Great video! I’m so happy that FaB is losing the “too expensive to play” stigma that it had around a year ago. In the early days of my old LGS, our first Armory was won with a $7 Katsu deck. With the power at Common and Rare being so balanced, it’s more than possible to compete with a hero on a budget and build your financial commitment over time if you feel comfortable to do so 🙂

This is a great argument, but some heroes are day and night with legendaries (looking at freaking New horizon). I love my Prism deck because her most OP thing (Luminaris) is a magestic so it is way cheaper than any other game changing cards :D great to see close to 2k btw, I joined when we were like 600 and it's great to see the channel growing

Some equipment I feel is so class defining it’s really hard to have a “good enough” even budget replacement. Mask of momentum is one, if you’re playing mask of the pouncing lynx instead you are threatening a combo turn every turn until you pop it, but then that should be your one and done finisher, and you’d just do it on the first connect. But mask of momentum provides so much card advantage thru a game it’s unreal. That being said, some heroes are certainly very cheap (hi dash!) and they work amazingly with just cheap shit.
@Sloopdoop

There are definitely some classes that don't quite have the best budget replacements yet, but I think in time it'll even out. But again, playing on a budget you ARE going to have to make sacrifices. This is inevitable with every game
@dotjn5
@dotjn5 2 жыл бұрын
For Blitz I've been using Lynx over Momentum because it's more consistent. Like you said, every turn my opponent is like should I block this Phoenix flame, what if I don't, what is he going to fetch? Especially in Fai.

can confirm that budget friendly is an understatement you can easily make smooth running decks that are pretty strong vs other budget builds. Even the newer blitz precons are pretty good being like $15 dollars can get you a decent deck lol the expensive part is cracking packs for legendaries and expensive majestics
@kertanos
@kertanos 2 жыл бұрын
I would also add that since you only need a few card to go from budget to competitive deck, it's easy to have someone of your community lend you a card or two, especially equipment since they won't go in deck so you can keep whatever protection they use. I myself opened a lot of boxes, and opened 4 tunic, 3 mask of momentum, 3 skullcap, and i gladly lend them to new players in tournament i was in. Most of them ended up buying the card when they where hooked on the game, and the ones that didn't want to invest are still playing because other players are happy to have them play to full power with lent cards

What frustrates me about MTG are the lands... Those dual lands, shock lands, fetch lands etc. don't really add anything interesting or flavourful into the game. They only fix the game mechanics issue of mana-based system.
@100legodude
@100legodude 6 ай бұрын
The mana system is how it is by design. Playing a bunch of colours in the same deck is supposed to make your mana less consistent. That’s the trade-off for getting access to a wider variety of cards. Shocks/fetches/duals break that intended drawback.

If someone is really interested in commoner, they should buy bulk for the sets that have the cards for their class. This may seem more expensive up front, but they would be able to pivot into a variety of deck builds. I just wish I could convince my LGS to run commoner.

Your forgot to add that once you have those "expensive generic staples", you can use them in pretty much all decks. So once you spent for your Command and Conquers, Fyendal's Spring Tunic and/or Arcanite Skullcap, the next deck you build can use them and don't have to spend again! =)

Can vouch budget friendly. Recently ordered Prism Blitz deck with some singles to get started. It’s so funny I happened to pick out the legendary card subs you suggested. About $70 total. This game is so hype.

I enjoy putting decklists into tcg player and changing out a few cards to see the price drop by more than half. On that note it really shows just how good the cards that cost a lot actually are. Exceptions being fabled that are expensive more due to rarity rather than playability.

The legendaries are not necessary, but definitely contributes to some of the wins in the game. However I do agree we shouldn’t be spending anything crazy on something that is “one off” use in a game when there are other options that are close

Playing competetive always is expensive, no matter the game. Heck no matter the area. What I love about FaB is, that you can basically get the full class experience even without tons of mythics. Rares and Commons already give you the feeling of what each Hero does, and thats amazing.

can we talk about how budget friendly fai is? He has a reasonably competitive list that uses entirely common equipment. and only has the L equipment as a sideboard against control decks, haha. not to mention its comprised almost entirely of uprising cards which as very cheap on the market right now, and the most expensive mainboard card is AoW, which im sure could just be omitted if you wanted to keep it really cheap.

removing the legendaries, the list was $180 on tcgplayer. ommiting the art of wars brings it down another $88 to sub $100.

