Legend Debbie Reynolds introduces Legend Gene Kelly in a 1993 TV special

I noticed Debbie Reynolds only says nice things about people who were not very nice to her. Like her friend Elizabeth Taylor who stole her husband away leaving her with two babies to feed. And Gene Kelly who left her in tears as a young 19-year-old girl trying to keep up with him. It takes a top notch person to have those kind of qualities!

He did acknowledge it, he apologized and said he didn’t know why she still spoke to him. But this is a quote from her book Unsinkable: “After that, Gene and I became friends. With the help of the MGM teachers, he transformed an untrained high school girl into a dancer. In the early ’70s, Gene came to see me when I was starring in Irene, my first time ever on Broadway. After the show, he came backstage, hugged me, told me how proud he was of me, and kissed me-no tongue-in front of the bedazzled cast. I was so moved, I cried. Gene made me a stronger performer who faces every challenge head on-and with a “Smile!”

Rather the opposite. Debbie wrote unflattering things about Gene after he died, of course. He never said a public negative word about any of his costars. He was a class act.

Gene Kelly made her a star. I wish somebody would have made me cry at nineteen.

@@susanlloyd7395 I just included the quote from her book to show, contrary to popular opinion, their relationship (by her own admission) wasn’t entirely negative. Her negative comments about him always received far more media attention. A sweet story about his praise bringing tears to her eyes didn’t play as well as “what a horrible man.” But I never said they were best friends. And he never responded negatively to other people’s negative comments about him.

SWEEET LORD! How fortunate you truly are! She is the one thing that keeps me smilin’ and hopefull these days. She seems to have been an exceptional and amazing person. Even despite the hardships in her life, she always looked on the bright✨side and never gave up. Definitely such a beautiful soul💫Each day when watching clips of her I wish I could’ve seen her while she was still here. And I actually got a little “bent” here when I saw they did a standing O for Jean but not her. I guess I’m biased. Ha Ha. Bottom line, you are truly so blessed to have had her as a part of your life. Much love and aloha to you and yours~•♥️✨🌺

I'm 63 and hearing "Tammy" reminds me of when I was little - that song was my favourite and my mum and I used to sing it in harmony. Debbie has always been one of my favourites. I grew up watching and loving musicals. I love Gene Kelly - what a hunk!!

I think about how young, beautiful and talented they were and to see them now in their senior years it’s so sad to me but, I bet if they had to sing and dance they would be a little off but they would do it gracefully. I miss these caliber of entertainers but I am extremely happen I was around to enjoy them and their incredible talents! Thank you and God bless!!

I love Debbie Reynolds. She was such a versatile actress/singer/dancer, and her piquant wit was exceptional. I resent the fact that the media gave Carrie Fisher so many accolades as being a great actress upon her death when her only claim to fame is Star Wars. They gave her mom very little air time when she died. Her mom's longevity in the movie profession should be praised and given much notoriety for her excellent contribution to the movie industry.

Carrie was more than just an actor, though. She was an author of several books, a screenwriter and script doctor (one of the most prolific in Hollywood), a comedian and an advocate for mental health and drug addiction, something she battled with her entire life. She was a hero to many for more than just Star Wars.

Sou Cleuma Goulart . Homenagem merecida!!!! Maravilhoso vê-lo dançar! Faz este momento COVID 19 tão trágico me sentir melhor.

Almost all Debbie's partners were better dancers, but she was a trier and a sweetheart, so it never seemed to matter. Like Ginger, the sight of her gamely striving in partnered dances was endearing. She was the 1950s equivalent of Ruby Keeler, and affection for her was reinforced by the Taylor-Fisher imbroglio at a time when musicals were dying and her intrinsic attraction on the big screen might have faded as fast as Mitzi Gaynor's or Ann Miller's. Debbie should also be saluted for her knowledge and appreciation of her heritage. No star did more to rescue artefacts of Tinseltown past when the studio system cracked up.

I agree Ms. Reynolds certainly deserved a standing ovation. Mr. Kelly was very fragile here at 84 yrs old. Looked like he had had a stroke; he had been helped to the podium behind the scenes, and we did lose him in 1996.

Our wonderful artists In the long cold and dark winter.days in Norway in the 1950-60th it was as beeing in Paradise..to see all these wonderful movies from America Gods own Country..as my uncle said it. He was a seeman/waiter on board on Norw/America Line at that time. Me myself went in the following days in Oslo..in a STARSTRUCK-TRANCE....I feel that I went on these ways for Years. I was little and thin and ate very little..my family was in despair. But I was Happy...who needed food when the soul and spirit was like in a dream. These movies was my food. Oh oh.. Well I got hard awaked as 25 yrs old. A Gods awakening to be a Christian and to dream of Jesus Christ. That helped. I was awaked for other things...but interessting to look back . .Hello..one cannot go around and dream of movies all time. The world are too hard and serious for that...... Interessting experience in life..

@MrMige2000
@MrMige2000 3 жыл бұрын
