The Lectrofan is great to block out noise that keeps you from falling asleep! Here's my review of this great little electronic device that uses fan sounds and white noise to help you get to sleep. This is the best sound blocker that I have ever used!

I have been using this unit for 2 years and it is outstanding!! I travel and have never slept well in hotels. I'm very noise sensitive and this unit not only blocks out noises (even if I'm close to an airport!) it gives me fan/white noise choices that feel comforting. I am so grateful I found this.

Isn't it just a mental thing say someone is revjng this loud annoying compressor across the street or near by and you decide to use a white noise machine just as loud but you don't wanna hear other peoples things just yours.

Good point about what it cannot block. Footsteps in any direction travel well through the floors, walls, ceilings, etc. When your apartment is too close to the elevator, vibrations from the elevator shaft can easily travel into your apartment and the vibrations can be felt in your bed. I had to sleep with Optime Peltor earmuffs for years (really bad apartment), and they block most of the sound that your ears might hear. But they cannot stop shock waves or vibrations. And another thing you made me think of... I do like some of the real sleep sound recordings that you can find on youtube. This machine would take care of those gaps, for example, in a thunderstorm, when the sound abates for a bit. Nice review. Thanks!

Great video, thank you! You went over this really well. So far this one sounds the best. I’m not into the rain etc noises. And needless to say, it’s a lot easier than lugging around that fan that I’ve been using for a few years now. As well as space to put it. I started doing this during the summer because of the heat. But I really missed it when it was turned off. It was way too quiet.

I have tinnitus and get migraines so I keep my bedroom blacked out and keep a fan running all night all year long for white noise. Light isn't good for sleeping anyway. I've read many reports about NOT having clocks that are LED lite because of disturbing sleep. I do keep a very small night light on but I also keep it behind a chair so I don't actually see the light itself. Just enough light incase I need to get up at night without turning on a table lamp.

Juanita Sullivan I have tinnitus (I think, never been to a doctor) my ears ring like I just left an ac/dc concert all the time. I guess I shouldn't have cut my mufflers off and drove with my windows open when I was young and dumb. I haven't had a ceiling fan for years but it ran constantly when I did. I think I might get one of these things
@juanitasullivan3372

Julio, The reason I have the fan, (small table fan)is because of my tinnitus. I have that horrible constant ringing and can't sleep without the white noise to drown out the ringing. Where I rent I haven't been able to put in an air conditioner in the summer due to wrong style of windows. Portable a/c's too expensive. Before I moved back to Nova Scotia I lived in southern US states where it was always hot so I ran a/c's all year long. Never needed a/c here. Now with the climate change, a/c is needed. Landlord just had the bedroom window switched out and a/c will go in. But for now I use the fan. I have a backup fan for when the current one dies. LOL. That I will use in the winter.

thanks for your review/demo. I did try the dohm and found it too loud and was nto very adjustable. I am wanting to block out outside noise from traffic and have a fan going, but its at that point of the year that a fan gets too cold ! now I can hear what this sounds like and I am definitely going to get one..... I am also very sound sensitive and would probably have it going all the time.

(guest) Lisa, I too am used to a fan going to mask outside noises, such that I don't like to sleep without it now! If the fan is blowing cold air, get a piece of net curtain , and drape it loosely over the fan, thus slowing the air flow, but you still have the sound. ☺

I so glad that I order my, I'm very sensitive to noises and sometimes can sleep well, hope this white noise machine help me, when it is hot I turn my fan on is the only thing it help me to sleep and it blocks noise, but unfortunately in winter I couldn't, so it is when the noises are more comun, beside that I love the idea that it not have lights, since I not like any ligths at night that distracted me very much, I hate any kind the ligths in my room through the night, and this machine does not have, how wonderful.

