I got a Lee Value Turret press. Been using that for over 5 years. I got a like new Dillion XL750 on a trade, came ready for 9mm. I went and got a 45acp caliber conversion kit which cost me about $280 for both conversion kit and quick change kit. I love my Dillion soo much. I am slowly transferring everything off my Lee Turret to the Dillion.

Been using a LEE press for almost 40 years. I started on the OLD 3 hole Turret Press (State of the Art in the 80's). I still use it for De-Capping before cleaning. 6 years ago I got a Loadmaster and with a few mods over the years it serves me well (.223/45 acp/9mm)!

Thanks, Cleatus. If you want the scoop, I would say just go ahead and buy a LoadMaster. You won't regret it. There are things I like about the ABLP, but It's just a more capable machine that runs smoothly. The ABLP has a really slick case feeder, but everything else about the LM is smoother in use, and a lot faster.

Excellent, excellent information. So many questions answered. Do you think part of the pricing disparity could be that Lee isn't sure how successful the new model will be, and aren't making that many initially? I personally don't like the Loadmaster, but there's no disputing it's popularity; that likely means there's some economics of scale at work on it's price.

One of the challenges I'm dealing with right now, is that I spend so much making videos, I don't really get to watch them. The new Lee press is something I've really, really wanted to check out, but honestly your total-cost-of-ownership comparison and feature list pretty much told me everything I need to know. I was totally one of those "Maybe I'll buy one of these, I've got a good feeling about it" people you mentioned, and now as you stated I have the information to make a decision based on information rather than 'feelings'. Traditionally I've been a Lee and Dillon man, but there are just so many other presses out there. Trying to figure out what you need, and what the total cost of ownership is when making decisions like this is tough. I wish you'd been making videos when I got started out fifteen years ago.

@@TATVCanada thank Eagle Eye . He sent me the press just to get this kind of information out. I have not been very subtle about it , but I still think the loadmaster is the purchase to recommend . They've gotten so cheap right now at about $260 US . you have dies already the only cost that you're really looking at would be priming systems shell plates and a few Turrets. even if you turn out to be one of those guys who prefers single stage reloading on the whole it's really nice to have either one of these presses for stuff like fast brass processing . That may be the one task that the ABLP has a slight edge at. the a BLP is designed to be a little bit deliberately looser clearances , so brass just slides right in and out smoothly . For something like large batch D priming in a hurry , or brass converting from one caliber to another such as 300 blackout the a BLP is just a little bit slicker . But if I was just getting one... loadmaster. @260 bucks even if you just set it up for one caliber that you shoot a lot of , it's pretty hard to lose.

I'm switching from loadmaster to breech lock pro for 9mm after 2 years and tens of thousands of rounds. The loadmaster takes tinkering to keep it running 100%. The priming system and indexer/carrier are finicky and spent primers fill the ram. It's just too high maintenance for being just a little faster vs breech lock

I have never loaded on a lee press. I have a Hornady lnl ap, load mostly 10mm, 40 s&w, 9mm, 357 mag and 44 rem mag, and 223 rem, 243 win, and 7mm08 and 308 win on it. For me, Lee was never really a contender, due to my grandfather having several Lee presses over the years. After watching his issues with his single stage, and his Lee turret, decided to just save longer and avoid Lee altogether. I load my hunting rounds. 308, 243, 7mm08, 7mm rem mag, and 300 win on a RCBS Rock Chucker single stage. Really, really, really want someone to come out with a reliable, affordable (relatively) auto drive press that will load anything under 50 bmg. Til then, my dream is a used Camdex 2100

I would like to add that the Breech Lock Pro would have been more of a value to some of us if it was designed to use a 4 hole turret . To those of us that already have a 4 hole turret press and nearly a dozen turrets and dies already set up , Why did they go with the Breech lock setup , another extra cost ?
@GunFunZS
@GunFunZS 5 жыл бұрын
I can think of two reasons. one is I think they were trying to make the press more compact. That is actually a downside. The dies are so close together it really limits your options. reason I think the main one is that they are trying to sell this is an upgrade from their single stage and assume you already have the bushings . So it's viewed not as an upgrade from a turret press but as an alternative . The third of the two reasons is that their timing system requires a rigid mount point that doesn't change . Has to be in the center of the press . Their current turrets are designed for much of the opposite idea, and works be incompatible.

