Zeppelin were famous for extending many songs in concert and for their spontaneous jams. It allowed them to expand and come up with new ideas off the cuff. While you may have wished the solo was shorter, it is an exercise in guitar ecstasy and emotion. Every note, speaks

Rebeka, Jimmy Page does extend the solo live, yes. The original, studio version of this legendary song is shorter, more concise. Both versions are brilliant but this live version...my friend, what you are hearing and seeing here is PASSION. This live solo is not scripted, nor pre-planned note-for-note. It has a general structure and has some linkage with the original version but most of this is improvised on the spot, in the moment. You need to understand that Jimmy's fingers and his soul were on FIRE during this performance. He laid it all out there and he let, honestly, the GODS guide his playing! He is an artist of the highest order and he put all of himself into this solo so, yes, it was a bit more lengthy than the original. And it was all the better for it. Peace and love!

I appreciate you thinking Pages’ solos are too long but after hearing the song a thousand times in different versions live and studio, to us Zeppelin fans Jimmys solos are too short! They are always unique, we look for the nuance of them all, you have to let them simmer in you brain they all taste different but the same at the same time. He does occasional y gets lost and John Bonham steers him back into tempo😂

The best voice in rock music, one of the greatest guitarists of all time, one of the three greatest drummers and one of the three greatest bass players, all in one band. No other group can match that. The result of course is timeless excellence. As the old saying goes, "They don't make them like that anymore". As for the length of the guitar solo, in the 60's/70's they were meant to be long, Page, Clapton, Beck, Gilmour, Hendrix etc live could produce solos of 15-20 minutes.

With the lighting behind him, he really looks every inch of the Golden God. Jimmy is starting to be at the top of his game during this time and for the next two years. He has created some of the most well known riffs in rock n roll. JPJ and Bonzo round out the band so that each person contributes equally. It is an amazing stroke of luck that these 4 people got together and created music for us that is still being listened to and discovered by a new generation today!

Thant you for giving Zeppelin another chance. You definitely will not regret it. Their songs are all unique and no 2 songs really sound the same. That is why you can’t say that they are a Rock band because they do rock but then they groove like a blues band. Or a folk band, some songs sound country, or soul,R&B even a little punk and reggae. And a little heavy metal so what kind of band are they? They are in their own league that cannot be compared to any other band. That is why they are the greatest band to grace the stage

Late to the party, amazing live performance, I understand your reaction and to the solo, it’s your perspective and that’s awesome, but for pure LZ fans and guitar fans it’s never enough when it’s this good, it’s not just the sound, it is appreciating the skill to be able to do what Jimi does live or in any environment. Along with that though live performances concerts aren’t about just the music I’m sure you understand it’s a experience and in our era this era, through the 80s, 90s esp with no cell phones people actually were present in the moment, you were part of the music it wasn’t about pure sound quality voice or instrumentals though as many others have said this era usually delivered it all esp 70s and 80s the talent the skills was so high, not to be one of those guys compared to today, so live performances you have to almost transform yourself to what it was like at that time, close your eyes imagine there’s no mobile devices, imagine these no people, no countries, no war, no economic issues, you are part of the crowd sweaty heaving to the beat of the band on stage and just flowing like water, rather than trying to run upstream, when you are there in this time, solos like that are next level, as is was that whole performance that they and others were known for. Also so much else happens in the crowd from tops coming off to you think of it it happens or did back when, I saw my fair share of shit, ya never forget that. But respect your opinion reaction, just trying to show another angle to the Live vibe for reaction.

It's good to note that Rock Concerts are usually an exercise in jams and emotion, often extending parts of the song according to what the band artistically is feeling that day. Many unexperienced to this era of live shows are expecting to hear the polished cut versions of recorded albums usually mastered for radio play at the time. Many bands felt that studio recordings are condensed versions of what they Really want to play. Record producers and record companies usually makes this decision. Also Live shows are sometimes influenced in mental states, if you know what I mean, with audiences and performers both in a mutual vibe. When I first saw this particular performance (this video) I also kind of thought the same thing as you but that was my mind comparing the studio version, but once I put that out of my mind and closed my eyes, it was perfect... different but perfect as a live "rendition" It's all about how you approach it I guess.

As the years progressed, Zeppelin shows got longer. From 2 hours to 5 or 6 hours. They didn't want to omit any songs from their song list, so as more material came about the longer the shows became.I had a bootleg titled Montreal "75" and Robert said something to the point of "hey brother we've been known to play for 8 hours." Today to see a top name band you would spend over $100 a ticket and would be lucky if they actually sang and if they played longer than 46 minutes. Zeppelin gave the people what they wanted. There I'd none equal or greater than the mighty Led Zeppelin

Rebeka, I love your reactions and genuine love for music. It makes me so happy to see someone discover unbelievable music from years past that I grew up with. You would have been a fantastic date for a Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Queen, Eagles, Rolling Stones etc. concert. I have seen them all many times and their undeniable genius. It all comes from an age where either you had the goods or you didn't. There were no backing tracks, lip syncing, auto tune, synthetic tones, enhanced vocals...it was pure and utter magic. Absolutely no "fake it until you make it" happening during those times. You have just scratched the surface of what will be your incredible and soulful musical journey. And if you are ever need of a concert going companion, just let me know. It would be my honor.

Old Jimbob can sure make that Double-necked Gibson talk. LOL! I threw one over my shoulder at Guitar Center and got a shoulder ache. That thing weighs a ton. I bet Jimmy had a backache after every concert he played. Cool guitar, awesome player. Zeppo rules!

You’re not the first music reviewer to be a little less impressed by the live version, but as with him once you review the Studio version you will change your mind 100%. I’d love to see you listen to the studio version. It’s a Masterpiece for All Time❤

I generally like the studio version of the SONG more, but this version of the guitar SOLO is my favorite by a landslide.

What are the odds that right at the beginning of rock music The Beatles and Led Zeppelin arrived with the talent in both. That Jimmy Page, an absolutely great guitarist, and Robert Plant landed in one band is phenomenal. Plants voice is ethereal and mesmerizingly suited for rock.

@@rebekaluizebudlevskamusic That is one of the few Zeppelin songs I am not crazy about. If you like mellow try "Going To California" which is great live too. Dazed and Confused & Kashmir are two of their best but there are plenty more. Zeppelin often have very long solos in the live performances so I'd suggest you stick with the studio versions with a few exceptions. Immigrant song is great live. You should check out Pink Floyd too.

Maybe the solo was a little long, but, look at it from the concert goers view - they got to see a legend at work, and, they also got their moneys worth of a show.

The extended solos were a thing of the 70s guitar heroes. A guitarist then, like the other members of the band, were all judged by their solo performances. Something you will never see today's music.