@@Sloopdoop I did watch that video, was a great video, but I personally disagree with removing salt the wounds for the "scaled up" version. That card is pure gas. Haha Rupture a Lava burst, snap dragons, search salt the wound off mask and swing another like 6-8 for 0. So good.

(LMAO nevermind you somewhat addressed this in the video, I just typed this out like right you got to that point. I'm going to still post this for informational purposes if anyone is curious but solid production and points about the game playing better so the slightly higher price may be justified. Excited to try out FaB) You are over pricing competitive Yugioh decks in this video. (however I do understand that this video is a year old at this point and prices will fluctuate so I'll give an updated pricing range for those curious.) The most expensive decklist at the world championships was $500 and that is them maxing rarities, most but not all meta comp Yugioh decks are going to run you $150-$300 (INCLUDING generic staples) tops if you aren't maxing rarities. So you can actually build an entire meta comp Yugioh deck for the price of 2-3 Command and Conquers. But of course this all comes at the cost of your sanity as you have to sit through 15 minute turns of pure combos.

Avoid the cost problem entirely and just play commoner. “So much more fun” -My Wallet In all seriousness, FaB is wonderfully designed in such a way that you can play a weaker version of the legendary card and still have a mostly functional deck. (Albeit, Rangers definitely should get the second Arsenal slot piece, they really need it)

Currently trying to get into FaB, got the dromei blitz deck and bought some cards to make it a somewhat reasonable deck (the invoke dragon cards and similar, no legendaries nor Command and conquer), it cost me like 18 bucks, 22 after shipping here in germany. I kinda laughed, threw in some sleeves and a deckbox (since the place i play at doesnt seem to have them) and in the end it was like ~35 bucks. and that is not just a decklist, i basically bought everything i found i would need for a first commoner variant, what was suggested for upgrades of the blitz deck and what other people run. Only thing i didnt get immediately was the third copy of everything for full on classic, but if i would want that, i assume it will be like 10 bucks or something. The price completely positively shocked me. That said, if the price would have been close to Magic prices, i would not have touched competetive FaB period. It was one of (not the only) the main reasons i only played pauper(commoner) in magic in a tournament setting.

Pretty bad faith argument to replace all the expensive FAB cards with "budget" alternatives. As if you couldn't do the exact same thing with most/all of the MTG/YGO decks you are comparing to as well and spend pennies on the dollar. The big elephant in the room here is that "casual" FAB isn't popular. It isn't meant to be. The whole product is based around competitive. And competitive players do not like using budget alternatives. I know I didn't. And the pros don't either. You act like spending 1k+ on MTG/YGO is the only option. Its not. Its not even the popular option--as it is for FAB. Commander/Arena are MUCH more popular than modern and you can play either for a fraction of that cost and there will be THOUSANDS of other players. You make a big deal about a 195$ deck, when you could spend half of that on a decent MTG commander deck AND easily be able to find a commander play group to actually play it against in most areas. Good luck finding a FAB group that will all agree to go budget/casual and not always have the advantage against you with their thousands of dollars of legendaries. I was really excited about the possibility of FAB, but their stances on it being tunneled on competitive while also curating extremely expensive legendaries via artificial scarcity are just as scummy as the greedy shit WOTC does, so don't fool yourself into thinking they wouldn't be any better if they got mainstream.

Also think FaB should probably be compared to Standard rather than Modern when it comes to cards available. Standard is a lot cheaper than Modern.

The legendary cards are the cheapest they have ever been at this point. Every TCG has its chase cards. MTG happens to use lands and EDH staples. Since FaB has no lands they just use the legendary equipment instead. They need something to stabilize the box prices and the secondary market for singles.

"Budged" 200 Dollars? You can get a fine flunder deck for 80 (Without Advent and Prosperity), a Tier 2 D-Reaper deck for 20 in DigimonTCG or Tier 1 deck for 50 (Xcross), a commander Tier 1,5 deck for 80. A Goat format Tier 1 deck for 50. I came here for the best Budged TCG and my disappointment is immeasurable.
