Wes got his hands on a set of LED, HID, and Halogen driving lights, all from Narva, to compare the different methods of producing light and see which one works best. We left them running for 90 seconds each and measured things like heat and LUX at 50m. Check it out.

The reason some lights seem brighter despite the readings is something called optimal luminous efficiency. We don't perceive different coloured lights of the same intensity to have the same brightness. Light that peaks around 5200K will be perceived to be the brightest. It's just the way we've evolved.

Great comparison! Really well done. Thanks!

I still use halogen, they're pretty bullet proof and the colour is far better for fog and snow. Especially if it's an amber light, like Piaa. If I can't see far enough quick enough, I just lower my speed.

In my experience you get more distance out of halogen and hid lights, but overall I prefer my led lights I have now. The led's throw a nice even light across the road with no hotspots.

I'm not sure if you are aware, but from 4:03 to 4:40 odd was the only time you showed the actual light comparison - hope youve improved in the last few years in between :)

@@Aussiefish86 in power consumption for sure haha. You can run 5 HID narvas to 1 nemesis

@@lunchie80 doesn’t mean squat when the light quality coming out of them is complete rubbish. Who gives a shit about power consumption? It’s not as if the car isn’t running when they are on.

@@Aussiefish86 having to run a 12 to 24 converter and 500w of lights(plus the loss of the converter which will likely be 90% efficient) plus your other headlights(let's be conservative and say just normal H4s which is 120w for two) and you're EASILY at 50A for those alone. Add in a DCDC charger(25A). You're now at 75A. Typical cars at idle(fuel pump, ignition, ecu, stereo, electric power steering pumps, demisters, heated seats etc on modern cars all add up quickly. In fact new cars need 35-50A just running doing nothing. So 50A for a modern 4wd, 50A on fyrlyt plus any other accessories and you're stressing an alternator. That 50A for fyrlyt is a MASSIVE draw and is a serious consideration some will need to factor in, and depending on situation ABSOLUTELY may overdraw a charging system. I've side by side tested fyrlyt with LED with a friend one night, yeah they're ok but not worth the stupid wiring required. 500w for a pair of lights is stupid

@@lunchie80 I don’t know about your car but mine has 140A available so I could easily run everything you mentioned above (125A) and still have some change to play around with. Most modern quality 4x4s run a minimum of 140 anyway and there is larger upgrades units easily available if you reach the limitations of the stock one. Each to their own but I much prefer the Fyrlyt units over any of my mates LED units and not only for their brightness but also due to less eye strain, less issues with penetration through dust and fog, exceptional quality and last but not least awesome customer service and made in Australia 🇦🇺.

You need +98CRI to see all colors, halogen delivers 100CRI where Led and Hid are +/- 70CRI, which means you loose 2 vital colors from the color range which you need to identify wild life with. Hid and Led has a high color temperature which is not ideal for night driving. Led and Hid glares back in fog, rain, dust and smoke, google Tyndall effect.

Agree, i like halogen better, especially for Indonesian street which the aspalt is very dark black. Only halogen lamp can produce solid light, especialy during heavy rain at night. It shows Good contrast on the street surface

They don't get much more closely matched than three lights from the same manufacturer and as close wattage as possible?

Wes the wattage and specification are very different things. The halogen spotties they tested were rubbish units. They should have tested the market leading units for each type.
