After seeing some comments I shared my thoughts in a blog post about the set being inaccurate or not, take a look at it here - racingbrick.com/2021/07/lego-10279-volkswagen-t2-camper-van-detailed-building-review/

Very nice review! In your opinion is this new set a must have or a nice-to-have for folks who already have the first version of the van?
@RacingBrick
@RacingBrick 2 жыл бұрын
@@AB0BA_69 I wouldn't say it's a must have. A decent build with nice solutions here and there and some clever functions, but as I said in the review it lacks the wow factor for me that I felt with the Ecto-1 and the Porsche 911.

Comments from my six-year-old, whose favourite things are cars and Lego: "You have definitely got to get me this." Said about twenty times, throughout the video, a few times followed up with, "It's so cool." And a number of times with, "It has so many moving parts," either before or after. And, as I was typing this, he said, "You have definitely got to get me that. It's so cool." When you asked for comments, he said, "I say YES. It's so cool." Well, that's Christmas sorted, then. I already have the previous version for him, saved up for Christmas. Since this one is so much more detailed, I guess I'll give him that first, then this for his birthday. Wouldn't want him to be disappointed with the other one. Thank you for this review! I really enjoyed your comments and explanations, and you've helped me plan my Christmas/birthday gifts for my kid, on top of that.

I have 2 of the T1 sets, one is “scrapped” for parts and the other is “Half scrapped” by means it’s entire cabin for the driver is missing. But the camper section is intact, a “clusterfock” of bricks makes a wall where the rear of the drivers seat was.

The curves of the front and the windshield are not authentic in my eyes. The pictures with the direct comparison make this clear. The model seems too angular to me and with too many straight surfaces, the original has very soft, round shapes.

Great review and lots of interesting details , but let’s just agree this one isn’t as good as the older version from an external design POV. Especially the nose and windshield
@RacingBrick
@RacingBrick 2 жыл бұрын
I think it's very much a personal preference. The previous one had more "iconic" details that are easy to associate even if they are not super accurate. The windshield's curvature is clearly a limitation of the material, LEGO needs to stick to their own designs as well. The front lights should definitely point straight and not outwards, but for me that's all about the front.

First purchase I am going to do in years. I really like those new crator cars but I never have any emotional tie with it, so it is just for buying and they just take up space. But I was gifted the T1 model a few years back and I still have it, so this will look neat besides it but I think the new building techniques will completely shame the first version. This one looks a lot better!! Great colors and it looks very sleek! Also, I like the surfboard and chairs although the Surfboard feels like its not really a part as It doesnt fit anywhere in the camper. Still would have liked more printed pieces, especially the ones you need. I would have understood if they didnt print the flowers as that is optional

That new green pin piece should be a nice addition to Technic sets. The green antistud-pin combined with the typical stud-pin should provide a half thickness gap, similar to the typical half liftarms, but provides only pin connection which should make it more versatile.

I’m in process of trying to start my own review channel TrueLegoMom, and seeing your format is really helpful. I like that it’s not just a speedbuild but you really go thru the steps well without it feeling too long. I’d love to email you to ask you some questions about filming/editing...what you use to film, angle tips, do you add audio commentary afterwards, etc. great video, just subscribed to your channel!
@RacingBrick
@RacingBrick 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I can share things here as well... first I wouldn't suggest to include "LEGO" in your channel's name, as sooner or later TLG could ask you to change it. I suggest to check out the fair play brochure on lego.com, that has a lot of dos and don'ts about the trademark usage. Filming - (my equipment is totally overkill for LEGO videos, you really don't need all this to make decent content) - Panasonic GH5 with 12-60mm, Olympus 45mm f1.8, Laowa 7.5mm, Panasonic 100-300mm, Olympus OMD EM-10 III, GoPro 7 Audio - I usually take notes during building and record audio after I have all the footage Filming tips - You can pretty much see the angles used on the videos, nothing special. Get a decent light and a paper photo background (preferably not white as it'll be washed out), but there are no strict rules here so just find a look that you like as a starting point and then you can develop your own setup.

Having owned a T2, the side detail is a bit naff on the door and the overhang. It looks like more of a Commer Van from the late sixties, the lack of a roof rack is neither here nor there. The front roof is wrong, would have been better as a rack. My point of view is an opinion, will I purchase it, erring to the no side I am afraid!

Those new green pins are not from Forma as someone wrote... It's a brand new pin with anti-stud. The white 3L pins w/o friction ridges came out first in the Ninjago Hydro Bounty. They are white just to distinguish easily from the black ones. What I don't get is why LEGO now made yellow 2L pins w/o friction ridges. For me personally the rainbow of Technic axes and pins is a bigger complaint than the black instructions background, which should be banned from the boxes as well. This hippy van should have had the most colorful boxes of them all. I guess the black box warns that this is a display only model that will fall apart on the slightest touch and under no circumstances playable.
@RacingBrick
@RacingBrick 2 жыл бұрын
The pins are color coded for a reason. I tried to build alternative sets with fully black interior, fully black pins of 3-4 different kind, and it's a nightmare even for someone experienced. I also tested that with casual builders, they hated it and used incorrect parts all the time. Agree on the box design, it really needs to be more colorful. The model's stability is not that bad, the only sensitive section I noticed so far is the front bumper.

@@RacingBrick I agree it's a little tough, but it was possible a few years ago back when LEGO sets were still labeled for kids. Even length axles in black and uneven ones in lbg worked also fine. Maybe people nowadays are more unfocused and want things the easy way. You can see this by the increasing thickness of instructions which almost trippled compared to 10 years ago. Imagine how much paper could be saved...
@RacingBrick
@RacingBrick 2 жыл бұрын
@@R0Sch88 but pieces were still color coded back then with black and lbg, and pins were not all black either :) Nowadays we have more colors on the axles, but as I see the yellow/red ones are used when there's a differentiation needed and the axle itself is not really visible. I've seen designers focusing more on the visible parts and using a matching color if available (e.g. black 2L axles) and if the design really asks for it.

Hi Tiago. Another great review. I am really confused as I do not see much difference I style compared to the original T1 and now T2. I owned both (in real) and there was a bigger difference. Way to edgy (like the 007 car). Interior and color are nice, but not 100% convinced.

Hi, this is the other channel, I'm the one who likes Technic ;) I don't think there'd be an easy way to replicate the curves better without introducing a bunch of new elements. I'm not a VW van expert but for me it looks ok, and the functions really improve the quality experience.

I think it’s a great set, I would love it if it were a custom design but the front and roof looks extremely inaccurate and very chunky relative to the real thing

I am a massive Volkswagen fan and own a beetle and t6 camper van. I bought the previous Lego vw models but looking at this set it’s just sooo wrong. The front end doesn’t even resemble the t2 and the different size comparison to the t1? And also nearly double the price? Why is there no roof rack for the surfboard? Don’t get me wrong love the sliding door and the pop top , the colour combination is nice but will be passing on this one.sorry Lego but no thanks.

I prefer the original version (do need new white parts as I got mine used and the parts are seriously yellowed), as it was cheaper I find these cars should come in at between £65- £115

There's ways to clean yellowed parts that would certainly be cheaper than bying additional legos

Thanks for the comparison of the size of T1 and T2. That is really disappointing, they don‘t match side by side. That is not the best way to bring out new models.
