Hi lovelies,
I visited Wistman’s Wood in Dartmoor, and of course I’m going to share this with you.
Enjoy the impressions of this beautiful little piece of woodland while I’m talking about the legends that are surrounding this magical forest.
Thank you so much for watching
Much Love and many Blessings

Very nice of you to post such a video - but I have to remind everyone that this is a very sensitive habitat. Please do not take moss - that's illegal and is destroying the landscape, as are dozens of visitors hurting the trees and ground. It used to be only a couple of visitors a day, but now it is up to 400 per day, and is too fragile to take it. Please enjoy the video for what it is, but please please don't think "It's only me, and it won't hurt", Stay around the outside and look in, instead

Well said, and whole heartedly agree 👍 I actually didn't know there were that many visitors and we definitely have to protect such sensitive habitats 🍀🌸

@@blossomfae435 Thankyou for your feedback. The number 400 was posted on the DevonLive website on Monday, and was a quote from one of the Moor wardens. I cannot find the post, but believe me, I didn't make it up to frighten you. I hope you find other less-sensitive places to delight and inspire us!

I recall the eeriness of the woods, especially when misty. Worst was after the snows of 1962-63, when cattle and sheep had wandered into the wood and got their legs caught between the boulders. Even in late summer '63 there were still bones and skulls there. Another tradition is that no-one can walk from one end of the woods to another... I did do most of it, but it isn't easy going, so I guess the legend is true. There's mosses growing and hanging down - there's even small trees that seeded in the moss - a strange effect. So then, mysterious and magical it is...

I can understand how the Roman legionaries would sometimes be filled with superstitious terror and dread walking through the primordial forests of ancient Britannia!

So.... the reason that this ancient woodland exists is all to do with the geology. Anyone who has walked through the woods will have noticed it is littered with rocks. In short, it's too Rocky to have been farmed or be suitable for habitation and it's rocky geology also meant it was not farmed or grazed.

Seems the stones my have been moved there to protect the old oak trees, or piled there to clear land for farming or grazing? If they are dated only 500 years then they would not have been used by druids, except more modern druids? Ancient oaks were held in high regard by druids/ pagan ritual. Known as one of the strongest trees. These trees look more weepy and very crooked for oaks. Haunted forest stories would keep folks away from gathering firewood. Lol. Cool magical place.

It is a great place to visit. Yes, forest areas like this will always evoke myths and legends. Whatever really is behind this part, it's fun to dive into the old folktales. Thanks for watching and your comment 🍀🌸

no more the opposite Divine J. prehistoric famers couldn't clear land on this small patch due to the rock and terrible soil - so it's the only place the oaks COULD grow in the end ...
