One thing I appreciate about this (and a lot of their songs) is how the singing and instruments cooperate and compliment each other. The music dips in intensity while he sings, and roars back when he finishes speaking his piece. Then the back and forth between voice and guitar! I always think it's laughable that people say Zep was just a rip-off cover band. They simply took elements of existing songs and expanded them, often so much so that they're unrecognizable from the original. Zep wasn't stealing songs as much as paying homage to their blues heroes.

Check out their How many more times live from 1969 one of their first ever appearances and it was also broadcast live over the radio so the crowd was quite but they had no clue about this new band IMO.I seen them in 1970 and they played all of Zeppelin 1 & 2 two and a half hours of nonstop rock

Wow! just think about how you feel listening to that for the first time, how do you think I felt when I was 12 years old and my brother brought that 8- track tape home.. he only like the song called "Communication Breakdown" and never really was a fan.. but I love that album from beginning to end and my life was never the same, my life changed at 12 years old after I listen to Led Zeppelin for the first time and I got to see them a couple of times live also that live Stairway to Heaven you saw, I saw that show at the LA Forum in 1975.. I was 17... and high...

This has definately been displayed 2 odd years ago. Always been a zeppy fan. Phenomenal band. The Only band had no singles released. If you want to hear zeppy? You have to listen to the whole and each album. Huge spice of blues, hard rock and cosmic vibes. Raw, rude, Rigit great piece of a fitted jigsaw puzzle.

You two should watch the DVD concert called Celebration Day by this group . This was actually a lottery concert held in London. Keep in mind the group is a lot older (2007) one more thing..The drummer is the son of the deceased (John Bonham). It's a great show

One of things about the musicians of this band is that they didn't just play and sing to their songs, they were all an intricate part of it. Everything they played had purpose. There are a lot bands/songs that you could slip in a different drummer, bassist, guitarist and even vocalist in some cases and not even notice. Not so with any of their songs. Change one instrument part and the whole song dynamic changes. Which is why, when people cover them, it can be difficult to do it justice. (With the exception Anne and Nancy Wilson of Heart, because well, they're just amazing.)

Zep was probably the best band ever at the build up to face melting section of their songs. Keep it kind of sorta mellow for a while then they give you a slight warning(violin part in this instance) then please hold on to the bar! Zep = GOAT!

Great reaction. As some have mentioned, the sounds during the middle were made by guitarist Jimmy Page using a bow on his guitar. These were truly 4 master musicians who, when combined, created perfection. If you are appreciative of the craftsmanship on the studio cuts, thank Jimmy Page; not only did he create the band and possess "Sensei" level guitar skills, he also produced all their albums and no recording went out without his approval. Now...if you want to see the ULTIMATE live version of this song, watch the video of it from their concert movie called The Song Remains The Same (it's the same concert where the live Stairway to Heaven footage came from). The video is 28 minutes long (yes indeed) but WORTH IT. It is like a mini concert all by itself. Back in the day, it wasn't unusual for Zep to play 3 hour concerts so a 20+ minute song performance was no big deal lol.

Led Zeppelin is one of the greatest bands in the world, ever, they laid the foundation for modern rock. As a band they were amazing, because every member was amazing. John Bonham, or Bono, was one of the greatest drummers ever, who could play the craziest rhythms and fills. Jimmy Page is still a guitar virtuoso, with incredible knowledge and range. John Paul Jones is very underrated, as many bassists are, but without him, Led Zeppelin would not be what it is, being able to both follow Bono and support Page is an achievement on its own. Robert Plant's voice brings it all together in what still is some of the greatest music ever written. They never stuck to a single style or genre, because they didn't need to. As pioneers to could explore music in any way they liked and the fans would lap it up. The level of experimentation on stage says it all. To be able to stray that far from what you wrote and still collectively come back to it, defines a great band. They were so connected, that everyone knew where the music should go and went there. Other great songs are Black Dog, Whole Lotta Love, Ramble On, Rock and Roll and The Girl I Love She Got Long Black Wavy Hair. The live version are good, but the studio/album version really lets you hear all the music as it doesn't get lost in the performance.

I'd say Led Zeppelin is THE classic rock band. They were the pioneers of their sound and influenced majority of rock musicians and during their own time. They were different which made them legends.

When the Levee Breaks and Kashmir are two of their most beloved songs. You can hear the blues influence in their vibe. Rock and Roll is heavily influenced by rhythm and blues with some angst and guitar added. When the Levee Breaks has some soulful swamp rock jazz sound to it with that amazing harmonica they add in. TO Asia's point - never heard a band that add that many sounds - the peak of that particular mountain would be Pink Floyd. But Led Zeppelin is close there with them.
