I honestly had no idea the Loop coaster was THAT MUCH taller than the 2018 Coaster 😲😳 both are gorgeous sets and have a lot of strengths, but I have to say the Loop Coaster is my favorite simple because I love the color scheme

All of the inconsistencies you described about the 2018 coaster most likely can be solved by using the correct mini figs, hair pieces and placement on the cars. The weight of the cars affects the ride a lot more than we think. I believe the instructions show you the best mini figs for which seat that will help it flow the best because the weight will be properly balanced. Hopefully that helps:)

As a MOC coaster builder I can agree with you very much, but his roller coaster really goes absurdly slow, my set has my own minifigs in some whacky positions etc, and it runs flawlessly. Same goes for the empty kart. I only have some issues with the chain being too tight but that's an easy fix.

@@bricklover1518 When did you buy your copy of this set? My experience trying to help people with the speed issue is that the karts on the newerly bought copies run faster, but the chain has more issues. Vice versa ln older models.

I personally greatly prefer the old coaster. The color palette and overall aesthetic is much more whimsical/theme parky. I just look at it and it makes me happy. The new one, while cool, is kind of oppressive looking and has a short ride. To each their own though.

I mean, have you been sone some parks lately? There's rides out there that are literally just one hill, last 15 seconds, and yet still manage to accue 30+ minute waiting times for their lines... "Oooh, but it's the tallest/fastest coaster in the world!"(this record is beat within a year), "and it uses mag-lav tech to go up the hill just as fast as it goes down!"(hence why it only lasts 15 seconds)

The 2018 coaster requires you to use the the advance wheel like a ratchet. You don’t need to continuously keep turning the crank.

Imagine the colors of the new loop on the old coaster and the old coaster working flawlessly. Oh my, that would be something. I really prefer the entertainment of the 2018 one as it's longer and looks more fun, even if the new one have loops (which is basically everything it has).

The entrance is obviously where the ticket booth is. You walk the loop, take the ride and exit through the Photo Booth.

Great video Jordan For me it is the 2022 purely because the design of the track actually spells out LOOP the work that took shows the way Lego's attention to detail and Easter eggs has really stepped up. Keep it up

Probly you right. And may be the track s tilted up a little. I fount the carts 👍🙂 from city. space descovery center set... Roll faster on the 2018 tracks ..🙂.try it.

I have got the loop coaster only. I experienced the elevator chain skip as you mentioned in the video. I suggest trying to remove one or two chain elements and the mini-issue is solved.... I did so and it worked well. Congratulations for your video 🙂

The ticket booth on the 2018 Roller Coaster _is_ the entrance… you buy your ticket then take the path on the left. You return on the right path and buy your ride photo.

I love the new one and I'm about to buy it tomorrow, but now I see that the ride is too short... but it seems to be solved by using the motor thanks to its flawless functionality.

Oh Bricksie, you did it again. Thanks for the comparison but now you did it. I now have to buy the new set as soon as I can figure out where to place it. Dig the use of the power blocks. Keep up the great work and try to show off a few less appealing sets 😆 (I’m running out of space 🙂

I have both but haven’t built the newer one. Problem I have with the 2018 one is that the chain keeps breaking and I have to constantly fiddle to get it working again. The other issue is that with mini-figs in the cart, they don’t go all the way down when they go round at the end and just stop and get stuck 😂

Hey Jordan, enjoyed the comparison - prefer the efficiency of the new one but the ride time of the old one, both are great sets though. Look forward to seeing them both in your amusement park (would love to see in car footage from the loop coaster using a tiny camera and played back in slow motion...)

I would say he has a problem with his 2018 coaster. We have it and have never had a problem with it. Catches on the chain every time. Maybe he doesn’t have the right amount of links.

