Lecture 4 - Impedance Matching Networks

In this lecture, we begin to examine impedance transformations using series-to-parallel impedance conversions in two-element LC "L-match" circuits. We examine upward and downward impedance transformations and the limitations of a 2-element match.

what would be the source and load in the case of an antenna and an sdr for recieving purposes? is the antenna the source and the sdr the load?

Hi Professor Walling, Why does one need to convert between series matching networks and parallel matching networks? What are some examples that require this transformation?

Is it not necessary to match the input as well ? Why are only matching the output of the 2 element match to rl? Or is it inherently matched to the input when we match for load ?

The match is bilateral, so if you complete it in one direction, it works in the other direction as well. But to verify, if I start at the source, you could start at the load and make the calculations in the opposite direction and you should get the same component values.

Hi, these notes are mainly my own, but I like Tom Lee's book as a reference. I also think the Pozar text is very good.

(4.89*2)/5ghz = 1.956 pH. The value in lecture is wrong. It's also calculated wrong in 9:10, I think.

Hello professor, I'm bad at math and algebra, was just wondering how the equation at 3:40 became that way after parallel? If you could point me to other sources that may help clarify why it became so, I would be grateful. Thanks in advance.
