The clay pot with the lid is a classic Römertopf (Roman pot). It was a big trend in the 1970s on. You baked things in it-chicken, pot roast, bread. There are whole books of Römertopf recipes. The principle is similar to that of a slow cooker except in the oven.

Didn't you have to soak it in water before you put it in the oven? I think my mom had one and made roast in it. Definitely 70s.

We just called it a clay baker and you do have to soak it in water for about an hour or more. Great for a whole chicken, or meatloaf.

Last summer my husband found one in our yard, brand new looking with the book in it and all!😳 No idea where it came from! 🤷‍♀️ I still have it.😂 When life gives you a clay baker, roast a chicken, right? 🤣

A nice little thing my mom taught me was to buy all the beautiful one off vintage pretty plates and when you go to somebody’s house, you bring them a goody on it and let them keep the plate as a gift. She had someone invite her over for dinner once a week because they wanted the full set of something lol

I have never been to a Goodwill or even seen the inside of one as I’m from UTAH county. We just have like Deseret industries, thrift stores through the Mormon church and we used to have the salvation Army years ago but I haven’t seen one of those in years and then just odd and thrift store stores that pop up…so this has been really fun to watch and see what Goodwill actually looks like inside. Thank you so much for sharing.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

I just did this when I finally found the perfect decanter for the bathroom. I didn't want it to be too heavy and certainly not lead crystal, but not a cheap looking Arcoroc one, either. When my son saw it he commented that it made the bathroom look so tidy and fancy. $5 well spent. (well 50 Norwegian kroners.. but same same)

The music figurine from Japan is not German related. It was Tevye from the movie Fiddler On The Roof. He is standing by a milk can ( he was a dairy farmer ) and singing the song "If I Were a Rich Man". The movie was from the 70's and I believe that is when the figurine was dated.

The name of that clay thing is Römertopf. I have one and I LOVE it! You drench the thing in water for half an hour, put your veggies and meat/fish in it, and in the oven that goes. No grease added. You can see what you can cook in it... actually on it! It's best for meats that tend to be a bit dry, like turkey. Yours is not very big, but it's a nice starting point to try ou stuff

The clay pot from Germany is called Römertopf( Roman pot). It is used for cooking meat, fish, vegetables... in the oven. Before usage the pot has to be watered. When heated steam will build up and cook the food.

That clay roster is a Schlemmertopf ( clay roasting pot from Germany) … my Mum had one … made the best roast chicken and potatoes 👌 Had to be soaked in water before using each time ❤ great memories for me … thanks for sharing

The german terra cotta piece is actually called a Romertopf which you can use to cook a whole chicken in. It roasts it in the clay and makes an amazing meal. We use ours all the time. Just be sure to soak it in water for about 30 minutes before use. It keeps the clay from cracking and keeps the interior sealed and moist. You can bake bread in it as well.

I believe the figurine on 17:43 is Tevieh the milkman. He’s the main character from Fiddler on the Roof. He dances shaking his arms up like that. I love that movie!

I was raving about you to my gf at lunch today and said after I get my passport lets go down and thrift the costco of thrift stores..Goodwill! So hoping one day in the future I will be in your neck of the woods! I look on the bottom of things more and more and am learning as I go down the google rabbit hole myself at times. I just love all the knowledge you impart to us because you have put in the hard graft and learned through going out and immersing yourself in all things vintage and seeing the value and finding it somewhere else for less! I love your enthusiasm and your quirky loves! 🤩💗

That clay covered baker is called a romertopff. It's good for baking with moist heat. It is soaked in water before it's used. Very popular in the late 70's.
