Most of the Backlights are no longer working on a FW68 mini set with Digital Compact Cassette. In this video we are testing LED to replace the existing lights.

LED is a definite improvement, as well as the illuminated DCC logo.

I did a similar modification to a Ford clock when I fitted it into my classic car (Hillman Avenger), so it didn't generate so much heat. Light spots were reduced, though not quite eliminated, by filing the front of the LEDs flat so the light scattered a lot more.

I tried upgrading my FW68 with three LEDs and it looks like cr*p because the light is so uneven. I like the idea of using two (not three) LEDs and putting them sideways to spread the light better. I wonder if it would look even better if you put them further apart. Next time I visit, I'll bring my FW68 and we'll try it out. I think my FW91 miniset could use a similar upgrade by the way.
