I've done a lot of acrylic pouring techniques but very rarely have I done the Dutch pour. After a few fails we definitely get some noteworthy results.
If you understand how fluid acrylic paints interact and the dynamics of the liquid paint, you really can do any pouring technique. It might takes some failures (the best way to learn) which I demonstrate here.

@leftbrainedartist Hi David, another valuable experiment for your audience! Dutch pours are so tricky…I’ve scraped loads of paint trying to get something halfway decent. Here’s what I’m learning… 1) I went bigger and that has helped (8x8, 10x10, or 12x12). 2) I also went a little less thin than Soby mixtures-I can’t yet control the travel speed of thinner paint. Using her consistency worksheet and Consistency Standard (CS), when the CS reaches the Test Line, I prefer my paint to be slightly above that first line (the line that demarcates the beginning of the optimal zone). 3) I use a lower-powered blow dryer (1000 watts) on low for now-it “slows the game down” while I’m still learning. 4) To compensate for my blowout cell-making inadequacies, I use the Shelee bloom trick-a drizzle of cell activator mix (in any high density color I like) as the last layer. But I’m a super newbie and I’m just trying all kinds of stuff to figure it all out, so I really have no idea what I’m doing 🤣

YW as always Paula. I agree. I never thought I could do pouring and when I first started I just wanted to give up cause I couldn't recreate what others were creating. I realized that I just had to start basic and change what I did little by little until I got the results I was hoping for, or some that I didn't but loved equally as much.

Four blows and you are done. I can’t blow for the life of me. First time I tried, my teeth fell into the paint so of course I am discouraged but thought I would give it another shot. This time I tried without the teeth and it still didn’t work out. Guess that’s just not for me🇨🇦

Hi thanks for showing us your results and what you learned. I’ve been doing Dutch pours for months now. Some good results and a lot of bad. I think on small surfaces less is definitely more and you got that right here but I’d blow softer you can get nice effects. In my personal life, I love silver. I only wear silver jewelry, I have an industrial style of decorating my home with a lot of silver metal pieces, but I am never really happy with it in my fluid paintings. It’s been hard for me to accept, but gold, copper and bronze just turn out better. It’s nice to hear someone else wasn’t totally happy with silver. 👍🏻 You did a fab job for not much experience with Dutch pours. You definitely paid attention to Rinske.

@@LeftBrainedArtist Silver as à base is a great idea! I might try that. I also bought various silver micas to add. I’m determined to make something silver work so I can keep my theme. I just got an iridescent blue-black from Pebeo that I hope helps make the silver play better with my blues.

I did a 4 x 2 inch set of 4 paintings. I used silver gold black and white. With black as the back ground of 2 and white back ground of the other 2. But I put about a fifty cent size pile of paint in the center. And I used the 3 remaining colors in each. But I used a bended straw to make the blow more deliberate. And I blew in 4 different directions. I got a really cool effect. Almost looking like a flower.

I just got all my stuff and nailed a galaxy and a free hand swipe first try- first pours! Just did what made sense, using everything I largened here, Jmo, and a few others regarding tech and tact. They look so good. I used 1 part paint, 1 part luiqetex, and one part glue - with silocone in colors and small amounts of black and white between dard and light colors. I'm using sergeant arts paint that are known for not mixing and I leaned o that to make sure I didn't get mud. didn't mix at all realy so I got cells in cells and white and black multi collored cells in cells right next to perfect strands and lacing like craxy on my swipe. I agree with Colleen. I tried pearl cells and finally got a reaction on my 4th attempt. Not good but at least something. Yesterday, I was trying blooms. I have the first three or four failures behind me, haha 😄. Each try teaches me and I keep going until I'm satisfied. I may go back to swipes and balloon kisses for a while so I can have some success, but I will try. Expect to fail for a while and learn from your mistakes

I like lots of lacing and that is what that does' it also mutes the colors to give you a softer look. If you want more deep colors you don't have to blow over. FYI, I think anyone can do pouring with a little patience and attention to detail. Glad you are loving it too Karen.

Cells happen because of the densities of paints. As long as you know you’re using a heavy paint with the light paint and the heavy paint is on top you can force cells to create. Pouring mediums just make it a little easier because they have their own properties to cause cells.

I have a video about that. Ever paint will be different so it isn't as easy as just giving a ratio. If you are using paint and water you never want to go above about a 60/40 split (paint/water) though so you don't ruin that bonding between the acrylic molecules which will lead to cracking, crazing and quicker fading.
