LEGENDS OF THE OLD WEST presented by Black Barrel Media. Bass Reeves begins life as a slave, then fights in the Civil War, and then flees into Indian Territory to live as a free man. His skills as a tracker and a sharpshooter, along with his knowledge of the territory, make him an ideal candidate for the marshal service. Soon-to-be-famous Judge Isaac Parker swears in Reeves as a deputy based out of Fort Smith, Arkansas.

I'd like to see some of the information your agency has! Someone needs to make this man FAMOUS FAMOUS. I'm surprised there hasn't been any serious effort in making a major motion picture about this man! Grew up a slave and went on to become one of the most badass lawmen there ever was! In a violent time in American history.

Bass Reeves & Old Silver, I am so proud he was from my parts. I carry his spirit ❤🌟🇺🇲 He deserves a statue at a healing park. The park will be beautiful located in Muskogee Oklahoma. I am ambidextrous myself, was a riflery instructor at camp Takatoka one summer. Really good shot too. My ex took me out shooting only once. I think he felt intimidated. 😊 he was an officer too.

My GG Grandfather was born 1851’ in Missouri and lived his life in Arkansas. His son my G Grandfather was born there too and lived in the Indian Nation around Atoka’ along the Arkansas line. My grandfather born 1900 in IT -told stories of his uncles. Tuff characters they were to live in that region🇺🇸 Another great historical series 👍thanks again!

Imagine how honest the heart this man must have had to have gone from a slave to enforcing the law and still have justice in his core. Through all the injustice he experienced. Then to turn and be a man of justice. God bless him for that

The year is 2022, 22nd of January listening to the legendary law man Bass Reeves is. My name is Jose, born mexican raised texan, in all my younger years in school I not once heard this man's tale...it took having to watch videos like this (which by the way i am thankful for). It sadden me to have heard how his son ben murdered bass's wife, how Plessy v. Ferguson "seperate but equal" drove bass's career to a straight ignorant/racist end. HOW ON EARTH ARE THESE TALES NOT TOLD IN OUR PUBLIC EDUCATION SYSTEM?! What other legends are there to be told from americans of african/black/slave backgrounds. We all need to sit down at the table, have a straight forward honest talk about our mistakes as a nation. Can we not learn how to be lawfull and good to one another as bass reeves is. Black history, white history, indian history...not its all our history!

Thanks for this, most interesting and looking forward so much to part two. This man has certainly gone down in American history as one of the very best lawmen, and also with the unenviable task of bringing law and order to a vast and unwelcoming area and population. The miles he must have covered probably mostly on horseback and some train journeys is amazing by todays standards of roads and cars, amazing lawman and hopefully more will come to light about the life of Bass Reeves.

Reeves also appears in the BBC adaptation of Jules Verne's Around the World in 80 Days. Portrayed by the British actor Gary Beadle, Reeves unexpectedly encounters Phileas Fogg and his travelling companions on board a stagecoach, and ends up drawing them into his fight to bring a criminal to justice.

Ok, Bass was half brother of his Master, you can guess how. That's why he was treated half way well and trusted with firearms . If you want to truly know his life story read...Black Guns, Tin Star. Also the makers of Yellowstone and 1883 are doing a tv series on this great law man. Also yes, the Lone Ranger is based on him.

This is a long, detailed, well-narrated and apparent attempt at a informative biography on U.S. Deputy Marshal Bass Reeves. My criticisms are that the first 35 years of Bass' life are mostly anecdotal, The Reeves/ Ranger Origin Story is hyperbole and that recently-discovered photograph of a slight Black lawman is not Bass Reeves. Hopefully, the remainder of this series will be better planned with less misinformation and exaggeration. There are plenty of inaccurate and souped up Bass Reeves videos on KZfaq.

That's the problem with information on people that have been dead for more than a century. Theres not exactly much new information coming out. Relax, this is fine. If you don't like the way folks deliver their content, feel free making a KZfaq video of your own.
@SKaR64
@SKaR64 3 жыл бұрын
@@joshuatraffanstedt2695 I don't think that is the problem with the numerous Bass Reeves Youttube videos. In my opinion, the problem is that there are so damn many of them and that most creators don't even try to make them original with new, interesting and factual content. I actually gave this one high marks for being a "long, detailed, well-narrated and informative" biography attempt, but you apparently ignored that part. You should take your own advice. "If you don't like the way folks deliver their" comments on content, "feel free making a KZfaq video of your own" on how people's opinions are wrong. There is new information on Bass Reeves. You just need to know where to look. Good day.