thanks for the review! I'm also highly noise sensitive, and unfortunately also live in a corner house, where i get the noise from 2 streets, plus very noisy next door neighbours. I normally sleep with 2 fan heaters on (on cold - just for the noise, not for heating), but that doesn't always drown out really loud noises from out side. Another problem is, that I can't concentrate or even funtion, like doing normal houswork, or eating a meal, while outside my closed window children shout and scream for hours on end, grown ups make their phone calls (often on loudspeaker). rubbish collection lorries take half an hour banging arround, or supermarket delivery lorries bang their car doors and merchandise arround on the road, (my windows are always closed when those things happen, plus I have 3 fan heaters making a white noise, but it doesn't help), while my next door neighbour has music blaring, or his children or the adults are shouting or screaming through the walls . Would this noise machine really be able to drown out those loud noises?
@LowerMyPressure
@LowerMyPressure 4 жыл бұрын
Since you are already using fans to mask the noise and it isn't working well for you I doubt the Lectrofan would be any better for you. Unfortunately some of us are hypersensitive to noise. You might want to try some "noise cancelling" headphones" along with your favorite music to see if that helps.
@unavitadellamusica
@unavitadellamusica 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your reply! I'm generally speaking a highly sensitive person, not only to noise. I'm sensitive to heat, touch and some other things, too. Headphones, any kind, I can't have too long on my ears, because my ears get hot from it. Therefore - apart from their really high price for the good ones - I wouldn't be able to wear them all day, or even for few hours in a row, and what would I do, when I want to make phone calls? I would have to take them off anyway. Then I couldn't make the call, because of all the noise again. That's why I wanted a good device like a noise machine, that does all those things, that really good noise cancelling headphones do. Now I thought, that this device you reviewed here would fit the bill, but if you think it doesn't do more, than normal fan noises, I'm rather disappointed, and still looking for something really effective. In case you happen to find something for me, maybe you could let me know? Of course, I'm also looking arround elsewhere myself, but so far unsuccessfully.

I purchased this fan for sound masking in a unit block, its almost a good product but most of the fan sounds have an annoying 'hum' underneath the fan noise at different tones, not sure if they're trying to replicate an electric noise but it really played on my mind mentally, I ended up sending it back. it was handy just being able to switch it on/off though. What I find better is using a bluetooth speaker or something like JBL Link Music and selecting one of the many youtube fan sounds available, they run for 10-hours+, you can select so many samples or apps from the Google Play Store.

I'm very sensitive to noise and live in an apartment with thin walls. How much will the Lectrofan reduce noise from neighbors playing loud music and television, and outside noise? I have to keep a fan on 24/7 even in winter, plus earplugs at night and noise-blocking headphones during the day at home, and some noise still gets through when they really crank up their music, or if someone is using a leaf/snow blower
@LowerMyPressure

It does a good job with the music and television. A leaf or snow blower is really loud and it's going to make a dent but it won't totally block it out.

Looks like this product will help. I need setup advice though. My problem is that my downstairs neighbor in apts. bldg watches tv all night into morning in his bedroom under mine and sound is low, but for some reason in my bed I hear the low sound and it wakes me up, and my ceiling fan doesn't hide the noise. 1. How would I place the LectroFan (under my headboard area of my bed, or on my bedside table, or other choices?) 2. Would I use White noise or fan, I'm not educated on the effects of fan noise to verious sounds, Vs. white noise effects on various sounds, if you have a tip chart on this please let me know.
@LowerMyPressure
@LowerMyPressure 9 жыл бұрын
+Paco Hannigan I place mine on my headboard which is slightly elevated above my head. I think it may also work well on a bedside table. I think which noise you use really depends on personal choice. I happen to like the very first white noise sound but others prefer the fan noises. It might take a bit of experimentation to find the perfect combination - good luck!

I love a fan vs a device with a speaker because I can hear that it comes from a speaker, I guess it’s the pitch. Do you hear that with this machine?
@LowerMyPressure
@LowerMyPressure 5 жыл бұрын
The speaker faces upward which causes the sound to bounce off of the ceiling, etc. It does a good job of fooling the brain into thinking it's a real fan. That being said, nothing is going to replace the sound of a real fan.

It probably won't have your exact sound of a particular AC unit. Door slamming is a percussive sound that is mostly transferred through structural elements as opposed to floating sound like music and conversations. LowerMyPressure You said the unit speaker is loud but do you think it's loud enough to fill a reg sized bedroom from across the room of does it have to be within a few feet away for best sound to be loud enough? Thank you so much for your post and answers, better than the feedback on amazon thanks :)
@LowerMyPressure

+The Dark Angel I personally place my unit closest to the sound I want to block out. I live in a condo and noise comes from a common wall that I share with my neighbors. They play their TV late at night and even though they do their best to keep the sound down, I still hear enough to keep me from falling asleep. I place the Lectrofan close to that common wall and turn it up just enough to block out the sound - this way I don't have to turn it up really loud.

