I love the critics' consensus for this movie on Rotten Tomatoes: "Zorro can survive a lot of things, but it looks like he can't survive marriage."
@nkbujvytcygvujno6006
@nkbujvytcygvujno6006 5 жыл бұрын
Geoff Jacobs Yeah, and marriage only sucks if the relationship is unhealthy somehow. But Legend of Zorro falls into the depressing trope of man-freaks-out-and-abandons-wife-over-problem-that-could-be-easily-talked-out. So, Zorro, you want to look like an idiot, too?
@Lucios1995

I went on HBO Max to see if Mask of Zorro was there and I read the Legend of Zorro description: "Alejandro de la Vega has spent the past few years fighting injustice as Zorro, but now he has to face one of his greatest challenges: A crisis in his marriage with Elena."
@timothycarney9652
@timothycarney9652 Жыл бұрын
@@nkbujvytcygvujno6006 Lets be fair, Alejandro is being an idiot with his extended drunken moping, but Elena going along with the pinkertons without any attempts to explain things, and then taking her own potshots at him while sucking up to the most pretentious person in California, doesn't do her any favors. Also as the critic said, the Pinkertons' (who while it doesn't come up in the review, were killed off screen and we were only shown the bodies, so the bad guys figured them out at some unspecified point) plan makes no sense. I I mean Elena is a badass, and perfect for the mission skill wise, but they didn't know that. None of her awesome moments are common knowledge and they blackmailed her litterally the day after finding out Zorro's identity, which only raises questions, why were they spying on him if they weren't going to blackmail HIM or something. Instead they force a woman, who's skills they have no reasonable way of knowing about, who is married with a kid, to seduce and spy on the local leader of an extensive conspiracy. The Marriage wasn't the problem, the problem was a forced out of nowhere made up relationship conflict. Yes Elena wanted Alejandro to spend more time with their son, and apparently they had been going on about such things enough for Alejandro to buy that as the reason for the divorce, but I would have enjoyed a movie about Zorro and his family, and balancing those relationships along with the greater plot far more than the movie we got, where they only spend about 10 minutes as a family and the rest separated and mostly doing their own things. Imagine if the divorce wasn't part of the plan and the pinkertons forced the whole family into the plot- force Alejandro to bruce wayne it up to give Elena chances to sneak around, or her covering for him to go off as Zorro. Instead the family issues could focus on the kid, like Elena was worried about, as they try to be good parents while increasingly forced to be busy with the plot. Heck then you can get the kid to run into Zorro more often, you could end up with a dynamic where Alejandro takes an opportunity or two to be there for his son as Zorro in passing- where the son would understand that Zorro is busy while being ignorant to why is father is never around- making the reveal more poignant. Tone down the slapstick and give the villians more chances to be competant and or scary and that would go a long way to fixing the film.

Fun fact: In the original zorro film staring Antonio bandaras and Catherine Zeta-Jones, in the stable while he was grooming the horse, she admitted to being rather surprised by the suddenly very erect horse giving her it's full attention . Actually it was the Mark of Zorro, not Mask, which didn't exist at the time Batman was created. But Mask was basically a remake/sort-of-sequel of Mark (both were origin stories but Mark was for Don Diego De La Vega, the original Zorro, and Mask was his retirement and succession by Banderez' character). But yeah- Batman was inspired by Zorro both in real life and in-universe.

Old comment but it was a coincidence. Terry's origin was an amalgamation of all three Robin's. Dick=kid who's parents are offed by a crime boss and wants revenge. Jason=kid who is a trouble maker. Tim=Kid who has living family and seeks out Batman to be a hero.

This sequel really did hurt, because the first one was just so damn good. It truly was the perfect summer blockbuster adventure. Perfectly balanced with light heartiness and dark/gritty reality. A beautiful blend of action, adventure, romance, and comedy. A stellar cast that really brought the characters and story to life, with Catherine Zeta-Jones at the peak of her beauty. No CGI whatsoever with the action fully carried with amazing stunts, great swashbuckling sword fighting and impressive practical effects. It was a perfect action/adventure film that still holds up to this day with its 90s charm.