I was at the mall today, and saw the 2022 roller coaster first time at a Lego store. Sadly it wasn’t working properly, but I did see it work a couple times, and was amazed to see a Lego roller coaster :)

Just picked up the Loop Coaster during double VIP. I’m about 3 hours away from 4 different LEGO stores in Atlanta, Greenville, and Charlotte but lucked out walking into the Greenville location during vacation to see this gorgeous set on display plus getting double VIP. Had to get it as it makes a solid expansion to my Hotdog Minifig Character! I’m also starting to branch more away from just LEGO Star Wars and realizing there are some amazing non-licensed sets (probably the best) I may add a coy pond to update the entrance a few muppets mascots, and some minifigs representing my family.

Spray W 2-40 on the track and train wheels, you will notice the difference, i did that and runs beautifully and quiet

We (my son and I) had the same problem with the chain skipping. We removed 1 link (another set of hands was really helpful! The first time we dropped the chain and had to rethread it, which was pain) and it fixed the problem!

Just so u know, the 2018 coaster does have an entrance. It's in the back left corner. But, the minifgs may not fit!

The gear skip issue could be solved by just removing 1 piece from the chain.

Good work. I recently saw a short video clip from one of the LEGO certified stores in China who connected these two seamlessly together to make a larger functional rollercoaster ride.

Maybe you should have your mechanic minifigure take a look at your old roller coaster?! 😅 jokes aside, I totally agree, they are both awesome and operates differently, but I really love the old one! I also just made a micro scale build of that one, it's so fun!

I had a lot of issues with the cart getting round the 2018 rollercoaster so much so that it would never make it round so I decided to polish the wheels and the track and it works amazingly

I may be late to this one, and I don't know if anyone's pointed this out yet, but I JUST went over the momentum problem with my dad, and we found out that the tips of the wheels were being dulled. The cars that don't make it back around have wheels that are slightly narrower than the fresh new wheels that came with my new roller coaster. Because the tips are slightly duller, they rock back and forth more in the carriages, which causes the loss of momentum. I contacted Lego about this and they are sending me out new wheels. Before I put them in, I'm going to polish both the carriages and the wheels to try to prevent the tips from dulling again.

If you build the 2018 roller coaster correctly and load the carts properly it goes back to the chain 100 % of the time. However maybe you just had bad luck with some manufacturing tolerances.

It's hard to choose between these two because they look great in their own ways but I'd have to say the loop is better than the original just due to the originality of including not only a big drop but a couple of loops and the functionality of the chain mechanisms work better on the loop. Great comparison and both great choices for any LEGO city. Awesome comparison Bricksie.

My LOOP roller coaster has some issues grabbing the elevator, gotta investigate. The elevator is a bit loose uppon grabing which should not be the case. Not happening when moving the counterwieight cart over its full vertical course. Any suggestions?

The 2018 coaster was in continuous motion at the Lego Store in NYC for days on end with the power source. Your tracks might be dusty or something. I know you cleaned the wheels.

I had to tweak a bit with the red coaster but once you get it I can run it for hours on one motor which attaches on the other side

I have the 2018 one and I was looking for this comparison, thanks. I’m still on the fence on this new one, the short time to complete the circuit kind of disappointed me a little bit. I may want to get the new one but probably not a day one purchase considering other great sets are coming on August.

Maybe check your chain or quantity of links on the 2018. Ours runs for hours without fail and has never had that issue.

I have an issue with my 2018 coaster. Everytime I try to crank the chain crank to bring it up, mostly when the cars are going up, It makes a ticking noise (tooth skipping [as mentioned in the video of the Loop])and has been doing it for years, even if I hook up a motor to it. It has really been annoying me and I just want it to run and work smoothly. Tightening and loosening the chain by one doesn't help, I even rebuilt the area where the car meets the chains. Still ticks, I just want the coaster to work properly without me worrying about anything.

Which one is easier to build (never built a lego fairground rides or roller coasters unless you count 3-in-1 Ferris wheel and the 3-in-1 fairground carousel sets)

I hook a motor up to my roller coaster. But now the crank tourning part is tight. and the chain whant tourn nor the crank Not Shaw what s happened..

