With production so low it had to end. They didn't make anything from it.

The production numbers for the car units are surprisingly low. I wonder if there are fewer surviving car units because they were more likely to get thrown out after the owner upgraded, or scrapped with the cars they were installed in. While the home units were more likely to get stashed in a basement or attic.
@DRDCC18 күн бұрын
The way, the formula works, it should not matter as much, how many survivors there are. But I agree, that the number of car units are low. They were also almost double the price of a home deck.
Whoa... only 58k DCC900s... I'd have thought there would be much more...

Are you sure that number 24 bit is accurate on the RS-DC8? I also have a RS-DC8 connected to a Marantz AV8805A PRE Amp and it says depending on source (32, 44,1 and 48 kHz) always 16 bits... The manual also mentioned nothing about 18 or 24 bit.
@DRDCCАй бұрын
Yes. 100% confirmed. The electronics built for this are verified and accurate. What it means is that the last digital converter is outputting 24 bit permanently. Like explained in the video, that does not mean it is 24, 20 or even 18 bit as you would need to find the weakest link in the chain. For most players that component limits it to 16-18-20 bit.
@markschotgerrits283Ай бұрын
@@DRDCC hmmm interesting. The Marantz is capable of handling such bitrates (and even higher). So it should indicate 32/44,1/48 always on 24 bit on the sp/diff output?
@DRDCCАй бұрын
@@markschotgerrits283on 44.1-48 yes. Never tested 32 until just now. It also is 24 bit. When recording from analog sources. 32,44.1 and 48 record 18 bit. From digital sources 24 bit. During playback both register 24 bit.

I have a 1998 Cadillac Seville STS it has a mini disc player in it too ( it’s a right hand drive ) however my FM radio is very quiet sort of like it has no amplifier however tapes play just fine - do you have any idea why that would be the case ?
Does the DCC decks enhance or improve the sound of normal music tapes when playing them?

Not really.

You can’t use regular analog cassettes for recording on any dcc machine. Only playback.

I stumbled across this looking for info on restoring my DCC-170. IIRC mine has display issues and needs a new belt. I have been inside the unit and batteries a time or two, I also have the original earbuds, the short "extension cord" remote, four block batteries, and the mains adapter. I never expected the thing to work again but maybe it will!

I am fixing Beosound Century 2652, and the tape mechanism looks virtually the same. Sadly, on my unit, that gear not just cracked, but crumbled into dust, so I cannot be 100% sure of its original shape. I managed to source images on the internet, and the gear *looks* the same as in that video. You guys are obviously more knowledgeable than me on tape mechanisms, so maybe you know if the "Philips WT01 RER 5" is mechanically the same?

Pretty sure it’s the same gear.

I remember working on a RF radio set, could not find the fault, I completely dismantled it. Replaced every component, still nothing. 2 years on and off it completely ruined me! I lost it, bounced the thing of a wall. Hey presto it worked. Still to this day, 25 years on i have no idea what was wring with it.

I bought a new 170 model in the 90s and barely used it. The optical output wasn't working, and I took off the bottom cover to see what would happen. To my surprise I found two shorted welds. I fixed it and was able to transfer the SPDIF audio to the PC. In 2018 I looked to see if it worked, but no. I decided to change the strap. I opened it very carefully and found a similar square belt to change it. After reassembling it and charging the battery I was able to verify that it worked correctly in both digital and analog. Last week I wanted to try it with a DC tape and "power ON" appears and then "Power OFF" and then it turns off. It was no use recharging the old 4.8V NiCd battery or directly with the external power supply. I doubt the strap has broken again, but I'm afraid of having to open it again...The plastic exterior is sticky.

2 questions. Does this give the 730 "normal" record level metres when trying to set the record level using analogue. Secondly, is there an external housing option so you don't have to dremel out the front facia?!
@DRDCC3 ай бұрын
I would mot say “normal” record as the are not set to 0db, but you can set them to be used like that. There is also the option to have the external box 3d printed. Bit more cable work but it works.

Hello my friend dcc musum, I watched with great interest the interesting episode in which you visited Mark in the United Kingdom, in which you presented a very unique model of the wonderful DCC devices, and in which Mark tried to repair the device, but to repair it requires time. I am Mourad from Algeria. Personally, I have a great passion for these devices, but I have no idea about this unique device. I wish you both success in repairing it, and see you with the new ones. I hope to see this device working in the next episode. My regards to Mark.

This was like a mystery murder film, great video!, back in the day some of those devices had antitheft tech in them, maybe it was already activated, rendering the device useless.
