The LEGO Marvel Series 2 Collectable Minifigure Series releases in September 2023 and they look fantastic. This new series features incredible new Marvel minifigures like Moon Knight, She Hulk, Kate Bishop, and even a few X-Men from the X-Men '97 Series. However, LEGO has tarnished any goodwill they may have garnered among other CMF collectors by now putting their figures behind cardboard boxes instead of the familiar plastic bags. Let's talk about that.

how are boxes more environmentally friendly when people who want specific figures will have to buy them off the internet where the figure will be re-packaged probably in plastic and couriered out, two environmental factors

Please do another one of these it is so funny you can do it talking about the lego community coming up with the idea of scales and what this means for the future how this could kick off a new era where weight guides are produced with each cmf and how with that there is a chance lego fights back by adding random amounts of extra packing material to the boxes maybe even raising the prices more to account for the extra packing

People are honestly forgetting that blind bag are not new and you were never supposed to be able to feel what you got. That was a trick consumers were able to figure out to game the system. The point from a company standpoint is to make a profit and with these the profits comes for repeat purchases. Seriously go explore the rest of the toy department count how many of them are in a Baggie form vs a box. How many can you realistically feel to figure it out.

"I'm very good at feeling bags." I can never unhear that... thanks... Here's the thing about the boxes... Yes, the cardboard packaging material is more environmentally sound as compared to the plastic bags. However... the physical space that one "blind box" takes up is at least twice as much as the older "blind bag". Now multiply this into a whole case of 36 it's even bigger than the old series. By switching to these boxes Lego is now shipping more AIR in a case than it is product. In addition, it will require more shipments (and more trucks) to transport the same amount of minifigs with this new packaging. The resellers are going to benefit from this for sure. But I think it might backfire on Lego in that people will get fed up with the randomness of it all and just go straight to the reseller. They may see a decrease in their store sales. (I can only hope). I for one am going to just try and pick them up from local resellers, even if they are a little higher in price. The other option for some would be to buy the 6-pack box first (since there are no duplicates in these) and then buy the remaining 6 from resellers.

dedicated collectors will buy a box and split with friends. casuals don’t care. I do think this is probably slightly environmental from Lego - they always were blind boxes just people figured out the groping. I doubt this moves the needle much as most numbers will be casual pocket money buyers.

The whole concept is misunderstood by Lego. Blind collectable stuff is usually stuff you get for free with something else you buy, like gum or chocolate or its stuff you can buy really cheap, like trading cards. then it could encourage people to buy more of the product they came with and it encourages collectors to trade and interact with each other. We all know Lego collectors do not trade, they sell. Products priced at 4 bucks shouldn't be in a blind packaging. Its like going to the bakery and buy a random bread until you get the one you want. Also not sure how I am saving the environment by buying 10 plastic minifigs I dont want in order to get one I do want, that is 10 plastic minifigs against 1 plastic bag.

Brilliant video idea and excellent editing! LEGO have said that they are (very slowly) moving towards more sustainable packaging and I like to believe this is a part of that. Yes the feel out the figure part has been taken away, but they are meant to be blind bags/boxes, otherwise Lego would just label which character is in them. But if that were the case, Lego would make less money. Labelling the boxes would be ideal for customers, but will likely never happen. As someone who hasn't bought a CMF bag in probably 10 years and has no interest in this series, I like the box change and think complaining about the packaging of Lego figures for characters you don't really care about is a bit silly.

I'm rooting for the guy on the left as he appears more honest with his opinion while other guy seems a bit agitated. I am sure Lego has some legit reason for this strategy though I agreed it is stupid as hell and probably we all ended up buying bunch of duplicate.

I just got three random boxes from Walmart and I didn’t find a single figure that I wanted. I got Kang, She Hulk, and Echo, I wanted the X-Men and Moon Knight

I was extremely frustrated with the way Lego did this series. I purchased 14 of these, hoping to get atleast half of the series. No. I got 5 figs, with 9 duplicates. It’s absolutely ridiculous to me how Lego positioned them in the cases, where if you just grab the ones in order, half of them are duplicates. This wouldn’t be an issue at all, if they would’ve just stuck to the bags.

I've done that in the past and would recommend this method to others. I happened to find this series in stores early so that wasn't an option yet but it's what I'll be doing from now on.

Im considering quiting CMF after .. well 13 years or how long it is. I want to feel them.. hunt for them and have multiples of those I want. Today I bought 2 and get storm and agata. I didnt want any of them. Yeah. I can weight them. But it is not accurate it seems.. and well.. not sure if this even interest me anymore

Honestly, this just makes me happy that I'm not a minifig guy. While I do like the environmental aspect of this change, it was clearly done as a money grab. What needs to happen is people need to vote with their wallets. If sales tank, Lego will get the message.

I think the environmental impact will be worse as many people will want a new feeling figure so will just keep buying the boxes and end up having armies of the same figure piling up in a draw somewhere over lockdown I ended up with sooo many Disney Squirrels that I ment to sell but they're still in a pile in my wardrobe
