Why on earth would anyone put a thumbs down? This is the most helpful of all the videos I have seen to troubleshoot a TV. First of all, you get straight to the point and speak loud and clear. The recording is good for both image and audio quality and it is not 30 minutes long. Most of all it is very informative and to use a flashlight to save time and tell if you have a picture is brilliant. Thank you for putting up this video. I feel confident I will be able to troubleshoot my not-so-old 65 inch RCA cheapo model that still should have life in it. I watched the picture fade out before my eyes and the blue light tells me it's on still. I first assumed I blew a capacitor or powerboard and I have not even opened it up yet but I am betting the flashlight trick will reveal what I now suspect. I didn't have an audio source coming out the tv at all because I am using it for my computer and the computer is running the audio through my studio moniters. I never used the TV's speakers but it would have told me the signal was still getting through.

Even if I got this lesson 8 yrs late , but its teaching power is as strong as 8yrs fwrd . many many thanks ! bro

Black screen problem started months ago. After much off/on and waiting time, some success with restoring screen bright. But, now this off/on trial stuff no longer successful. So, I guesed something was overheating in there somewhere, so I located a small fan to cool the right back side of the set. Lo and behold, after a short time, the screen came on and stayed on. This worked continuously 80% of the time, but never failed to start if you had patience. Also, once on and left on overnight, etc., screen brightness time improved, sometimes even after the fan was off! This might be useful for someone, but sometimes a new set looked very tempting!!

Thanks for this I have a Panasonic that had no picture so I just disconnected the long lead from the power board to the logic board (as your video) then re connected it and the TV is now working thanks!

Very informative thank you. I think my backlight inverter board is bad, but I didnt see you say anything about sound so Ill ask. On mine, the tv turns on and a buzzing comes out of the speakers. Has done this for years and after it warms up, you shut it off and turn it back on and all is good. Now you turn it on, buzzing still there, but picture goes black at 20 seconds every time. Weird thing is when the picture goes black, the buzzing stops. So I was assuming a transformer on the inverter board. See nothing with flashlight when black. Man are those boards hard to find in stock. Thanks again and great video!

Okay, Tampa Tec... I am new to TV repair and appreciate so many of your videos (some I have watched 5 or 6 times). You do more than just talk, you show where, when, how, why. Thanks to you I have replaced my own powerboard and the LEDs in my Sharp Roku LC-50LB481U. This all got started from a black screen issue. (Could see with a flashlight) So, my backlights are working now, but when I turn on the tv there is just a blue screen that does grow darker until it appears black again. There is no Sharp icon on the screen when powering up. The flashlight doesn't work in this case. I don't want to end up replacing every part on a poorly designed tv. With what I have stated, do you have any thoughts as to what my issue is now? My gut tells me since you could see with a flashlight before the LED replacement that maybe I didn't do something right when putting it all back together.

I have a VIZIO E480-B2 with no picture and no sound. The power light flashes and then goes solid. I checked voltages on the board as suggested and I think the power board (DPS-167DP) is good. The caps all look good, as well. I did the flashlight test, but couldn't see anything on the screen. Would this indicate the t-con board is bad or is there something I should look at? My Samsung LCD Tv had the sound but no picture issue. All I did was pull the back cover off, and blow all the dust off of everything, and now its working great. lol.

Pop quiz!! I have a Sony Bravia XBR55X850C that turns on long enough for the android logo to appear then shuts off. This is followed by six flashes from a red led at the bottom of the center of the tv. From what over read, this could be power supply, which it’s not as I’ve replaced it and it yielded no change in the symptoms, the backlight then selves, bad inverter for the backlights or a bad main logic board. I don’t think the logic board is bad but haven’t check it’s voltage yet. My question is where would the backlight inverter be on this tv? It’s not out in the open behind the back panel of the tv like the main logic board is and the power supply and the what looks to be the T-Con board. Any help would be greatly appreciated, your videos are great! I’ve watched them to fix many TVs for friends and family. Also, have you any experience with this tv and this problem specifically? It seems to be a very common problem with this model tv and it’s just under 2 years old. $2000 for nothing!! Thanks in advanced for any help!

Getting 85VDC on both of the + pins at the LED connector. I have replaced the PWR Supply board already. Same results Back light and LG logo come on for a 1/4 second. I have sound. Flashlight confirms image. TV is an LG 55LN5710. Thoughts

My Rouku TCL 49S403 has backlight but no image. Did the reset thing with the remote control and it did not work. But this TV has no T-con board. Is the T-con circuit built into the main logic board or the narrow boards that feed the screen? Anyway, I’d like to know the test points to test at to let me know whether to replace that main logic board. I assume the narrow boards that feed the screen cannot be replaced.

