In the past you had to stand out as all were trying to stand out in the 60s and 70s. 80s is when things broke down and at the time it brought a new wave of amazing stuff as the bands were still good. Some managed to evolve to fit into new genres and some only did a few songs that would be called in the new style and basically were still who they were in the past. Some were lucky and became so famous to gain great song writers who would work for them. By the 90s the music was falling apart and since the beginning of this new century it has gone to a place where one has to wonder if music will ever recover.

Rick, and IMO another aspect of what makes Led Zeppelin SO unique is that in the case of "Greatest Rock Drummer (or Lead Singer, Guitarist, Bassist) Ever" each of Zeppelin's formidable foursome is either at the top of their respective category, or in the top-5 of all-time greats. For example, I would comfortably bet my life that John Bonham will be rated the #1 rock drummer ever in the majority of legit rock publications/links. Jimmy Page has always been in the discussion of one of the top lead guitarists ever in rock history. Same with JPJ on the bass. And even Rolling Stone named Robert Plant the greatest front man in rock history. It's all subjective, but I don't think there's ever been as all-around talented a rock band as Zeppelin (with all due respect to The Who).

I just love how you picked up on the drummer, John Bonham. Most people who get hooked on Zeppelin is because of the subliminal quality of Bonham’s drumming. He was quite a rare gem! It was very sad when he died. But his son has carried John’s legacy playing in reunion concerts.

'That' drummer is no other than John Bonham. He's regularly cited as the greatest rock drummer of all time. John Bonham was an absolute beast on the drums and his sad and untimely death in 1980 was the reason the remaining members of LZ disbanded. Bonham's son, Jason, did his daddy proud with his performances at Celebration Day in 2007 and at the Kennedy Centre Honors in 2012. RIP Bonzo.

I can't add much to what's already been said. The greatest rock band of all time in my opinion, and with Kashmir there are not enough superlatives. JP and Jimmy are just fantastic, John Henry is simply the GOAT, but has there ever been another front man with the voice and charisma of Robert Plant. A simply amazing combination.

Zep process that rare ability to paint the listener a picture and like Robert Plant says take you there much like an actual artist does with their canvass!. Zep were born in the same year i was born and i love the fact that they are still relavant today and are appreciated by young members of our world today. Keep on rocking and remember it doesn't get any better than Led Zeppelin 🤟

Hey (Ms-Eastern-European-country-that-I-don't-know-of) lady, once again you came across one of the biggest reasons why Zeppelin will always be one of THE titans of rock music: they LOVED playing together. Robert Plant once said, "We really get off playing together" and it was so evident when they played. IMO, I don't know that there has ever been as close-nit a band as Zeppelin. And that's also why when the man (John "Bonzo" Bonham) most often called THE greatest rock drummer ever suddenly died at the young age of 32, Zeppelin died too. Bonzo was no stranger to drinking, but the sad part of what almost certainly contributed to Bonham's premature death is Bonzo LOVED, LOVED, LOVED his wife, children and the farm they owned in the English countryside, and he grew increasingly frustrated and lonely at being on the road for LOOOONG stretches with the most popular band in the world at the time, so he wouldn't see his wife & kids for months on end. So then he increasingly turned to drinking, and as most his friends noted, Bonzo was a sweetheart of a guy, but he became another person, a wild man, sometimes even VERY nasty (out of frustration and hurting from not being with the family). And that one fateful night, Bonzo had been drinking all day, got VERY shitfaced, and because of HOW drunk he was, he fell asleep on his back, and drowned in his own vomit.

Hello young lady. This by far has to be my favorite Zeppelin song. I was in high school when this album came out in 1975, had to save up my money to buy it because at $13, for a double album, it was tough on a teenagers bank account. If you want more of John Bonham, the drummer, check out "Moby Dick" from their 1973 concert at Madison Square Garden. Actually the bass player John Paul Jones was playing the Melotron, he put out those Middle Eastern tones all the while playing bass with his feet.
