The members of Led Zeppelin feel this song, Kashmir, is their best masterpiece. While most people cite Stairway to Heaven as the ultimate Rock song, the band would prefer to be remembered for this.

Kashmir is about Plant & Page’s trip to Morocco, driving through the Sahara Desert. Meeting the people who kind of live in a different time, they couldn’t understand the language, but they did the music. Plant still visits Morocco often, he fell in love with it & its people. Being in the Desert & not seeing anything but sand forever. This is the song they are most proud of, my understanding it took a couple years to get the instrumental they way they wanted. Definitely a beautiful song, & the lives are amazing.

Though titled kashmir, which is in India the song is about his travels in Morocco and through the northern Sahara desert.

I agree it's a strange title since the lyrics talk about wandering through a "Yellow desert stream" and there are none of those anywhere in Kashmir but I guess Plant decided Morocco or Tunisia or Libya, Egypt, Iraq or Saudi Arabia just didn't work.

The riff has been sampled to death. The song also appeared in one of the Godzilla movies some 10 years ago or more. It definitely wasn't written for a movie, but has been used. If you asked the members of Led Zeppelin they would tell you this is their favorite song, or so I've heard.

The first time I saw Zeppelin was 1969 70 at the Fillmore East new york.and all three shows at Madison square garden 1973. All together saw them about 13 time's

Kashmir, live, Celebration Day, 2007, O2 Arena, London, England - one of THE best versions. The 3 Led Zeppelin members are all in their 60’s, but they still can bring it like they are in their 20’s. Can’t wait for that reaction video!!

Puff Daddy covered this for Godzilla sound track. "Come with me." Zeppelin until the early 2000's, RARELY let people use their music for anything. Thats why you will never see them on Guitar Hero or Rock Band or any other musical "game" type thing.

Houses of the holy is a great album to, I was privileged enough to see Robert Plant perform, 7 months preggo and new I had to go see this and it was remarkable his voice is pure gold
