@@LFRFAMILY PLEASE... You've reacted (really well, with insight and intelligence !) to how they bring the fire and energy of rock. But they were also heavily influenced by all sorts of music, including folk, and jazz. Now maybe that isn't your jam... But it's done by these guys, with all those textures and tones they have at their disposal, so PLEASE... React to The Rain Song. Just a suggestion, but check out the live version by Plant and Page Unledded. You won't find better, and it's proof that they didn't stop being fantastic musicians just because zeppelin ended.

D'yer Mak'er is pronounced like Jermaker (Jamaica). It's a little joke which plays on the reggae vibe of the song as well as a funny story of two men talking. The first man says, "I haven't seen your wife about recently. Is she ill? The second man replies, "She's on holiday in the Caribbean." The first guy asks, "Oh? Jamaica?" @@williamcabell142 no need to be rude and call people morons, because it's actually both.. It's pronounced "Jer-maker", it taken from the old joke about the guy telling his friend he took a girl out last night and she was from the Islands, the friend asked; "Jamaica?" The Story Of The Song “D’yer Mak’er” By Led Zeppelin /It Was An Unexpected Hit It’s no secret that Led Zeppelin wasn’t too fond of releasing singles. But once in a while, they did cave in to pressure and release a few singles - one of which was “D’yer Mak’er” from their fifth studio album “Houses of the Holy”. It was frontman Robert Plant who tried convincing the rest of the group to release it as a single but the other three refused. So in the end, it was released as a single in the US (where it peaked at #20) but not in the UK. The song aimed to imitate reggae and its derivative “dub”. It developed during one of their rehearsals in 1972 at the Stargroves manor house. Drummer John Bonham was working on a beat that’s quite similar like 1950s doo-wop and he added a twist to it, achieving a reggae-influenced sound. They considered this as a “joke” song. The title is pronounced “Jamaica” with several DJs and fans mispronouncing it as “Dire Maker”. Guitarist Jimmy Page explained in a 1977 interview with Trouser Press, “I didn’t expect people not to get it. I thought it was pretty obvious. The song itself was a cross between reggae and ’50s number, ‘Poor Little Fool,’ Ben E. King’s things, stuff like that.” And Led Zeppelin managed to create that distinctive drum sound by placing three microphones away from Bonzo’s drums. Not surprisingly, they never performed this live. Plus, bassist John Paul Jones wasn’t shy about his distaste for this track.

Love the reaction. It's great to see you like Zeppelin! You're right, they were a supergroup! A couple of facts: 1. The title is pronounced like Ja-make-ah or Jamaica--its short for "Did ya make her?". It refers to a joke Robert Plant heard frequently in pubs in Birmingham, England. It goes, "The wife went on vacation today!" "Jamaica (or Did ya make her? In an English accent)?" "No, it was her idea!" 2. to answer who did what: Jimmy Page played all guitars, John Paul Jones played bass and piano. Which shows how good they were at multi-tracking the music. The reason being that Page and Jones were session musicians and producers before they got together in Led Zeppelin.

That's jimmy page over dubbing rythm and lead solo guitar parts! He does that on all his studio recordings there's songs where page has like 5 guitar over dubs! That's why page live does an awesome job trying to play all his guitar parts! Page needs like 5 guitarist live to play all studio parts! but Page does a awesome job doing it solo!

Love your reactions, man. I've seen a bunch of the earlier Zeppelin reacts, but I have a feeling you would have a blast literally doing every single song on their last album before John Bonham died. It's called In Through the Out Door. They are at the top of their game at that point. When I was a kid I thought it was too pop but now that I'm older and I've been a musician my whole life, it's just mind-blowing.

Amazing tracks that occasionally get lost in the shuffle of their unbelievable catalog. What Is is especially great for the jaring tempo changes, something not done too often, but often mind-blowing when done well (Bachman-Turner Overdrive's *Welcome Home* and Lynyrd Skynyrd's *Was I Right or Was I Wrong* being a couple other fantastic examples of it done really well)

English pronounce it like Jamaica which is the same way they'd pronounce Did you make her (D'yer Maker). It's a little joke that's a play on words. Also if you listen to the lyrics of the song it's about a man who doesn't want his woman to go. It was she who wanted to go. (In line with the joke about a man's wife going to the Caribbean and his friend asking 'Jamaica?' and the man says, 'No she went of her own accord'.)

This is my favorite Zeppelin song. It brings back so many awesome memories. I went to college in 1995 and we use to play this track a lot back then. My friends and I were on a 60’s kick. The Doors,Pink Floyd,Led Zeppelin,Steve Miller and others. We still listened to hip hop, metal, grunge but for a while there we were listening to a lot of 60’s and 70’s music. The acid and mushrooms we were “experimenting” with might of had something to do with it lol

@@LFRFAMILY Jimmy played bass in the Yardbirds for a bit, just so he could be in a band. Then their bass player came back, and Jimmy played guitar along with Jeff Beck. Prior to that, Jimmy and Jonesy (JPJ) had worked together as studio musician's, so when Jimmy started putting together his own band, Jonesy's wife told him to call Jimmy... and the rest is history.

@@LFRFAMILY Bonzo died in 1980, (he was 32).... alcohol intoxication.... It is said that he had the equivalent of 40 shots of alcohol in his system. He had choked on his vomit during his sleep. The guys were devastated and decided they could not replace him so they disbanded. Hence, their entire catalogue was basically created over a ten year period... 1969 thru 1979. To have such a huge body of work in that short time makes it even more EPIC!