I should add that I much prefer recently made Lee dies to the older RCBS dies that I have or had. If you got a set with dies that are redundant, you will probably find that you want them anyway. I had a set of 9mm dies, then got the 9mm package of load master, and I use the dies from the old set I had for other things. One is only seating, one is used as a powder through die for .357/38, One is handy for just keeping as a decapper, or for using over the primer station with decapping pin removed.

i think you are trying to be too fancy as it comes from lee all you need is a shell plate and dies you don't need a set of lock bushings for each set do dies. you don't need a case feeder. you can set the primers by hand. it is a simpler operation and forces you to pay attention to what you are doing. which is a good thing
@GunFunZS
@GunFunZS 5 жыл бұрын
I think that is an unrealistic way to use this press and throws away most of the advantages of it . It is possible . You can also be very sure of your speed and location if you push a car rather than drive it but I don't advise it .
@GunFunZS
@GunFunZS 5 жыл бұрын
A second point: I also disagree with your assertion about it forcing you pay more attention... Your suggested method forces you to pay attention to more things . However you have a finite amount of attention so really you are dividing your attention . One of the advantages of a press like a loadmaster is that you can ignore everything except the primer feeds , but there is a powder charge, and how straight the bullet is . Moreover all of those things are in a straight visual line from each other . Your attention is focused not spread

Enjoyed the cost comparison. You're right. There is virtually no difference in cost, but good deals abound. One just has to look. There are definitely different feature benefits between the LoadMaster and the ABLPro and I certainly can't enumerate them all here. While the Loadmaster is more robust, the ABLPro offers the benefit of being easier to learn with less routine tinkering imo. In other words it's a less complex machine for those not as mechanically inclined. Another significant difference is due to the ABLPro's fixed tool head with Lee Lock Ring Eliminator Bushings and smaller shell plate. Cartridge OAL is easier to maintain because there is no possible float of the tool head and there is less shell plate flex. Both are good presses (I own both) and I would be hard pressed (no pun intended) to pick between the two for general pistol reloading. The new progressive reloader wanting a Lee progressive press should carefully pick the features which are most important to him/her and make their choice accordingly.
@GunFunZS
@GunFunZS 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the input. I'm not sure I agree that the learning curve overall is shorter with the ABLP though. I think the case feeder is certainly easier, but fighting the excessive play in the shell plates and all the wobble that induces to the cartridges in progress, IMO makes this press a lot more of a hassle. The float of the tool head is predictable, and I stamp numbers into mine for repeat positioning. However the bushings tend to back out at the threads rather than the rings, or a little bit of both. This undermines the repeatibility of positioning and is another little niggly thing to overlook. IMO that leads to more potential errors and at least as steep an overall learning curve. Plus there is the whole issue of keeping track of the extra operations like cycling the primer feed, and not partially stroking the machine to partly index.
@bradchandler6849
@bradchandler6849 5 жыл бұрын
Just like any press you get into groove after learning the ins and outs. The priming is just as easy with fingers as with the safety prime in my opinion but doesn't really slow you down compared to the safety. The good thing for the ablp is that some of us have had a breech lock for a while and already have a pile of the bushings. Which in my case I already had bushings and 2 auto drums already. The case feeder is a must have and I added the bullet feeder which I enjoy for pistol. My output was for the press and a shell plate, case feeder, bullet feeder. It was about 160ish in my head for the complete set up. no brainer for a progressive press
@GunFunZS
@GunFunZS 5 жыл бұрын
@@bradchandler6849 certainly believe you can achieve a relatively productive rhythm with ABLP, you slow down by having another manual operation . If you're doing good you're half as fast as a relaxed pace on a true progressive .
@bradchandler6849
@bradchandler6849 5 жыл бұрын
yes I agree but the safety prime is still a manual operation just the same. I would like to get a loadmaster but the cost is prohibitive to me as a retiree with a mortgage. The thing I didn't like was doing 380 and 9mm on a turret especialy the bullets with my fat fingers. The ablp has cured that and is a lot faster than a turret with the same prime feature. I agree with your assessment as far as price if you don't already have some of the equipment. But having all of it already the press price is very attractive and is an upgrade from a turret or a single stage. Funny how my fingers don't mind the primers but hate the small bullets lol. I still use the turret for large rifle applications and the ablp for 223. I definitely DO like my ablp. one pull one complete bullet.
