LEGO Ideas just made some big changes to the 80's contest we looked at yesterday, which could potentially lead to a 2026 LEGO set.

I mean, it wouldn't be a very fair vote if the votes from previous entries were based on the trial and select process of an entry that isn't in the rink anymore. It'd be pretty unfair for the people who may of wanted to pick the new entry but can't because they already voted.

Of course, they had to remove the Karate Kid one.. That was my favorite build of the bunch! LEGO Ideas is broken... in other news, water makes things wet. Honestly, LEGO needs to re-evaluate how LEGO Ideas is run. The rules were not designed for the number of people who now use the site... and that's why we end up with 30+ projects every review.

Yup :/ as a creator who's submitted a fair few projects now, the current moderation system really isn't geared up for it. I did a set based on Little Shop of Horrors, which the IP checker said was fine... then it was taken down and re-evaluated as 'inappropriate'... for about a month? Then it became appropriate again and allowed me to resubmit to the 80s contest - crazy haha

@@Nobody76World Ahaha that's my question! 😂 glad they changed their minds eventually, but I do wish they'd have figured it out before I lost 1k supporters. My best guess would be that Audrey II eats blood, and they don't really like representing that in sets... but it's done really cartoonishly in the musical and film so I don't think it's that big a deal, and I guess they don't either.

I actually like resetting the votes because it will make it fare for the whatever set they choose and it doesn’t make the idea creator sad/mad on their idea not having a chance/have others ask “what’s the point of adding this it never going catch up with the other”

HISTK was my CHILDHOOD!!! I even built a minifig-scale shrink ray and the backyard from the movie when I was a kid. I’m picking that one for sure

In most cases I would say counting Dimensions stuff should be fine, most of those franchises deserve better than one minifigure and two dozen-piece builds. This time though I do think it's unfortunate that the series being snubbed is the one that Lego has never touched before That being said I LOVE the Honey I Shrunk the Kids build, that ant is so cool

@@lifedeather The goonies one still breaks a rule... the license conflicts and resolutions page rules that rules out the ship "Pirate Bay (including Pirate Ship/galleon style ships and pirate island) concept" Lego should of left the karate kid one in instead which is my fav film!

I just can’t see Goonies winning here. Unless LEGO will downsize the model, I don’t expect many people will be paying for a potentially $250-$300 goonies ship as impressive as it may be.

Resetting the votes is kinda necessary for this, otherwise they'd run the risk of people wanting to undo their vote to vote for the new project, or the new project having significantly less votes because people already voted. It might be annoying but resetting the votes was the least problematic option

I understand your frustration, but I don't mind them removing the Karate Kid set since I don't have as much of a connection to that IP as much as the others. Maybe that or another Karate Kid set will be coming up in the next fan vote.

That's fair but I'm not even an 80's child and Karate Kid as well as Cobra Kai so yeah it may not bother you but I feel it's better than Honey I shrunk the kid

On the one hand, yeah, it's a shame they removed the Karate Kid, on the other, the actual set would have to be shrunken down so far, all of the voters would get angry that Lego didn't include enough details compared to the submission. In the end, whatever set they put out will sell like crazy anyway.

be honest no one actually counts dimensions as Lego themes. And I’m pretty sure the goonies set is just way more popular than karate kid so I understand the choice

It's a rough break, but the HISTKs one is a nice inclusion, and makes for a fun novelty set. The original Antman set was neat for the time, but I like the expanded concept of smaller items in a larger scale, and the ant is such a better concise build here. If voted hope Lego can do this submission justice as it's a great movie, and one of few I remember growing up seeing in theaters.

I hate to say it, but this is a trend for Ideas. Pick any contest blog post on their site and you'll see comments pointing out problems with the way rules are written (like copy-pasted content from an earlier contest that's no longer relevant), or with admins not following their own rules (like asking for builds themed on Zen... which is a religion). I once received an email from them that I won a contest... and then after following up they admitted they made a mistake and I hadn't won. Not to mention the inherent problems of online voting contests in general, which are susceptible to brigading and cheating.

I this moment i just want to see a Universal IP's Theme. Just imagine a King Kong (2005) set with a King Kong Big figure vs Vastatosaurus Rex. A Jurassic World set based of the cabin of The Grady Family from the last movie. A Universal Monsters set with a Battle Pack style (a set that include the Big four)

Dang, I voted for the Karate Kid set and would have bought that one. Now I suppose I'll vote for the Honey, I Shrunk The Kids set, but I don't actually think I'll wind up purchasing it if it wins. There are just too many other Lego sets on my list right now that are more exciting than that. The Karate Kid set would've fit nicely in my city though.

the goonies breaks the License conflict and resolutions page rule against submitting galleon style ships and pirate ships to the site. Karate kid is my favourite film and they remove it just to break another rule!!1

What they should have done is removed one of the projects then just added an extra one to the second voting round. That way there would be the right amount of projects but no duplicate creator. also damn it I don't like the goonies but I love karate kid!

Resetting the votes is the fairest to the 5 creators. There have been plenty of experiments that have shown that altering the candidates can significantly alter the end results. This is especially true if a voter has a limited number of votes. So, in all fairness, resetting the vote is the right thing to do (again, for the creators involved).

I'm be honest. Lego ideas sets as of late just don't interest me. The gremlins set was kind of cool. Shame the karate kid set got cut tho.
