A bit of discussion on the points that I feel make Flesh and Blood a more fun game to play than Magic the Gathering.

I switched to Fab two years ago and it was the best decision I've made in my gaming career. I sold all my MTG cards of value to buy boxes of the first two FaB sets. I immediately fell in love with the mechanics and variety of gameplay the different heroes provide.

Big agree. Played FaB since a year after it's inception and have nearly transitioned completely from MTG to FaB since. I prefer the game of FaB to a Commander game just about 9 times out of 10. The only thing FaB needs is a wider player base of non competitive players and a more casual format to keep them engaged. I believe that is on the horizon for FaB as early as 2023 so I'll be continuing to give Legend Story Studios my hard earned money and telling Wizards to go pound sand.

Definitely agree with a lot of your points! Although I am perfectly okay with legendary cards costing as much as they do. As you mentioned you only need one of them and a lot of them can be played across multiple different decks. More importantly is that they do have substitutions at lower rarities for a lot of those cards which makes a lot of more budget versions viable. LSS still let you play a non-legendary deck without feeling like it's incomplete. The main reason I am okay with legendaries is that they keep FaB alive. Certainly you have people chasing rare cold foils but a legendary only appearing in every four boxes means people are still going to buy the product which means legend story studios has more capital to keep making the game. And with their current trajectory if I invest into a deck with a hero that isn't as mainstream I'll l likely be able to play with that hero competitively for years to come. :) Love your commoner videos by the way, thank you for those fun deck ideas!

I agree, legendary cards are good at their current price point. Despite what some may say, people do not need them unless they're trying to win competitive sanctioned events. If you just want to jam some games with a friend or get the crew together for Ultimate Pit Fight, they're an unnecessary but helpful bonus.

I play Magic and FaB only Kitchen tabletop style, where its usually only one or two games in a row. In this case Magics manascrew is a real issue and FaB just doesn't have this problem. So currently I greatly prefer my FaB blitz decks over my Magic Jumpstart 10x booster set.

Great arguments, to be honest I'm enjoying FaB more and more. Playing MTG since 1995, FaB just bring me back the thrill of a good old fashioned TCG without all the bs Magic is turning into.

I started one month ago playing FAB. I can agree with many Points you made. One thing I would mention is the fact, that you start with your maximum strenght in FAB while in Magic and most other tcgs you start weak. To start with everything you need to play big turns ensures that nearly every game you will be able to put together one of those turns you and your oponent will talk about.

Great video. I mostly play FaB now too, and for the same reasons you mentioned in the video. I still play magic, but mostly EDH, as my LGS has a large group that supports the casual players who just want to socialize and have fun. But modern, legacy, vintage, and standard, not my jam. Currently my favourite heroes are Kassai, Dorinthea, and Iyslander.

Starting with both games this year, I am completely overwhelmed by the amount of cards and shifting of the Standard meta of Magic to the level that I cannot play it (even digitally). FaB seems more relaxed and their releases are further apart. The legendary equipment cards are expensive, but they can easily be proxied for casual gameplay since they are not in the deck, so a newbie like me does not have to start with buying $200 cards. One other pro for FaB in contrast to Magic are the excellent starter (blitz) decks for under $10. The closest to this are the Challenger decks in Magic but they are quite more expensive. Jumpstart is also an excellent alternative for new players (the real one, not the renamed theme decks, but buying a box seems more likely to get you a good combo of colors. One negative for FaB is the lack of an official digital app where people can play casually and learn the game easily.

your very first point about mtg with hate cards is one of the bigger reasons I stopped playing as a new player. so often me and my friends would just sweep one another and it really wasn't a fun or engaging time. fab looks like it is designed to minimize this as much as possible and I can't wait to get started

FAB has some hate cards. Warmonger's Diplomacy can make rangers sad for a turn. Themai is a problem for wizards. It is not nearly as bad as Magic though.

Go check out Talishar.net. It is a free fan-made client that works pretty well (kinda like MTGO). You can import decks from Fabdb.net or fabrary.net. There is a single player mode that is basically goldfishing your deck, but could be useful to see how the game works. I'd start with Commoner. Cheap and a lot of fun. Outsiders is the most recent set and it is good if you just wanted to pick up a box. The starter decks are good to play against each other, but lacking in power.

Long time MTG player here. I know next to nothing about FaB but after doing some research online, it seems to me that in competitive play, there are a ton of "same" decks. As in, small number of heroes and gear that are worth playing. Is this true? Does it affect the meta? My LGS is going to start carrying FaB product. Im interested in learning more.

"No rotation" formats only isn't exactly positive long term, it will increase entry cost and make it harder for new players to learn the game as well. This isn't an issue yet because game is young, but my guess is rotation formats will be created in some years from now. I also don't agree with the take of "never changing your deck", because that's a big part of cards games, or as well because surely you would get bored playing the same deck all the time. Even with "no rotation" there is new expansions released that change meta, so you will often change decks anyway, if you value staying at least somewhat competitive.
@NearlySaneGames
@NearlySaneGames Жыл бұрын
The Living Legends provides somewhat of a rotation. It's not all upside, but even so, non-rotating formats are still the most popular Magic formats. There's always limited for a change up. I agree there will still be updates to decks, but, at least for now, those don't come in premium priced sets.

