Very good reaction Don. As you see, in my down time I try to catch up on past reactions. The song writers were Jessi Alexander, Connie Harrington, and Jimmy Yeary. Lee took this song to #1. Here's the story behind the song. Connie (one of the writers) was driving her car listening to NPR and they were interviewing a man who was petitioning for the right to put flags on the graves of all the soldiers in the cemetery, where his son (who died in Afghanistan) was buried. During the interview they asked the man, "how do you cope with the loss of your son" to which he replied "I drive his truck". Connie quickly started jotting down details on post-it-notes. She then presented the idea to Jessi, they decided that they needed a male perspective so they brought in Jimmy. The ironic part of the story is, Connie's MO is when it looks like the idea just may flush out to a song, she dates it. As she started writing that day's date on it, June 21 2014, she began crying. Jessi asked Connie "what was wrong"? Connie zoomed in on a picture of the man's son's grave and the date the son had died was June 21st. I know I watch and/or listen to too many music documentaries, interviews and podcasts

To give a little back story on the song it’s about Sargent Jared Monti of the U.S army and his dad did a interview on a local radio station talking about how he drives his sons truck to honor him and a song writer heard the interview.

@Judy Jones That's rough, and I'm glad you're strong enough to share it. And getting away from it all, whether driving in a truck or finding a quiet spot in the woods, is essential to help us get perspective and come back to life. Keep the faith, Judy---I'm glad you're here. :-)

Wow, that's a seriously emotional song since it's so real, so down to earth. Sorry about the loss of your Dad, too. That's partly why do this channel, since I like talking about life--the good parts, the sad parts, the hard parts, the funny parts--and country music talks more about it than any other genre and in ways that hit home.

The first time I heard this song I was driving home in my truck coming home from Northern Missouri from a hunting trip. A few years before that I lost my best friend who was in the Marine corps he was in the middle east and never made it back. His dog tags hang from my mirror. This song hit me like a ton of bricks, here I am driving down the highway with tears running down my face. It's like I was ment to hear it.Rest in peace brother, I'll see when I see ya.

Oh, man...halfway through I couldn't stand it anymore, and the tears came, no matter how hard I tried to hold them back. My daddy. My younger-younger brother. My mom. There are things that I do all the time, that will suddenly remind me of one of them. Listening to this hit me on all counts. WOW! My dad used to read westerns. His favorite was Louis L'Amour. I hadn't thought about that for a long time, until one year when I decided to get caught up on all of Louis' books, after he (Louis) died. About midway in the first one, it hit me...HARD...that it was the first one Daddy and I had shared, back when I was still in high school. Fishing. Cooking. My dad would buy my mom gifts for HER, that they laughed about, because they both knew they were for HIM, yet what he did with them, later, was for her...like the very sharp knife he bought, along with a wonderful new cast iron skillet...for cutting perfectly-sliced ribbons of slab bacon, then cooking them to perfection in that pan, then serving her a fabulous breakfast for dinner after a long day of work. Also, I can never clean a fish without thinking of him and his mandates. "#1...Don't fish if you're not gonna eat 'em. #2...Don't fish if you don't plan to clean 'em & cook 'em yourself." He taught us how to do it all, then required it. I miss him. Both of my brothers and I used to always talk about our computers and how we built them (yes...we all have done so, over and over again, for many years, now). Gary and I talk more about the software. Frank and I always talked more about the hardware. The first time after he passed away (at age 54...the same age my father was when he went), that I needed help with something on a brand new motherboard, I automatically started to pick up the phone and call him, then broke down and cried for over an hour. Miss you, Frankie. My mom only passed away more recently. It was a bit easier with her. She was ready and waiting to go...didn't want to be here any longer...just wanted to be with her Lord and Savior. It was hard being with her during her final couple of days, but we all knew where she was going, and how happy she was going to be, forever. My oldest daughter downloaded a Shoji Tobuchi album for her, and played it for two entire days, before she took that trip, and we watched Mama smile, even though she couldn't do anything else. She had requested (and got) a memorial PICNIC at the lake, instead of anything solemn. We had a BLAST. We also had her music playing on two laptop computers at the picnic site. I cried the entire time I was making those videos. Nowadays, when I hear a REALLY good bluegrass violin playing (I listen to Shoji when I'm missing Mom)...yeah...I don't play her violin (I play other things, but not that), BUT...I gather all the kids and grandkids around, and sing "silly songs" learned at my mama's knees. Love you, Mama. Thank you for playing and reacting to this song. I love his voice, and he did a tremendous job, as you already so aptly pointed out. Going to go watch the other Lee Brice reaction that popped up when I loaded this one.

I absolutely love this song. I believe it was his brother because at one point he says "momma asked me if I'd been by your grave..." I lost my cousin, who was also my best friend and pseudo-sister almost 2 years ago to Cystic Fibrosis. I miss her every moment of every day, but when I walk into a library or a bookstore and the smell of books... it hits me more than standing at her headstone. It's crazy how our brains work isn't it? I'm new to your channel so if this is a song you've already listened to and/or reviewed I apologize. But you should do, Never Alone - by Jim Brickman and Lady Antebellum.

Hey Hillary, welcome to the fam!! I think you're right about it being his brother in the song. And I'm so sorry about the loss of your cousin--those losses never go away. We move on, but we're different. And yeah, it's amazing what makes us respond to things in life. I've learned that after the tragic event is past, it's the little things that we miss most, some of which we never knew meant so much to us. As for the song recs, I'll put that one on my list. I love Lady so I'll enjoy doing it for you.

I know that song well. It would be hard for me to review due to my love for someone who passed away who I was close with--it was her favorite song of Blake's, much to my surprise. I'll probably get to it at some point, though. I reviewed Chris Stapleton's "Broken Halos" a while back, and I had no idea it would make me think of Lindsay the way it did. But I got through it (had to wipe away a tear or two), so I'd be able to get through The Baby. Time will tell if I'm up for it.
