be my most favourite place to visit! The people are so warm, I’ve never felt unsafe, the food is beautiful, and it just has such good energy despite past tragedy

Great stuff. There are many people from Lebanon and of Lebanese descent here in Sydney, and in other cities and towns in Australia. They have brought their food, religion and cultural complexity to add to the rich tapestry that is contemporary Australia. Their hospitality is famous, and a visit to a Lebanese household is never without sweet treats and delicious teas while a night out is often ended with shawarma. In the 1980s, falafel and tabouleh rolls with fantastic, home made hummous and baba ghanouch were one my favourite meals! Cheap, delicious and much more available then than now, as new immigrants added diversified cuisines and older shop keepers moved on. Nice to have some of the history of their country to reflect on! Good video. I went to Lebanon for a study abroad in the summer of 2003. Every weekend, we visited different sites around the country, which isn't very big, but the terrain, climate, and culture varied widely. Although kibbeh is the national dish, another food is far more ubiquitous. I think I had fries with every single lunch and dinner in Lebanon, including shawarma from street vendors, fast food, tiny cafes, and fancy dining restaurants. The food was amazing, and the people were great. I need to visit again!

@@BazFitt a big part of the video is talking about religions so why not specify in a simple comment? So what is saying your religions a bad thing now? You can be proud of your religions and still accept and live with all others but the problem in Lebanon is that acceptance is rare between religions... Take North macedonia as an exemple a country with 50/50 population between Muslims and Christians noone would care about the other person religion not even in a relationship between two people.. But here lots of relationships are broken because of religions.. And I was born as a Christian Maronite and I am proud of it but I am more towards atheist now and I am proud of it as well 👌🏿

As a Lebanese person, i wanna thank you for this super well made video. It represents everything good and positive in our country. I'm even surprised about how much information you got right! Not many people know this much. It made me feel really proud to be Lebanese for the first time in almost 3 years because of what's been happening here, the corrupted politicians, and the bad government ..etc. Lebanon is an amazing country, and i hope we can get through these hard times asap, because it's a shame that all the youth and people my age are leaving the country for better job opportunities, for better education environment, and to be able to get more money to feed their families. I'm really sad that soon enough i will also leave the country, and leave my family behind, it's heartbreaking, but it's what i have to do for a better lifestyle. I hope the corruption ends very soon. I am from South America, now living for 40 years in Toronto, Canada. Part of my roots are Lebanese, since my grandfather (from my dad’s side) was Llibanese and emigrate to Uruguay when he was a teenager. I am proud of my Lebanese blood and I would like to have the chance some day to visit Lebanon. That’s one of my goals. As a lebanese citizen, it pains me that such a uniquely diverse and beautiful country that was once considered dubai-level is in the hands of incompetent people and has fallen to ashes. Most young adults/college students such as myself are desperately trying to immigrate, i couldn't make it myself seen as my financial situation does not allow me to do so. Our economy is at rock bottom and we struggle to make ends meet. I hope my homeland can have its former glory restored. Thanks for sharing information about lebanon to the world!

I hope things get better in the future. In the mean time, my suggestion is to make use of the internet for greater economic opportunities. If you have any skill you can perform as a freelancer (coding, designing images, translating, etc.) you can provide services to people in stronger economies and make use of that arbitrage opportunity. It might be peanuts for them, but significant money for you. And if you can create something digital that you sell, or create something that attracts an audience, you can make money that way too. It’s not easy, of course, but it’s very possible to learn it and do well at it.

It's impossible they are the only people with Phoenician heritage as the Phoenicians also conquered Tunisia and Sicily and Malta, and their empire wasn't modern day Lebanon but more like the coast of the levantine sea, including coastal Syria and Hatay and Cilicia but not including Baalbek

Ey, I'm from Lebanon. I like that what you state in the video are completely accurate, and depict the beauty and varying climates/geography about the country. Yes the current situation is taking its toll on the country and its people, but regardless of what the country is going through, it will always have my heart and leave memories that will never be forgotten.

As a lebanese It was nice to see and watch and hear all the good and positive things we have in our beautiful country specially in it's darkest times now with all the negativity we are surrounded in. This video just reminded me of why i love where I'm from it actually made my night. Thank you so much for this great video about my country. It’s so refreshing to watch a positive view about Lebanon especially now with all the horrible economic tragedies that the people are going through. We need more tourism to help the locals and your video encouraged that. The only other thing I would add is that Lebanon in general and Beirut in particular has been the hub for education in the Middle East through the American University of Beirut (AUB), and the many Law schools, and the Arabic University. Thank you Paul, good job condensing all of those informations. I barely knew the particularities of this country and I've learnt a lot from this video. As a French, I knew about the 20th century history and its actual part of the Francophonie but other than that I didn't even knew that tabbouleh (which is a popular summer meal here) was from this culture instead of Maghrebi origins.

