When George Harrison told John Bonham “the problem with your band is you don’t do any ballads,” Jimmy Page and Robert Plant responded by hopping out of a nearby closet and surprising Harrison with an impromptu acoustic performance of The Rain Song. Following the performance, Harrison then said “fair play to you, Zeppelin” and went to Eric Clapton’s house to write his musical rebuttal “Here Comes the Sun.”
Wow, if Here Comes the Sun had not been written and released several years prior, this story (which contains some factual elements) would have almost made sense.

Faark! You mean to say I didn’t need to get the ferry from Northern Ireland, hitch a ride to London, get the train and hike to Knebworth castle. On Aug 17 ....1977! , me thinks , could be wrong. Slept in a bevy bag , it rained right after the concert. Bunch of wet folks making their way home on the Monday. I don’t like Mondays, 😳☘️😀 We were 17 , it as the last bit of summer, didn’t ask permission, just did it , only one guy died , so. Good mission , in my books . Just kidding, no animals were hurt during the filming of this video. Nicely done you guys , you did one justice.✌️👍☘️🇨🇦

WOW! loved this cover. This is one of my favorite songs as well. The emotion is felt coming through the instruments and the singing. It actually brought a tear to my eye!

It's one of the cooler stories we know about. I don't know the chap but I do imagine Harrison actually saying something along the lines of, "well then" or more hopefully, "right, fuckers" before heading off to cook up a rebuttal to this.

Keep spinning those yarns...and having fun playing music. You already know you have mic or mixing or quality sound problems. You already know what your strengths and weaknesses are. You already know what quality playing and singing is. So, figure out what you want to do and be. You all look like you are having fun. That can be enough.

When you strip this song to melody, it is very weak. In fact it really does not have a melody, but rather effects. Mood inducing effects. George Harrison once suggested Page create a ballad, possibly because he knew Page could not create quality melody (he can't). Melody is the test. Mozart said melody is the essence of music. He was right. Led Zeppelin depended on every trick in the book, they had no choice, they had to. Pseudo-mysticism, gimmicks, theatricality, overdone emoting, atmospherics, heavy plagiarism. Many musicians of high standing have said they do not think highly of Led Zeppelin. I can see why.