I have an Insignia LCD Fire Tv and sometimes the screen works and sometime it doesn't, what could that mean. I also noticed the powerboard making a low clicking noise. Lastly, I don't see a T-con board lol

Helpful video thanks. April2017 I repaired a Techwood 55AO2SB 55"TV . Its remote led flashed, the remote was transmitting, but no picture. Not sure if sound was working as did not test that. Not a backlight led problem as could not see the MENU in dark room w flashlight shining on the screen. I think it was a 2015 model TV. Root case was one corner of the power supply board was broken / cracked. This where one of the screws attaches that PSU board to the TV chassis. This caused one important thin electrical track to be severed. I repaired with superglue and track repair wire ... green thin wire. I also repaired the earth contact using some wire and solder , this at same place as it was a poor earth due to the damage. TV worked correctly thereafter. Pcb design is poor/cheap and obviously the pcb material also poor quality for this to happen. TV picture etc seems quite good.. I am an electronic R&D and design eng. Hope this helps someone else.

hi i have a 55" vizio led smart tv. the audio works just fine however the picture is super dark. if you put a flashlight up to the screen you can see there is picture. the brightness is all the way up and still cant see without flashlight. thoughts, ideas, or help would be greatly appreciated! the tv is only 2 years old i hate to throw it out. Hi, How does the procedure differ from e.g. fixing a common LCD TFT computer screen monitor ? 🤔 I have a Philips Brilliance 220SW LCD monitor which has a backlight problem. It turns on for about 2 s, then shuts off. I can see the picture on the screen if I shine on the LCD screen with my pocket LED flashlight though. So when I connect the VGA cable to my laptop's VGA output the picture with backlight appears on the LCD monitor, but then the backlight shuts off. 😣 I replaced about 7 electrolytic capacitors, from those 7 four were surely dead as they were bulged. The rest 3 had half values. I checked the rest of the 5 electrolytic capacitors & all were good. 🙄 Ceramic capacitors near the CCFL connectors are looking good too. I get 5 V & 12 V on the cable connector too. What else should I check ? 🤔😕 Thanks in advance &... Best Regards,

hey have you ever fixed a Sceptre x322bv-hd mine has sound but no picture, did the light test saw picture opened up back and the only boards i saw was the main board in the middle of it and a small one at the bottom> about 1"x20" long is the backlight inverter or tcon board built in to the main power board in the middle

The remote was working also I got noticed in the dark panel the settings menu. I check my backlight LED strips because it is the second time that has problem, but all leds are working and light up.I replace the capacitors on the PSU and I check with my multi-meter the Volts it says around 160V but on the pcb writes down OUTPUT 13.2V /43V 500mA. Would you give me some suggestions to check?

I have a 50" inch philips with sound and barely you can see inside, probably led or power supply. The voltage going to the leds is 38v and after 20 sec drops down to 25v . Any idea If it is leds or power supply?

T Judice: Thank you for the extremely informative videos on TV repair. Specifically, issues with TVs having sound, but no picture. I have an RCA 55" LED TV LED55c55r120q with sound but no video. I can see the menu image using the flashlight technique, so it is some kind of backlight problem. Main power board shows 5V sb power, and 12V when powered on. The BL voltage on main power board connector coming back from logic board shows 5V. (NOT 3.2, is this a problem?). I unplugged the LED power cable from the main board to get the actual voltage reading at the board. Both LED+ pins are reading 223V(with connector going to LED strips unplugged). With LED wire connector plugged in, the voltage on the LED+ pins starts out high, and quickly dissipates down to 0. I purchased new power board, but same behavior. Can you direct me what to test from here?

TampaTec I have a question. What do you think about this.... My TV FIRST- started dimming on the left side. Then after a week or so I have the volume up listening to the news while I get ready for work walk into the living Room & here the screen's black and the sound is only on. I can turn it off wai,wai,p sometimes 1 second sometimes 5 seconds but it will either fix the left side dimming issue or the TOTAL Black Screen issue, temporarily. So I ask if you think its overheating? Please lmk!!

My Samsung UN50H5203AF has no backlight and when I measure the six wires (3 pairs) going to the panel all read around the 365 volt range. I would have thought some would be ground. I used the chassis as ground as well as a nearby capacitor.

I have a haier 48d3500 TV with backlight issues. I measured the voltage on the LED outputs and got 66 volts each and not the 130 or 100 as you mentioned in the video. I have sound and I have a picture that can be seen with a bright light against the screen. I don't have an LED tester so that's why I'm asking your opinion. Power Board or LED backlights?? thanks

I have an LG 55UM6910PUC it just shows a blue/Green screen. When it first happened there was audio and you could switch channels but no picture. Now there is no audio so I can't tell if the channels are changing with the Remote. When it first starts you hear the startup sound but the screen just goes to blue/green.

When I check the voltage on the 4 pins of the LED output connector as shown around 5:22 on your video, I get pin-1 = 0 volts, pin-2 = 65v, pin-3 = 2v and pin-4 = 65v. I don't get "0", 100v" or "120v" as you indicated as possibilities in the video - what might be wrong with this - the power board or the LED strips or something else?

Having a tcl 32" roku tv that was purchased open boxed from Walmart, was on its screensaver and the screen just went black there is sound backlights and the t con i believe is working cause i can't see any image with a flashlight and if the tv is reset there is a picture of the tcl roku image but just a black screen afterwards

What if I'm only getting 70volts steady (69.5v) testing the power at the led driver board? It acts the same plugged and unplugged (driver board) it starts at 135ish and falls to 70ish and remains steady? So no 120 or 100,but 70v?ugggg, It's a 43in vizio exactly like yours in the video. I keep thinking it's the leds but now I'm not sure? It does EXACTLY what your did. Ironically haha. I appreciate any info and direction

I do not see any microlights and I do not see any shadows on the black screen using a flashlight. Do you have any suggestions for repair and do you sell parts?

can a bad (bulging) capacitor in the LED driver section cause the values to be 0 volts ? Cause that's what I'm getting. I'm waiting for a replacement capacitor but I'm wondering if I still might need to replace the PSU. Great videos BTW!
