I thought it was written as a "stadium chant"....meaning at sports events. I always thought that was both business genius as wells as just creative. Business genius because it is always, always, always going to be played. It will never go out of style because people want it at sports events.

Yeah Queen audiences had become pretty notorious for wanting to participate when they were playing. And Freddie loved getting them involved. So they were trying to come up with a song that would maximize the potential for the audience to be a part of it. And they nailed it.

Yeah I've heard that from a couple of these young reaactors, and it is a sad one to take, a big concert can be such a defining enduring memory. It's not all covid related though, perhaps their usual taste doesn't lend itself as much to stadium rock, and also, I'll sound like an old fart but the best stadium bands have stopped or are winding down. Catch U2 next time they in town, overwhelming!

We did that when I was in High School last year and it was always fun. One time they did this as our Medieval/Kendo Combat teams came out to go ham on each other. I had so much fun bashing peoples heads with a longsword while wearing full plate armor. P.S. I go to DoD schools my whole life, including this one which was on an American Military base in S. Korea!

Queen is the #1 rock band ever. Their songs are for the fans. They want you to participate and have fun. There will never be another band like Queen! Ever!! There will never be another Freddie Mercury! Ever!! When he died the music industry took a hard hit. They packed arenas. Sold out in minutes. Queen will always be the King of rock n roll. When We Will Rock You was released as a single, there was another song on the B-side called We Are The Champions which was also a hit. There two songs were played together as if one song as one song followed the other on the album. This was Queen's only double sided #1 single. That being the case, the two songs played together are about five minutes long.

Back in the late 80's and early 90's when you would go to a high school football game people in the metal outdoor bleachers would stomp each foot one at a time, boom boom. Then , they would clap and sing the song. It sounded just like the actual song. It was really cool. People nowadays are really missing out.

You haven't even scratched the surface of their entire discography. They put out 15 studio albums (14 during Freddie's lifetime and 1 released posthumously). A few songs you haven't checked out yet: "Tie Your Mother Down" "Seven Seas of Rhye" "Now I'm Here" "39" (Brian May vocal) "Bicycle Race" "One Vision"

Legend has it that at a concert one day, the power went out. Queen went backstage and in less than 30 minute came out and started playing this song. This is why there are no instruments at first. The original song was totally played with no instruments.

I saw Queen during this "News of the World" tour in November 1977. I've thought about this show many times because it was that good. Freddie Mercury was wearing black and white checkered-boarded leotards. Lots of smoke and lights. Roger Taylors drum kit was set up 10 ft high on a riser. They had ramp platforms on both sides of the stage that went out into the audience. I hadn't seen that before. U2 does that too. They started the show with a very shorted version of this "WWRY" and came back to the regular version near the end of the show. As soon as they finished "We Will Rock You" they broke into "We are the Champions" just like on the LP. Oh to be 18 again....

The song was originally paired with "We Are The Champions" as a single. So "We Will Rock You" acts more as an intro to that tune and always precedes it when it's on the radio.

When we were young & all living at home, my brother & his friend set up 6 speakers in his bedroom, which was under the house. 1 speaker in each corner & 1 on each side of the room & when you stood in the middle of the room with We Will Rock You cranked up, it was epic.

Back in the mid '70s, crowd didn't generally join in with singing etc. Queen played at Bingley Hall and that's what the crowd did, so Brian May wrote We Will Rock You as a results, while Freddie wrote We Are the Champions.

This song was the song people played at sporting events back in the day all the time. It was kind of an anthem. It got replaced by Seven Nation Army by White Stripes. We Will Rock You was immediately followed by We Are The Champions on America Radio. It made number 4 in American charts and 2 in the UK.
