That was awesome. As an electrical engineering major I am super happy that you did your math on the LED. I will check out the rest of your videos and I might do this for my Chaos marines that I am going to be putting together.

Awh man, I remember doing something like this almost 15 years ago. I didn't have a hand drill, so I took a big drill from am AC powered drill and tried to drill through solid tin by hand. I had blisters on my blisters when I was done, but for a 15 year old I was super happy with what I had accomplished with my Black Coach.

For years I've wanted to make Thousand Sons Chaos Marines that have eerie blue light shining out of the chest armor neck area to bottom-light the head (in the lore, TS are basically possessed armor suits). You are definitely giving me some ideas!

Hey Ocho, I just wanted to let you know that I'm an electrical engineering student and I recently got into Warhammer 40k. Adeptus Mechanicus was an obvious fit for me, since it lets me combine my passion for electronics and circuits with dope religious themes. I immediately decided I was going to kit out my models with real circuits, and as many cool circuit elements as I could. Your channel is actively serving as an inspiration for some of the technical details that would've taken me ages to figure out. Most of my minis will follow a lot of your examples, with buttons and batteries and whatnot. But I think I'm going to try to have Cawl plug into the wall! I want to incorporate all of his wires as... well actual wires! It reduces the need to hide circuits, and I even had an idea to actually show the full wave rectifier and capacitor on his back, as they'll fit right into his aesthetic. If you think there's anything I should know before I start that might cause trouble please do let me know! Thanks for the awesome ideas, and I can't wait to show you the results!

Had an idea to do this. Was thinking of using fiber optic cables. I might try something like this instead.
@OchoMiniatures
@OchoMiniatures 2 жыл бұрын
So the problems with fiber optic cables is there is a limit to how much you can bend them, they are pretty sensitive to chemicals (don’t mix well with super glue or plastic glue). And they typically only have a 60 degree viewing angle. On top of that you need a light source to make em work I have found for this it’s just easier to run up an LED. But that’s not to say fibber optics don’t have a place

I'll be honest. I'd have just made a clear resin recast of the head to use, because I KNOW I'd have botched the drill job. Good job.
@OchoMiniatures
@OchoMiniatures 2 жыл бұрын
So two things, blocking the light from everything but the eyes in a fully cast clear head is a bit difficult….doable….just not the way I went. Second it’s really amazing how a stereo microscope changes your perception, you can do way more detailed work than you think you can!
@Zacknafin
@Zacknafin 2 жыл бұрын
any reason for not using something to fill the eye holes before poring the resin? It looks like poster tack would help hold back the volume. Love the idea and going to have to try this. Thank you for the excellent idea.
@OchoMiniatures
@OchoMiniatures 2 жыл бұрын
Ya poster tack may work or clay I think blue stuff from green stuff world may be best as it won’t stick and you could even use it to mold the eye shape back in but I didn’t worry too much about over spill because the epoxy is so thick good question though!
@massap6
@massap6 2 жыл бұрын
Could you use blue stuff to mold the head. Then drill out the eyes, put the back to the mold and fill the head cavity.
@OchoMiniatures
@OchoMiniatures 2 жыл бұрын
absolutely! you may get a tiny bit of overspill from the head not setting back in perfectly but this works well

Great work. Out of curiosity how long does a battery last you?
@OchoMiniatures
@OchoMiniatures 2 жыл бұрын
Great question! The mah of the battery is about 225 with a draw of about 10 ma so math wise it should last around 22 hours(you can go even longer with a duller LED). I have left one on overnight with no issues and have played a few games with one of them and haven’t changed the battery yet!
2 жыл бұрын
What kind of battery did you used? Did you out a coin cell holder on the base? Or connected to the battery directly?

Really glad I saw this one, great tutorial. Now maybe i'm dumb but in most instances you shouldn't need the dual resistors if you have a smaller capacity one right? I'm terrible about led wiring and just stepping into it for my bases and dioramas. Sick work though!
@OchoMiniatures
@OchoMiniatures 2 жыл бұрын
So technically you shouldn’t need a resistor because of the internal resistance of the battery but I always put on on to be safe. It’s not like I can go in and change the LED. The reason I have 2 is so when I press the button the LED gets brighter. I do have an led basics you may want to watch as well as basic soldering
