The LOB was talented but they owe Clemons, Avril, Bennett and Irvin for ALWAYS getting crazy pressure in such a short time.

I miss this defence…. Chancellor, Thomas and Sherman and Smith were such a crazy perfect combination of recklessness, intimidation, power, cockiness, smarts and the perfect scheme to showcase the individual skills. It will never be repeated. Anyone talking about the Broncos defence in the same breath is kidding themselves. Perhaps the greatest, definitely the top two defences of all time. It’s just poetry in motion!

@@marquisjackson245 1983-86 Los Angeles Raiders of NFL G.O.A.T./🐐 “Shutdown Coverage” cornerback Hall of Famer Mike Haynes, 1980 NFL Defensive Player of the Year & should’ve been enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame 30 years ago & my all-time favorite “Shutdown Coverage” cornerback Lester “The Judge” Hayes, free safety Vann McElroy, & recently deceased strong safety Mike Davis (R.I.P.)…Check their OUTSTANDING performance in the Raiders 38-9 EVISCERATION of the 14-2 defending Super Bowl champion ‘83 Washington Redskins in Super Bowl XVIII or 18 on 01/22/1984. The ‘83 Washington Redskins had won 27 of their previous 30 games & were the then highest scoring team in NFL single season history with 541 points which equals out to a 33.8 points per game average the Raiders shut them down with ease. ‘83 NFC co-leader in receptions with 78 along with 1,225 receiving yards, & 8 touchdown receptions “Downtown” Charlie Brown & Hall of Fame wide receiver Art Monk who would set the then NFL single season receptions record of 106 during the 1984-85 season & would also be the NFL’s all-time career receptions leader with 940 at the time of his retirement following the 1995-96 season of the Washington Redskins were EACH held without a reception in the first half of Super Bowl XVIII or 18 in which the Raiders led 21-3. Brown finished the game with 3 receptions for 93 yards 0 touchdown receptions all in “Garbage” time after the Raiders led by a 28-9 score including a 60 yard reception. Art Monk on the other hand recorded just 1 reception for 26 receiving yards with 0 touchdown receptions & that lone reception occurred on the very first play of the 4th quarter in which the Raiders led by a 35-9 score immediately following Hall of Fame Raiders all-purpose/dual threat running back extraordinaire Marcus Allen’s spectacular, reverse field, & game clinching 74 yard touchdown run on the final play of the third quarter. The only reason why Art Monk even got that 1 reception was because the UNDISPUTED King of “Bump & Run” coverage the aforementioned Lester “The Judge” Hayes slipped & fell down when he attempted to jam Art Monk at the line of scrimmage on that particular play otherwise Monk who as I previously stated would go on to have a Hall of Fame career & be the one time former single season & career receptions leader in NFL history would’ve started & played an ENTIRE Super Bowl while being held to 0 receptions thanks to the suffocating, lockdown, & fly paper coverage of Lester “The Judge” Hayes all by himself with no safety help SIMPLY PHENOMENAL!!!! 1981-85 San Francisco 49ers of historically underrated “Shutdown Coverage” cornerback Eric Wright, Hall of Famer & NFL G.O.A.T./🐐 all-around defensive back in NFL history (Which includes being named to BOTH the Pro-Bowl & All-Pro teams at left cornerback, right cornerback, free & strong safety, while also playing the slot position, being a great blitzer from both safety positions & finally being an outstanding & ferocious tackler in both the running & passing game) Ronnie Lott, free safety Dwight Hicks, & strong safety Carlton Williamson. During the 1981-82 season free safety Dwight Hicks was in his third season in the NFL while Eric Wright, Ronnie Lott, & Carlton Williamson were ALL rookies. They all helped the 1981 San Francisco 49ers go 13-3 with the NFL’s #2 scoring defense in a then 28 team league as opposed to their 1980-81 San Francisco 49ers counterparts who went 6-10 after an initial 3-0 start to that season & had the NFL’s 26th ranked defense in scoring & Eric Wright made the most important TACKLE in San Francisco 49ers history & maybe in NFL postseason history in the HISTORIC 1981 NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME after legendary Hall of Fame San Francisco 49ers & STILL to this very day considered by many fans & players the NFL G.O.A.T./🐐 quarterback Joe Montana hit deceased 49ers fan favorite wide receiver Dwight Clark (R.I.P.) with “The Catch” to give the 49ers a 28-27 lead over the Dallas Cowboys with only 58 seconds remaining in the 4th quarter & on the ensuing Dallas Cowboys offensive possession quarterback Danny White hit recently enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame Cowboys wide receiver Drew Pearson in stride for what initially appeared to be the game winning 70 yard touchdown pass until the aforementioned cornerback Eric Wright made the 49ers franchise most important tackle ever by grabbing Pearson by his shoulder pads with ONE hand yanking him down aggressively to the ground & on the very next play 49ers defensive tackle Lawrence Pillars stripped sacked Cowboys quarterback Danny White & the 49ers recovered the fumble & advanced to their first ever Super Bowl (XVI or 16 to be exact) where they defeated 1981 NFL MVP (Should’ve been enshrined into the Pro Football Hall of Fame 35 years ago but I digress) quarterback Ken Anderson & his Cincinnati Bengals 26-21 after the 49ers led 20-0 at halftime. Then 3 years later during the 1984-85 season the 15-1 San Francisco 49ers DEMOLISHED the 14-2 513 point 32.1 points per game Miami Dolphins offensive juggernaut led by 1984 NFL MVP & Hall of Fame gunslinger quarterback extraordinaire & the “Blueprint” for this modern era spread vertical pass happy offensive minded NFL we currently have today Dan Marino by a 38-16 score in Super Bowl XIX or 19. Marino in only his second season of his 17 year Hall of Fame career (1983-99) set then NFL single season records of (362) completions, (5,084) yards passing, & (48) touchdown passes which weren’t broken until the mid 2000’s due to rule changes by the NFL Competition Committee to appease their overrated, media darling, & postseason choke artist quarterback Peyton Manning & his high scoring 1998-10 Indianapolis Colts for clarification. Marino’s wide receiver tandem of Mark Clayton & Mark Duper known as the “Marks Brothers” became the first wide receiver tandem to each amass 1,300+ yards receiving in a single NFL season on the same team as Clayton had 73 receptions for a STILL standing Miami Dolphins franchise single season record of 1,389 yards receiving, & STILL standing Miami Dolphins franchise single season & then NFL single season record of 18 touchdown receptions (Jerry Rice of the San Francisco 49ers with 22 during a 12 game strike shortened 1987-88 season, Sterling Sharpe of the Green Bay Packers with 18 in 1994-95, Randy Moss of the New England Patriots with 23 in 2007-08, & Davante Adams of the Green Bay Packers with 18 in 2020-21) are the only other wide receivers to have 18 or more touchdown receptions in a single season since the aforementioned Mark Clayton did it first in 1984. Mark Duper had 71 receptions for 1,306 receiving yards, & 8 touchdown receptions. Although the ‘84 Chicago Bears who the 49ers defeated 23-0 in the 1984 NFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME garnered a ton media hype due to their aggressive, blitz happy, & seek & destroy “46 Defense” that set a STLL standing NFL single season record of 72 sacks it was the ‘84 San Francisco 49ers that was the NFL’s #1 ranked defense in points allowed & they became the only defense STILL to this very day that had its ENTIRE starting secondary of the aforementioned Eric Wright, Ronnie Lott, Dwight Hicks, & Carlton Williamson all be named to the Pro-Bowl in the same season for the NATIONAL FOOTBALL CONFERENCE (NFC). By the way the aforementioned 1984 Los Angeles Raiders secondary ALMOST shared that same honor that season as the aforementioned NFL G.O.A.T./🐐 “Shutdown Coverage” cornerback Hall of Famer Mike Haynes, Lester “The Judge” Hayes, & strong safety Vann McElroy were named to the AMERICAN FOOTBALL CONFERENCE (AFC) Pro-Bowl roster with only strong safety the late great Mike Davis (R.I.P.) not receiving that honor. Meanwhile on 01/20/1985 in Super Bowl XIX or 19 after the Miami Dolphins led 10-7 at the end of the first quarter & Dan Marino had completed 9 of his first 10 passes for 103 yards passing & 1 touchdown pass the remaining 3 quarters he completed only 20 of 40 pass attempts for 215 yards, 0 touchdown passes, 2 red zone interceptions, & was sacked a then career high 4x. Meanwhile Mark Clayton was held to 6 receptions for 92 receiving yards & 0 touchdown receptions while Mark Duper had just 1 reception for 11 receiving yards on the Dolphins second offensive possession of the game in the first quarter. The 49ers out scored Miami 21-6 in the second quarter to take a 28-16 halftime lead & shutout the Dolphins offensive juggernaut in the second half thanks to the SPECTACULAR coverage of the aforementioned 49ers secondary of Eric Wright, NFL G.O.A.T./🐐 all-around defensive back in NFL history Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott, Dwight Hicks, & Carlton Williamson while adding 10 second half points of their own to win by a shocking 38-16 rout of a score. With that being said while the 2012-16 SPECIFICALLY the ‘13 “Legion of Boom” Seattle Seahawks secondary is HANDS DOWN the best of this era, the 1983-86 SPECIFICALLY the ‘83 Los Angeles Raiders secondary & the 1981-85 SPECIFICALLY the ‘84 San Francisco 49ers secondary can EACH lay claim along with the aforementioned ‘13 “Legion of Boom” Seattle Seahawks as arguably the greatest defensive secondary in NFL single season history. Just my $0.02 & a little food for thought.

