Senate Republicans are moving forward with a plan to get around Governor Katie Hobbs' veto by putting an illegal immigration and border security law on the November ballot. It would mean that Arizona voters may have a chance to weigh in on what would be one of the toughest laws in the country.
The proposal was modeled after a Texas law allowing local law enforcement to arrest and seek the deportation of people who cross the border illegally. The Senate Committee on Military Affairs, Public Safety and Border Security is scheduled to hear a new proposal, called the "Secure the Border Act" today.
