LectroFan Micro 2 Review: White Noise On The Go

I play the sounds and explain the features of the LectroFan Micro 2 white noise machine in this review. It might be a good choice if you want a portable white noise machine when you're away from home. The internal battery, Bluetooth speaker feature, and reasonable price are also points I liked about it. Just be aware that the tiny buttons are quite fiddly.

Thank you. I bought the MIFA after I saw your very helpful video and am SO happy with it. The sounds are crisp and a joy. Now looking for a travel machine. I find the rain and thunder sounds a great inclusion but having difficulty finding a travel option that includes this. Any pointers? Your videos are so clear and helpful. I am grateful for them

Thanks for your kind words Mary, I'm really pleased that the videos have been helpful. Even more so that you're happy with the device you bought based on my video - that's always encouraging! To be honest, the best travel device is a smartphone and an App, as you likely already have a phone anyway. As for actual white noise machines, the Micro 2 doesn't have rain or thunder, but does allow you to play sounds via Bluetooth. But you'd need a phone to do that, which leads me back to my first comment about just using your phone! An alternative would be the Dreamegg 3. It's quite small too, and has rain.

You're very welcome! I liked the first edition too, but definitely prefer the second as there are separate buttons for the volume controls and sound choice now, which just makes life easier when changing settings.

Hi! Thank you so much for your review, great video!! I have a question, maybe I missed it but how long does the noise plays unplugged? As long as the battery runs? Do you think it can last a regular 8h sleep? Sometimes while traveling it’s hard to keep gadgets plugged all night :(

Hi Gabriela, thanks and you're welcome! There is no auto-off feature, so yes it will run as long as the battery goes for. In my experience, it does keep going for 8 hours.

Thanks for the review. Have you tried their LectroSound model, the one that has the dial? (I really like their Classic and Evo. The LectroSound is less expensive and on sale at Amazon, so I'm thinking of adding that one to my sound machine collection.)

Hi Ethan, Very informative review. I am interested in purchasing this white noise generator/speaker as a result of your review. But I do have one question as I currently have a rechargeable bluetooth speaker (only) which is otherwise pretty good but makes a horrendously loud and obnoxious tone just before the battery dies. Does this device make any sort of warning noise prior to the battery quitting, and if so, is there some way to disable that feature? Thank you for the time and effort put into reviewing the products and the excellent videos. Geoff

Hi Geoffrey, you're welcome and thanks for taking the time to write some positive words - I really appreciate that! If it does make a warning tone, I've never noticed it. So either I've just not paid enough attention or it's not particularly obnoxious. But after reading your comment, I just turned mine on with max volume and will listen out to see if it does. I'll report back when the battery dies (which might take a while...)

Hey Ethan thanks for the great videos. This looks like one of them, but what are a few battery powered white noise machines with the longest lasting battery? Having trouble finding this.

Hi Paul, you're welcome - glad to hear you liked them! To be honest, I haven't timed them side by side on similar volume and sound settings to see which would last the longest. That would be interesting to do! There aren't many that have a decent internal battery, so the choice isn't very wide anyway - especially since the Avantek has been discontinued. So really, I'd recommend either the LectroFan Micro 2 or Evo or the Dreamegg. I've found the Micro lasts a pretty long time, but haven't compared them side by side.

...And also one other question.I noticed you also had a review on the Marpac Rohm.The Rohm and the Micro LectroFan are both devices for portability,at exactly the same price.Which one would you consider the best?

Hi John. Yes you can play it while it's plugged in if you prefer. Personally, I prefer the Micro 2 because it has more options and you can use it as a Bluetooth speaker.

Sorry to hear that - it must be very annoying! I still have both my Lectrofan 1 and 2, and they are fine even after all this time, so it's possible you have been very unlucky (or I've been lucky...) Did you manage to get a refund for both of them?

Nope. The new USB C model is trash. They just stop charging. I have three different lectrofans and this one took a single charge before refusing to charge again. There's plenty of one stars for the issue too.

I’m watching this review because my original just stopped charging unless I angled the charger at just the right direction …which isn’t possible unless I’m holding it. I’ve had it for several years now so the battery life would run out quickly so I have to keep it plugged in at all times while using it. So clearly not being able to charge unless I’m positioning the cord just right while holding it, doesn’t really work for me lol. I’m really hoping that if I’m just a bit more careful with plugging the charging cord in and out, it will last a lot longer, because I’ve honestly started to depend on this little guy to sleep every night!

Noted, thanks Cheryl. You're not the first person to mention this issue, and I'm trying to keep it in mind for future reviews. It's hard making myself be silent when I'm filming, but a skill worth working on!
