100% agree! He's NEVER gotten the credit he deserves! He's written SOOOOOOOO MANY incredible guitar riffs and, for whatever reason, no one seems to recognize it! Dig, The Warmth, Drive, Mexico, Crowded Elevator, Circles, Consequence, Just a Phase (so beautiful and unique), and so many more! It would be easier to name the songs that aren't amazing on guitar! He uses effects in super interesting ways too! He is, in my opinion, one of the most creative writers of the 90s and 2000s!

That lick from "the metal" is so quintessential rock riffs on the neck I actually questioned if it already basically existed. That they made a unique sounding riff in such a over played place on the neck delights me. Yes it's all been played before. The Metal is in drop D, isn't it? So the E power chord is just barring the second fret. That's how I've always played it, especially since the outro is definitely in drop D.

Legendary licks out of your comfort zone. You do alot of rock and blues. How about jazz, county, Keith Urban, etc. Legendary licks on other instruments converted to guitar. So find fiddle licks or dobro or even drum or mandolin and play them on guitar. BANJO

I just started learning that Aerosmith riff a few days ago. It really is chuggin' awesome when you start to get it down cleanly! And the Incubus riff. They were the first band I really loved and spent so many hours playing Make Yourself and Morning View (and SCIENCE). Had a big influence on my playing. :)