I grew up in south west Sydney and didn’t notice how familiar a part Lebanese play in its makeup until I boarded a flight to Beirut. It could have been a flight home! Great city and a great video. South west Sydney is shawarma!

I'm Lebanese, and as far as i can tell this video is so informative and covers stuff that no other channel did . I watched the geography now video about Lebanon and it was very good but lacks detailed explanation imo. Well done mate keep it up . Lebanon is a small country but big in our hearts

Loved the fact that you have mentioned lebanon in such positivity, and open heart!! However, i would like to disagree with some of the comments about how accurate your information is, some of it is truly correct, but we also have spring, we have one of the best nightlife, we have, and may i emphasize on this information, "18" different religions!!! Thanks! About the seasons, I understand. When I said two seasons I was giving the usual description of the Mediterranean climate (which applies to the coast and low lying areas much more than the mountains). Of course there isn’t an instant change between winter and summer, so there are transitional periods that you could call Spring/Autumn. But a Mediterranean climate is generally described as having two distinct seasons. About nightlife, I’ve heard about it, but nightlife isn’t for me anymore. :)

Our “””leaders””””” are absolute shitheads who think they can go against USA and are all politically+religiously driven. + they aren’t even Lebanese in the first place. Life here sucks donkey balls :) all bcz our donkey leaders”” have led us to the very bottom and pits of hell. Maybe if new people take over it will fix our shitty country but i HIGHLY doubt it. The majority here, which was Christian primarily, have immigrated. I cannot wait to leave too! This is not a country, this is a failed miserable and hopeless place:)

As a correction Lili. What you said is true but : there aren't 18 different religions rather there are 18 different sects of religion. The main religions are Christianity, Islam, and druze, but within those the are different sects especially Christianity that adds up to 18.

The people are very rude and bad tempered with no manners. Country has lots of pollution, very poor infrastructure, no electricity, no water, lots of theft, kidnappings. A any moment a bomb will go off. It has been this way for the past 50 years. Lebanon is no place for tourism. Tourists are always ripped off. Not a safe country at all.

This is my country of origin. Lebanon used to be so beautiful before the civil war turned it into a mess; though the reconstruction back in the 90s' and early 2000's brought back the glamour to a certain extent before things went downhill again over the past couple of years. While everyone thinks that sectarianism is Lebanon's worst issue, the real evil in the country is its blind political allegiances, this is what brought the country down on its knees recently. The same politicians who led the civil war (literally the warlords) are in control of the country due to their blind following. Lebanese don't care as much about religion as they do towards their political allegiances! My father's family is a prime example; the family is literally split between the different political parties to the extent of animosity between its members where siblings cut their ties and don't speak to one another! I have hopes that these blind political allegiances are now falling apart because the new rising Lebanese generation felt the impact of these allegiances on the economy and their wellbeing. The irony is that these corrupt politicians are literally democratically elected! In fact, Lebanon is the only country in the Middle East (other than Israel of course) that has an actual democracy; however, the corruption and aforementioned allegiances ruin the element of democracy so it's almost unfelt... Shame! I yearn for the day I can take my girlfriend to the country and show her its real beauty, my heart goes to all my fellow countrymen and countrywomen who are enduring the dreadful living conditions the broken economy and corrupt politicians have enforced on people.

@Az Ure There are some elements of truth in some of your comments; however, I fundamentally disagree. Having different sects is a source of pride and diversity but when it turns into "sectarianism" it becomes hideous and poisonous! It is a disease, and I've seen it split friends, neighbors, and even brothers in arms when I was performing my military service. It made me sick to my stomach! While I agree that Lebanon's civil war was a playground for different external parties with different agendas, it was only the Lebanese people's lack of judgement and erroneous ways that led to the catastrophe! Until we admit our failures and learn from them, there is no hope for the country to recover. It is so easy to blame the invaders and overlook what the citizens did to their own country and how different sects aligned themselves with different invaders. Let's not forget that at all, otherwise, all the bloodshed and the lessons are gone in vain...

The information you share is very interesting and accurate, just one small correction: Almost the whole Lebanese shoreline from the lower part of Beirut all the way South is sandy, and the other half from Beirut to the North is rocky, so it is half-half.

As a lebanese, despite the country being so undevelopped, (we barely have electricity for half a day on average) it has potential due to its’ placement on the globe, the wether, the mountains, the sea, the fact that its tight next to africa, europe and asia. I just hope everything goes back to normal soon. (If you plan on traveling to lebanon, please wait till the situation gets better, you won’t regret it!
