LegacyBox review: "I sent in my irreplaceable tapes and videos over 4 months ago. They never communicate or respond to emails or voicemails. If you choose the callback option they never call you back. It says 10-12 weeks on the worst case to transfer and return materials... No pre inspection of the tapes was done and of course they charged me 100s of dollars for blank videos..."

I was just about to send my 29 miniDv tapes to Legacy...but then saw your video! Thanks so much for sharing and sorry you had to go thru all that crap! Appreciate the info. I'm moving on...

With mini DV tapes in particular sending them to Gotmemories is a bad idea also. I know he has a bunch of videos online but mini dv should be done through firewire. Got memories used an elgato capture card. Horrible idea for mini dv.

Thank you so much for posting this video. You probably saved me thousands of dollars. I’m going to find a real professional company that actually edited and enhances the quality you’re right these are priceless family heirlooms. I don’t care if it cost me $5000 to save them all, it’s worth it

I entrusted Legacybox with digitizing my good quality MiniDV tapes. They came back after a while, and the quality is appalling. I suspect they do not use the Firewire transfer, but instead a cheap RCA connector. Not only that, one of my tapes came back with that red sticker, and the protective flip cover completely in pieces, INSIDE the box. The original sticker with the number was also damaged, and the case was missing. I can only assume that they had a careless employee destroy the tape. The frustrating part however is that they keep claiming that they cannot digitize it, yet when I put the tape in my still functional 25 year old Panasonic DV-Camcorder, it plays back just fine.

Of course they don’t use a FireWire. I think they have stacks of VCRs and they just burn everything to dvd then rip the dvd later. That would explain a lot. I doubt that they have a capture card and a computer for each transfer. That’s definitely the cheapest way to do it. A lot of places don’t use a FireWire. Gotmemories doesn’t use a FireWire either and he says why.

@@duncanmacleod2136 are you saying they are using those old direct-to-disc DVD recorders that encode/burn in real time? Which in my experience were always terrible compared to capturing properly first, software encoding at the highest quality setting and then burning? Yeah...that would explain why the quality is bad and how they can charge $8 per tape. If I transferred everything in real time the process would be much faster but the videos would look bad. I couldn't do that, knowing there is a better method to preserve people's home videos!

@@FreedomForMaryland got memories thinks they do that and he redoes there jobs on his KZfaq channel. His quality is bad too but it looks great compared to legacy box. He uses an elgato and elgato software. That just seems like he is right when I watch this review. It makes sense but idk. The employees would know. I wonder what ex employees say

You could not have said it any better!! I just received my digital copies of media I sent them over 3 months ago and I could not be more disappointed! I wish I would have seen your KZfaq review before I wasted my money with them!!!!!!!!!

Thanks alot everyone watching the video did discourage me so good job part way I wondered - is this Dude like this with lots a places and just an unsatisfied customer in general ? But in the end , I took the advice and stayed away & I Thank You. To the Future

Test their system? Naaa, they'll claim entrapment. The BBB? Naaa, you contact the FTC with bad business practices. It's a toll free call and they'll get your cash back or start an investigation.

I wish I had seen this video before I got involved with this. I sent in 50 items and they said they were only able to process 10. They didn't refund me a penny of my money for doing absolutely nothing.

Horrible service from this Company!! Returned all of my 9 video tapes saying all of them were either damaged ( no damage whatsoever), or environmental factors. They were all properly taken care of for decades! AND they didn't return 10 photos that i sent and ignored my emails stateing as such! Irreplaceable photos from the 1940's and 50's. 😢

I ordered copies of 18 tapes in January 2023 - received the links to the digital files in February. The copies were TERRIBLE. I could have done better myself. Then, I just received a bill on my credit card for "another year of backup" for $79.00...the order was placed in January and why are they already billing me for another year. I went online and canceled the account. Hope they don't keep trying to bill me. Warning;::::::: stay away from them! (BTW - the moment I canceled my account, the digital files were ERASED from their website, not even giving me the remaining time that should still be available.

Is Sean Hannity still pushing this company on his show? I almost sent them some old VCR tapes but after reading this and a few other reviews I'm not going to do it. Better to rent the equipment and get some knowledgeable college kid to do it.

I wish i had seen your video before I sent my tapes to Legacy Box!!! i got my tapes back but the dvds they sent were terrible!! they taped them over old movies!! i got to watch Star Trek!!! one tape was blank!!!over 200.00 down the drain!!!

I wish I had seen this video first! AVOID THIS COMPANY! WHAT A RIP! Paid $$$ to get vhs to digital download, cannot find them a year later on google drive . No response from them on hold for 40 minutes. No response through the texting service. And I paid an extra $$ to have my files on their cloud backup but even though it shows they have my files There is NO way to download them again PURE RIP OFF

I had same thing happen. Slide DVD sent back blank. One DVD had a warning of “ clean VHS buffer head “ appear every 10 seconds. My VHS tape was fine, it was their equipment that needed to be fixed. 9 DVD’s were blank sent back. You will get a daily update on their 16 week process. Why? The quality received was awful. I bought the year package to watch my content in January. Today was billed for another year. Emailed customer service and was sent back a blunt this is what you need to do for a refund. And, upon receipt my service will terminate. I still have 8 months left on year one. WARNING: the slick advertising they use is just that-SLICK. Looks so nice that’s why I chose this company. Don’t fall for it!!!!!

Just buy some used equipment, do it yourself, then when you're done, sell the equipment to someone else who needs it.

They also had your media so long that you couldn't get your credit card company to get your money back. This is done deliberately. Also on people that have film and your film has sound. They don't do sound. But you will never know that your film does have sound. Also you can send let's say, 20 tapes. If you have even 1 tape that won't play on all of the 20 tapes you will get a red sticker on all 20 tapes saying there all defective. And you will not get a refund. All these big box companies are owned by the same company. Yes, you have a local company or a reputable company to transfer your tapes and films. I do this for a living. I DO NOT CHARGE UP FRONT. I transfer first to make sure all is goes. Do Google reviews before you send in anything to any company.
