I met James Black when I reported for duty at MacDill Air Force Base Tampa. He was an engaging person with green humor. Magical hitting a golf ball. At the time I did not realize his stature. We were friends and I mourn his passing.

I saw you play Southern Hills in the late 60's and my whole golf team followed you all day. We were so impressed with your ability. It has been over 50 years ago but I believe you won and shot about 67. After one tee shot I ran to get your golf tee as a momento. The top of that tee was shredded like it just came out of a blender. The sound of your driver was unreal and hung in the air for soo long. I saw thee big three there along with Doug Sanders when he was hot, and you were better than them in my opinion. Thanks for the memories.

I worked with Mr. Black at MacDill AFB in the mid 60's and he taught me some lessons in club repair and most of all in playing for money. He had a fantastic pair of hands with which he could hit any shot he needed too. Thanks James Jim Carey, PGA

I met him at Lake Presidential GC about 5 years ago...when I asked what he thought the single most important aspect of the golf swing was...he didn't hesitate, 'balance'.

respect. Much respect. When you're way better than others and rules are set up otherwise. Gross.

Impressed. I see what appears to be a book behind him? Is it something he wrote? If so, where can I purchase it? Thank you

I noticed that too, I've searched for it but no such book seems to exist called 'PAR' by James Black.. I really want that book!