I love both of them visually but obviously I havnt gotten the 2022 coaster yet but I have a preference for the longer ride time Minifigs in the cars adding the extra weight makes it run much smoother You wouldn’t think a gram or two would make much difference but it does I do wonder how long the string will last before it stretches or breaks in the 2022 model

For the chain slip remove a couple of of the small chain link pieces. I had the same issue on the haunted mansion set and removing some of the track elements and making the entire link tighter didn’t cause any slipping

On the 2018 one The Ticket Booth is the Entrance . Step back and look hard and you will see it . Look at the steps going up to the Platform .

Chain is skipping because of too little tension in the chain - need to remove one or two of the small links, and that should solve it

I had the gear slip on my Loop Coaster. Fixed it by removing a single small link from the chain.

I have no problems with my 2018 coaster, I think its because I actually bothered counting the pieces for the chain lift 😎😎. If theres a problem, I recommend trying make sure that theres actually 203.

you should fix the gear skipping if they skip to much it could wear out the gears and they would no longer work

My 2018 coaster works fine. I even had three trains on it and ran perfectly. The new one slams and causes pieces to come loose after a few runs.

I didn't get the 2018 Roller Coaster because it was WAY too big but I really wanted it. This coaster to me fixes everything that the old one failed on, with taking less space, taller and of course the loops. While it's $100 AUD more I think that in the long term it will be worth it.

Dude, correct me if I'm wrong, but your table has wheels, and is on a carpet. Not sure how sturdy that is for the coaster working efficiently. Maybe it worked better when it was tilted downward, like when you leaned on the table, and manually cranked it... worked continuously. Maybe prop the table slightly up on the crank side, to see if thats enough to let it run 100%.

I found that if you connect all the cars together (6cars) on the 2018 coaster it runs much better

@bricksie Great videos. I think the 2018 is running too slow. It’s probably a build up of tidy dust particles on the axels, wheels and track. Blow them down with air and then spray the wheels and axles with ‘silicon spray’ (from a bicycle shop). Spray this on a cloth and wipe onto the track as well. The 2018 will go twice as fast as it does now. Silicon spray is a dry and won’t drip or leave any stickiness.

I think I know how to fix the old roller coaster to work more efficiently get a bigger train the attach the train farther into the track so the carts will attach

Great comparison , I like the 2018 version better , probably because that is the style I grew up with . Somehow the old wooden coasters had that ' fear factor ' ?? that the newer metal coasters lack , although the newer ones are faster !! , still like the older style . Later 😃👍

My 2018 coaster really sucked. I loved it from the moment I saw it, but once I got it, it had nothing but problems. After maybe a month of owning it, the cars started not catching the chain at the bottom. Then the actual mechanism became very hard to turn. The crank bends very badly because of all the friction for some reason. Then one set of the cars started having bearing issues with one of the wheels. The other set worked fine so I just parked the faulty set on the spare track. Then the other set of cars randomly started having issues with the wheels as well. I’ve rebuilt the entire mechanism, adjusted the length of the chain multiple times, and have literally superglued sections of the track to keep them down and it still doesn’t work. It’s a cool looking set, but it just doesn’t work. Don’t pay for it. I’ll definitely get the new one though. The mechanism looks more reliable, and I like the look of it much more. Great vid 👍🏻

I see lot of comments about the problem with the Coaster 2018, but honestly mine works flawlessly, I can leave both cars running for an hour with the motor on, I just believe you have to build it perfectly ans is very difficult, also you have to find the perfect number of chains to use, one more or one less makes the difference

Both are incredible, but it’s easier to get lost in space staring at the loop. Also Bricksie, I spent $575 total for a sealed pet shop and Parisian restaurant that I found in the US! Do you think that was a steal?

@@Bricksie The Pet Shop was the lowest compared to any listing on bricklink and the Parisian restaurant was a pretty good price for being mint. I was hoping for a better retired Modular selection at Brickworld Chicago but I was out of luck but still had so much fun. And I’m very happy regardless of the almost $600 price tag to add two more retired Modulars to my collection
