African American Blues music had a huge influence on the British and Irish music scene of the 1960's and many of the major acts from that time started out as Blues bands and is usually more obvious with a groups early music with the indigenous sound added in. From just a group like say John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers came Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce (Cream), Fleetwood Mac's founding member Peter Green who wrote Blues hits like 'Oh Well', Man of the World, Albatross and the original hit version of Black Magic Woman (later Covered by Santana). Also in the Bluebreakers were Mick Fleetwood and John McVie who Green named the band after. Pink Floyd are named after 2 Blues artists, Pink Anderson and Floyd Council whilst Ozzi Osbourne's Black Sabbath started as a Blues band called Earth whilst a band from Richmond London, called the Metropolitan Blues Quartet became the house band of Richmond's biggest club and in doing so pushed the Rolling Stones out. The Yardbirds which produced Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Jeff Beck. Under Page the Yardbirds became the New Yardbirds and then Led Zeppelin and there are countless other acts influenced not just by the early rock n roll sound of Elvis, Chuck Berry but also the BB King, Muddy Waters, Howling Wolf, Bo Diddley and Elmore James.

Driving around in the early 70's in our Dodge Chargers, Mustangs, Chevelles, Road Runners, Super Bees and Camaros listening to rock and roll all night. We loved them all, Stones, Aerosmith, Pink Floyd,Boston, The Who, Doors, however when Led Zep came on the volume went up and never came down. It was common in our town to pass another car who was listening to the same song and seeing everyone shaking their heads and singing just like we were. Saw them in Providence RI in 73. Incredible ! Wore out many Led Zep 8 track tapes. Played them til the tape spit out the front of the tape deck. Dated girls who wouldn't tell their parents they went out with us because of the music. Hung out in parking lots and reservoirs til the sun came up. Didn't know at the time how much the music would stay with us forever. I am 65 now and still listen with the headphones. My wife thinks I have a problem. Yup I do and always will.

In my opinion, this is Robert's best vocal of any song he ever did. That being said though, we don't see the reactors getting into the music itself...the guitar, drums...they almost always notice Robert only which is disappointing because they truly were 4 equal members in that group and each one of them are as fantastic as the other....but reactors don't really seem to hear them very much. When I heard this particular song for the first time many years ago, it was the acoustic guitar that literally dropped me to my knees in front of my stereo speakers. It wasn't just the notes that were being played, it was the way that Jimmy played then with extreme sensitivity. Focus on the guitar only for the first minute or so....its so freaking emotional as of it were crying. The vocals were just the icing on cake. This reaction vid was terrific! I love watching a new, passionate Zep fan going down the rabbit hole. Your reactions make us appreciate the music all the more...thank you! 👍😊

This song is really interesting because it's part of the "rambling man" motif in English folk tales. Robert wrote a few songs on this theme, most famous of which is "Ramble On": the image of the man who leaves not because he doesn't love his woman, but because it's just in his nature to keep going, to keep moving, to keep walking, to keep rambling. He can't keep still, he can't stay, the horizon keeps calling him. Another beautiful take on this is Bert Jansch's song "January Man", where the year is characterized as twelve rambling men, one for each month, who keep appearing and disappearing every year in an eternal cycle. It's folk rather than rock but I think you'll enjoy it: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/eqqia7RkydKtmI0.html Some beautiful acoustic guitar work in that one. :)

I always have thought a part of the reason younger generations don't understand music as well as they could is because they are listening on phones and computers, so only hear the "surface" of the music. Part of the art of music is the recording itself, the stereo spread, etc. Listening on crap equipment you miss a huge part of the full picture. It is like seeing a master painting on a small screen... You can't really experience the full impact of it until you stand in front of it and see it in all three dimensions - as in music, can't hear it until you have the respect to listen on good equipment. The recording itself is something a band used to spend much time on getting right so the listening experience is a complete experience in itself. Luckily, because of this trend of listening likeThatSinger and others are doing, maybe that aspect will become important again. Excellent job man, thanks so much for doing it right!!