I know this is an old comment, but I don't think the legal ludicrousness was the divorce per se, but casual divorce. A woman at the time would (depending on her location) basically have to prove to a court that her husband was abusive, adulterous, a felon, a drunk, impotent, or had abandoned her. It was sure to be a messy process that would damage reputations even apart from the divorce itself.

But instead of a divorce you would have to get an annulment (which would of course come with a hefty donation for the church). They weren't common place but weren't unheard of either. And it wasn't unheard of for women to ask for an annulment, as women (un-surprising for anybody that has read a history book) were also not unheard of to be land owners. Captain out.

And if I remember correctly women could also get an annulment if the husbands dick didn't work, since marriages were mostly just about makin babies and establishing a family the husband was bound to care for. There's some other BS about not conceiving a child within a certain amount of time, but I don't remember the specifics of it.

Hi, Phil Swift here with Flex Tape! The super-strong waterproof tape! That can instantly patch, bond, seal, and repair! Flex tape is no ordinary tape; its triple thick adhesive virtually welds itself to the surface, instantly stopping the toughest leaks. Leaky pipes can cause major damage, but Flex Tape grips on tight and bonds instantly! Plus, Flex Tape’s powerful adhesive is so strong, it even works underwater! Now you can repair leaks in pools and spas in water without draining them! Flex Tape is perfect for marine, campers and RVs! Flex Tape is super strong, and once it's on, it holds on tight! And for emergency auto repair, Flex Tape keeps its grip, even in the toughest conditions! Big storms can cause big damage, but Flex Tape comes super wide, so you can easily patch large holes. To show the power of Flex Tape, I sawed this boat in half! And repaired it with only Flex Tape! Not only does Flex Tape’s powerful adhesive hold the boat together, but it creates a super strong water tight seal, so the inside is completly dry! Yee-doggy! Just cut, peel, stick and seal! Imagine everything you can do with the power of Flex Tape!

What's wrong with Zorro having to be saved by his son? I know he's supposed to be the hero, but he had to get his son to break him out because he couldn't do it himself. There are times when the hero has to call on others for help. That doesn't make them weak or anything. It just shows that they acknowledge when they can't do it alone.

Some people may have also mentioned it but divorce was possible for the rich, such as for dons like Alejandro, during 1850 and so this is actually an accurate portrayal. Also, I am of the opinion that this movie had good ideas poorly executed, nothing more. Think about this movie on paper. 1. Alejandro has trouble letting go of being Zorro. Done well, that could have been interesting. 2. There is a mysterious organization is trying to stop the admission of California into the United States. That definitely could have worked. 3. There is a villain for hire who twists religious phrases to support his cruel actions and mocks his victims by saying the phrases to them before killing them. That could be intriguing. 4. Zorro's family gets mixed up in this conspiracy naturally and he must choose to put his family first, "My family is my life." That was actually a good line from this movie! And perhaps Elena has to rescue Joaquin while Zorro is on the trail of the villain. 5. There are American agents that are trying to stop the sabotage of statehood and end up finding out who Zorro is and collaborating with him, maybe using Elena as a distraction so they can sneak into the villains house. There were good ideas in here that, had they been handled seriously, could have raised this movie from bad to at least passable and possibly good. Heck, McGivens could have been INTIMIDATING if someone else had been cast or if this guy had been directed seriously. I really believe that he could have been a good villain but I am sure he was told to act the way he did. I look at these points and I think to myself, "Wow, there are some good conceptual ideas here. All we need to do is get someone to direct this as an epic adventure like the last movie." Unfortunately, that didn't happen but that is why I consider the movie to be not good but I can't call it awful or terrible. Anyone agree? If not, thanks for reading anyway.

What should we have him do for the rest of his career?" "I don't know, Dave... Maybe have him become a drunken recluse who leaves Gotham City to the fear-gassed inmates of Arkham Asylum. Hezekiah Bennetts That's not the same thing at all. The reason Bruce stopped being Batman is spelled out in one line of dialogue "The Batman wasn't needed anymore, We won" He didn't abandon Gotham when it still needed him, He simply achieved what he set out to do, provided a symbol to shake Gotham out of apathy, He never set out to be Batman for the rest of his life in that series. The lie about Harvey Dent needed to have a concrete result of some sort or else, What would have been the point?