Why does a new player have to actually own the game to start? Vet players would benefit to have a set of precon blitz decks they can play with new players. New players try out a number of heroes until they find one or several they like. At that point, the new player gets their own deck and the experienced player can give the new player some extra commons they have to the new player to build a sideboard. Most games typically have just one owner in the area. One can treat FaB the same way. On this note, I am thinking of pushing for the formation of FaB dojos to help onboard new players. Complete with rituals and customs to make onboarding more fun and meaningful.

I actually dont think jank is too bad in fab! I think it is hard to win on a bad hero but fab is a best of one format where you use matchup experience to side deck before you even fight for the first time so throwing an unorthodox strat at your opponent, as long as it can do decent numbers, can be good! There are much less wacky ways to win but i dont see that as bad neccessarily cause getting cheesed out with thassas oracle like effects in magic feels like shit

I played Magic since 1995. Now I onli keep one modern deck and one commander deck to play with my friends. In 2021 I discovered Flesh and Blood. I like it because plays completily ditfernt from Magic, as pointe in this video. Recentily I've been playing FaB Round of the Table bos with my friends. Last year I start playing Grand Archive TCG. Is like 50% MtG, 50% original mechanics and no land cards.I like the art style too. A GA competetive deck costs half of other games.

I love Flesh and Blood so much, I started about a year ago and it quickly became my favorite game. I tried to go back and play commander with friends a few times and got bored with it so quickly. Mtg has gotten so annoying with the constant releases, not to mention the ridiculous things they've tried to jam into the game,the AI art, raising pack prices and more. Long live LSS and Flesh and Blood. 😁

Magic has a manipulate the meta flow of a game, which is about wizards dueling. Such has the formulation of strategies away from the table. It has issues that a game like Mage Wars where all cards player use can be put in a binder and accesed in a game. Flesh and Blood is a fighting game, which involves much more tactical play and reacting. Tactics in Magic are puzzles, not the same as a fighting game.

Part 2: I am approaching Flesh and Blood AS a fighting game with cards and looking to ambassador the game to fighting game community. I am NOT treating it as a CCG, just a game playable with precon blitz that are like Fighters in fighting games. I want to develop a King of the Fighters format where players form a team of precon blitz decks and replace the hero that lost the prior rounds. Heroes that lost are out of the games. First player to win so many rounds wins the game. In short, my message to the FaB community is to NOT think of it as a rival to Magic, but as a fighting game and target the fighting game community. Magic players can pick up a few precon blitz decks and just play FaB for a change of pace. They do not even need to do that, just play FaB with someone who has precon blitz decks until they are used the game. Community can support a game, and not everyone needs to own a game to play it. There are better pure fighting card games out there, BUT... they do not have the growth or community FaB has now.

i started the game around uprising, bought myself 2 starter decks and 2 boxes. i pulled 0 legendaries, every display got a value of around 40 euros pulled for around 90 euros per display. my best pull was a marvel ouvia and thats it. went to some local events and tried to compete with my fai deck, but just wasnt able to stand the other players with their expensive legendaries. i quit the game after that and kept it with magic commander. its a horrible design and all your boxes value is decided on pulling a legendary or not.

As with any card game, we know it is better to buy singles than to open product. Ask The Professor about it. There is a definite skill curve to learning the game and lack of legendaries just put you further behind. There are entry points, like Commoner, that don't require expensive cards. You could also gain skills with any deck for free on talishar dot net.

@Churchless
@Churchless Жыл бұрын
Blitz can definitely be very swingy but it doesn't really rely on who goes first. It's more reliant on if your opponent has a fire hand you don't have the life padding to seize tempo. Learning how and when to block is really important in blitz.

I understand your point. But this comparison is valid for competative players only. I enjoy MTG because of all the crazy things you can do in casual formats like Commander. Infinite life , mana , creatures, inifite storm ,draw and cast your whole deck etc etc. The MTG examples you gave are very specific to competative play and NO casual player ever is going to experience them. Currently FaB is a Spike only game. No one makes a FaB deck to "do cool stuff" , you make a FaB deck to win and that's it.

Just started playing FaB and although I think the game is absolutely great. For me the absolute Biggest differentiator right now is MtG has INFINITELY more deck building choices compared to FaB . This game is still new and so maybe the card pool isn't as deep and I'm less experienced but deck building is the biggest draw for me and unfortunately I don't see a world where this game actually can overcome some of the constraints of the game (which is a good thing keeps it's more "competitive" ) however the replayability for me fades so much faster.

One can prefer other things over Magic and still play Magic. One issue I have with CCGs and lifestyle games is that one's gaming life is just one game. For me, I am taking an approach of myself being the only owner of a game in the area. I will lean on FaB because it does have players.