Earl Thomas, Richard Sherman, and Bobby Wagner will be Hall of Famers. It's a real shame Kam Chancellor had to retire early because of a neck injury. Kam had all the stats that dont show up on the score sheet. Leadership and game-changing hits to name two. He had plenty of INTs as well. If you asked Seahawk fans who their favorite player on this defense was, 85% including myself would name Kam Chancellor 😊

Do 2015 Broncos defense at some point. I concede this defense was better but that was b/c they played w/ a lead of minimum 2 scores in 13 of 19 games vs just 5 of 19 games for Denver. Seahawks offense was also Top 5 to Top 10 in all stats except sacks allowed, plus Seahawks defense had benefit of offenses having the 3rd worst starting field position due to their outstanding kick coverage units. So they got to play in more advantageous scenarios on defense. Denver’s offense was bottom 10 & their defense was put in tougher situations (3rd worst starting field position amongst all defenses, faced the most possessions of any NFL defense) but were still #1 in most key categories (273 points allowed, in YPA allowed passing (5.1) & rushing (3.3), total TDs allowed (29), in sacks (52)) in spite of their offense. They helped the team go 11-3 in one score games & 2-1 in games w/o an offensive TD. So I agree 2013 Seattle might’ve been better but 2015 Denver was more important to their team’s success to a point that only the 1974 Steelers or 2000 Ravens really compare to it.

“More advantageous scenarios?” No. Seahawks played in the better conference, by far, and the best division. 6 of the 10 SB’s, the NFC was repped by one of their own divisional teams. They smashed, beat the brakes off, annihilated, the best scoring offense of all time in SB 48. Playing them was not “advantageous.”

@@SeattleRaindrop206 Tell me what do you think is easier on defense? Carrying a terrible offense that can’t score or sustain drives or being up 4 scores b/c Russell Wilson & Marshawn Lynch had a Top 10 offense.
