i would say that being in a survival show and actually debuted as a kpop idol in a group is different story. It’s okay if you’re lacking in a survival show. In her case is her voice sounds nasally, the same goes for Hitomi. I felt like it’s okay to be a main vocalist or a lead vocalist when the situation puts you into one like in the show. So she was able to show her vocal because of that and people would appreciate it because even though she struggles she pulled it off at the end and recieve good score. They know the story and I think people were also underrated Japanese trainees for being lack of talent. Her highnote was awesome but to some people it’s like a wow factor like omg she can do that, great for her. Something like that. Koreans kinda value achievement afterhard efforts and they are willing to look over her voice being nasal in the show. But I think when you are actually the idol, you can’t. People especially Koreans consider nasal voice as unpleasant meaning that an idol voice being nasal is kind of a flaw to her, many rude knetz would comment something like “is there something wrong with her voice?” - “no one wants to hear her voice” etc. I think that’s why despite being a good vocalist, she doesn’t get a lot of line in title tracks. I know it makes no sense but some knetz are just really mean towards foreigners. Some idols were called out for not being able to pronunce korean good enough. After that she got so little part that sound more like harmonising and not saying a word the whole song.
