Hey actually we have to measure thickness with screw gauge & area with vernier as per my books can you explain reason behind it 5:08

@@_Editz4u its diameter is out of the range of screw gauge. And for very small thickness screw gauge is more accurate. As error in its thickness can alter the result significantly

hi...is it okay if i use hot plate as source of heat in this experiment? will i get the same results? i have problem to setup the steam chamber.

Yes hot plate is the source of hear but mainting it at a constant temperature is necessary for conducting this experiment. In some labs the top plate and the steam chamber are already connected. Over all. One hote plate as source and one plate dissipating heat to the environment is the key ok this experiment

That depends on the material. Check out the experiment file in the description and use those values for steel

What are the units of distances and masses?? And how much is the specific heat?

Choose SI units for distance (m) and mass(kg). Specific heat depends upon which metal you are using here. Steel brass or iron. You can google it or check out the lab report link given in the description.

Which bad conductor is used in this experiment?

It can be anything. You can use a cardboard or similar any material. even wood can be used. or any fiber like wood cotton cloth. So anything can be used... there is no specification.

Hello sir ... Why we take the mass and specific heat of bottom metal disc if we want to find out the thermal conductivity of bad conductor ...?

Because we have reached to a state when the heat passing through the bad conductor is being radiated to environment by the lower piece. And now it is in steady state. So its mass n specific heat helps us to calculate that. You can also Watch video on its viva voce questions.

during cooling , if we also remove the low conductivity disc from the top of lower disc, will it work? because, we are finding cooling rate of the lower metal disc only. why to put the bad conductor again ? please clarify.

I have discussed in viva question video. During experiment the heat is radiating to environment through lower plate only. And we want to repeat the same to find its thermal curve so we just remove the source. Removing bad cond. Disc will increase its surface area and it will rafiate faster which was not the case when steady state was achieved.

@@AllLabExperiments thanks. that is true. in some text books (by ghosh, mazumdar from sreedhar publisher; and chattopadhyay, rakshit from new central book agency) the expt was done by removing the bad conductor disc and they have introduced Bedford's correction term. the logic is, greatest source of error is from d \theta/dt. if we put the bad conductor sheet, the rate of cooling is low. thus more error. if no bad conductor on top of metal disc, rate of cooling is more. less error from cooling curve. as you pointed out correctly that the radiation of heat is from lower side only thus keeping the bad conductor on top during cooling is easier. thanks anyway for your kind reply.

I tried Lee disc experiment in our lab but... inlet pipe me stream to jenerate ho rhi hai lekin vo outlet tak nhi pahoch rhi.....jabki maine close water container ko 1 hour se jyada time tak heat kiya but fir bhi outlet me stream nhi aya ... Where is my mistake ??

Check water in the container. Is temperature hight enough to make steam. And finally check if outlet is not blocked or bent at some place