LowerMyPressure so, as you said the speaker is good enough quality to be LOUD enough without sounding like it's vibrating, it can fill the room or that half by the source then???? Next week, first week I'm trying to get one from Amazon like this one. I hate the environmental sound units and the white noise as I just lay there thinking of what each sound reminds me of ie. a babbling brook and stream only reminds me of a public men's urinal :) :) and rain drops spattering on a window reminds me of bacon frying in a pan :) :) and white noise reminds me of the machine that my mum was on in ICU that's how my mind works :) :) THANKS

could this unit mask vibrations or low pitch sounds ?

Since vibrations are percussive as opposed to a "floating" sounds it probably wouldn't work. You can always get one on Amazon and return it if it doesn't work out but my guess is that it won't make much of a difference.

I live near two busy roads. Off and on again road workers and house renovation. I just wanna get away from pounding hammers and loud compressors. This tool helps me a lot. It's your own frequency that your brain has knowing you perfer and its not a labor worker machine. I recommend two of them if you live in an noisy neighborhood . i dont put it in a room where my dog is as she is only allowed downstairs yet since she is still technically an adolescent fully grown puppy(2 years old) i keep everything upstairs and doors closed and put it wherever the outdoor compressor problems would be.

I'd seriously advise people to read into the science behind white noise, drowning out isn't really isn't what's going on. If you have a constant ambient sound, you have a reduction in sensitivity to sound in general.

No the Lectro Fan is AC only. The same company makes "Sound+Sleep Mini" which is a sound machine that can use both AC and battery power. The only downside is that I don't believe it has more than one fan sound.

Use a USB battery power bank to power it. Uses only 0.2W and lasts for days. I used it during the three-day power outage in Texas. Life saver.

I have one of these and run it constantly when my upstairs neighbors are home. Disclaimer- My neighbors are awesome and very considerate people and aren't noisy per se. It's the crappy bldg I live in and it seems like there is 0 insulation. So we hear everything. We can hear them blow their noses! , open and close cabinets, flush the toilet , hear the dishes clanging together as they wash them etc. It's not their fault. But anyway, this machine does mask some it it and can get loud but i still hear them so i also wear Hearos earplugs at the same time. Now my problem is hearing their old built in wall heater when they turn it on at 6 am. It makes this horrible humming sound. I moved the sound machine near the wall as close as i could get it but the plug wasn't long enough. It still woke me up even with ear plugs in. Am gonna have to get extension cord and then TAPE the machine to the wall. We can't move out . It's the cheapest apt we could find and took us a year to find it.

@LowerMyPressure
@LowerMyPressure 6 жыл бұрын
Actually it's weird and you wouldn't think it works but it does. The human mind is very good at playing tricks. When we hear conversations or other noises that are inconsistent, we strain to hear what is happening because we are curious by nature. When the sound is blocked out, we can relax and not have to waste the "bandwidth" trying to figure out what these distracting sounds are. At least, that's my take on it.

@LowerMyPressure
@LowerMyPressure 7 жыл бұрын
Yes it does muffle snoring to a certain degree. I had a snoring roommate in the next room and I positioned the Lectrofan on my headboard so that it was between the snoring sound and my head. Sometimes I had to turn it up pretty loud to drown out the sound but it did help. If the snoring person is in the same room, it's not going to work. Snoring is the worst - I'm glad he finally moved out! :-)

Does this help drown out sound in an office so conversations can't be heard outside of the office being used 🤔
@LowerMyPressure

Yes but it can't be placed in the office where the conversation is taking place. Take for instance a doctor that has an exam room next to the waiting room. If a unit is placed in the waiting room, it works well. If it is placed in the exam room, it doesn't work as well. Hope this helps.

@LowerMyPressure
@LowerMyPressure 5 жыл бұрын
It might help just a little. You would basically swap an internal noise for an external noise. Your brain would concentrate on the louder external noise so, it could help. I have a slight case of tinnitus but I'm lucky in that it doesn't affect my sleep. Best of luck!
