Hi there, I saw your vid. I've been truck camping since the mid 80's. Here's what I've learned & I'll pass them on to you. 1) Get stuff you need at a camping store for backpacking. It's small, compact, & light weight. 2)Get splash guards for your truck. It'll help keep you & your rig clean. They work. I know. 3) When parking for the night, park headlong into the wind. That way if a storm comes you won't have to worry about a side wind ripping off your camper shell. Plus, if anything comes bouncing towards the truck, since you have a slimmer profile, it might miss you. If it does hit, the front of the truck is reinforced. 4) Use bug spray on the interior doors & windows/ screens openings to help keep bugs out. Use wasp & hornet spray around & on your tires to help keep critters out. Basically, all points of contact on the ground. 5) An inch is a lot of room. Learn how to stack & get used to sand & dirt. Use floor mats to put your shoes on too 6)Air out your sleeping area every morning or often. In an enclosed space the air gets stale. 7)Use a small fan to circulate the air in your sleeping area. This will help prevent hot & cold spots from forming & help prevent condensation & mold & mildew from forming. 8)Use a solid hooded sweatshirt. Draw the hood tight when you sleep to help encapsulate body heat. It can double as a pillow/ dirty clothes holder/ gear carrier etc. I hope this helps. Great vid, thanks for sharing. Drive safe. 🤠

I recently bought the Leer 122 for my truck camper set up. When I lift the door/window with rain water on the glass the water runs down the glass and onto the end of my mattress. A DAC tent looks like a possible solution, but I don't think it's tall enough to accommodate the extra height of the 122. Have you done anything with yours to keep the tailgate end of your truck bed dry?

That is a pretty nice looking setup there. I think it will serve you well. You could even add a port-a-potty if you decide you might want that too. Awesome, thanks for showing us around. I am looking forward to seeing it in action now. Have fun out there in the outdoors my friend.

I have a very similar setup, but in a 99 Toyota Tacoma (small body) My best addition was a small Wheel well wide bench that runs down the side. The front of the wheel well under it is electrical, and the back of the wheel well holds the tool box. Right behind the cab I have a battery box with a deep cycle isolated to the alternator. The battery box also supports the Cot at the front. On the bench shelf over the wheelwell, is just high enough for a 750W inverter, also mounts a surge protector with 5 outlets for direct electricity. This way I can charge phones, tablets, run 12 fans, 12v TV/monitor, Net book for movies, etc etc, and when power is available can do all the same on direct power. Having that little bit of flat surface made the entire system work. Heat: Coleman Blackcat Propane, Or small 700watt electric heater, OR finally, a Walmart 250 watt heater that can run off the inverter. Great $5 investment. Storage, are Store baskets under cot, and a Home Depot Wheeled 55gal tote that double as my outside step. Overall a great setup you have going!

That sounds like an awesome setup! Way more "long term" than mine! Sounds like we are using the same heat source, a small Coleman propane heater. Mine is an older model SportCat. I have also used a small 250 watt electric heater, but it really depletes my stored electricity in my Camo SportPac rapidly. But truck camping/overlanding is really fun, isn't it?! I am loving it. Thanks for watching, Thomas!

Man, I have a shitload of those little one-pounders, some as old as 2012! I would always buy them when they were on sale for $2.99, but I hated to use them and rarely did. However, I am hoping that all changes when I start re0-filling them. The filler valve was only about $10 and I also bought an inexpensive digital scale for about the same amount. The scale is used to check and see that you are not overfilling the cannisters.

I'm looking at a Leer 122 for my 2011 F150 with a 6.5ft bed. I'm about 5'8"...about how upright do you get when standing up inside? Also, do you go through car washes with the cap on, and have you found that it's too tall now?

Aw, darn it! I was just getting ready to release Part 4! It went a little something like this: Guy needs to load the back of his truck for a month long safari to Idaho, So guy opens tailgate. Guy opens LEER rear tailgate window. Guy unloads everything from inside the Micro Camper, and then replaces it with all kinds of different stuff. I'm telling you, this is the kind of filmmaking that the Oscars are all about!

@THEWILDLIFEOV

It has 52" of vertical space inside, so enough room to move around in a semi-hunched over position. But it's a whole lot more comfortable than crawling around on your hands and knees like you would in a standard truck cap!
