Nice to hear someone understanding the way of shooting a rangefinder camera rather than complaining about it not being a DSLR.

2-3 Stops overexposed is my choice of shooting! At F1.2 (85mm or 55mm) and 1/500th of second and use ASA 400 film grain. Great episode as per your usual my friend! Love the Mustang capture! Cheers from UT!

Such a great review!! I absolutely love my M2, but Im not going to lie, this review had me considering making the switch. haha.

Mine was built in 1968. My dad bought it new and used it everywhere; Ireland, Accra-Ghana, Singapore, Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, Jahire Bahru, Brunei, Hong Kong, etc. It STILL works and I put at least 4 rolls thru it every year. I use a Weston Master V lightmeter. And yes I used to dev & print, myself (don't miss smelling of 'fixer' on a Saturday eve!).

Leaves apartment to go for a walk, ends up in Japan. lol

Great review! I sold my M6 and got an M2 and haven't looked back. If you're looking for a good lens, I highly recommend the Summaron 35/2.8. It's super compact, has a nice focus tab and all the lens reviews say it's as sharp as the 35mm ASPH summicron.

The M4 is by far my favorite camera, I happen to also use the Summaron 35mm f3.5 LTM, a compact and efficient setup !

Hey man, your video appeared in my feed. Fantastic review and an excellent video. I loved the mixture of POV and behind the scenes footage. I lusted after an M3 for years but ended up with a lovely M4 with a Ziess Biogon f2 about six months ago. I think it’s a fantastic camera but I really want to try out the M2 because I like the look of the Knurled rewind knob and metal advance lever. I am also saving for an M6 as sometimes I simply want the inbuilt meter. Thanks for sharing, I just subscribed. Enjoy Japan, it looks amazing.

Such a pleasure to see a new video about M4, you can't event find that much of people talking about this lovely machine! I got it last year and done like 400 rolls already with a Summicron 35/2 v1 and 50/2 v4. The only problem I hate about is the finder without a correction lens``` It destroyed my last glasses··· OTL

Dig the video, but the M6 was not the first Leica with a meter. The M5 was, and it is a beautiful beast of an under appreciated camera.

It is really almost the perfect camera. For people who dont need a light meter it is!

I love my M4. Paired with a 35mm lens (in my case, the Voigtlander Color-Skopar 35mm f2.5), it's my favourite camera and the one I use almost daily. However, after having used both the M4 and an M3 (which I also own) for a number of years, I have to say that I prefer the M3's loading system to the M4's 'quick load' system: with the M4, it's much easier to misload a roll of film by mistake and replace the bottom plate without realising that the film hasn't been engaged by the sprockets and delivered onto the takeup spool. That happened to me once or twice when I first got the camera and I watch out for it every time I load it now; on the other hand, I've never misloaded my M3. But on balance, then M4 is my favourite Leica M camera.

always a great review from you, i like how your reviews are more on the feel and usability than technical. i remember your Nikon FE video, which made me buy one and now i use it more than the F3. Have you tried the canonet QL17 GIII range finder? nowhere close to a Leica of course but i figured since people call it the the poor mans Leica, it would be a good comparison for your kind of review.

you should also mention on your video , the old leica lenses will go on leica digital , also summar means f2 nocton means F1.8 F1.4 F1.2 noctolux F.95 is the best lens in the world ,giving sharp focus at .95 better than canon nikon at f2 ,

If you like rangefinders maybe youll like a Canon 7s with one of the 50mm lenses. I really love mine and I was lucky to get it. Also nice vid :)

Nice review, I was stuck trying to choose between the M2 and M4 when I decided to take the plunge and buy a Leica. I ended up with an M2 because the right camera came up for sale with a recent CLA at a good price. I don't regret it. The difference in loading is a non issue (still really easy to load and pretty much impossible to get wrong) as is the knurled rewind knob. For what it's worth I'd say don't worry too much about finding one in such nice condition. I think that a Leica looks good with a little wear and tear (not abuse) and brassing is a sign that it has been well loved and used for what it was intended for. The money saved by not buying mint can pay for a CLA so that it is good to go for another however many years.

The Leica M5 was the first to add a light meter and’s the best Leica M together with the M3. Street photography and general purpose photography isn’t something that just became popular these days that’s literally what the M system was built for.

Have you ever used the Contax T3? Heard it was a good point and shoot for 35mm but it’s on the pricey side and I haven’t found any stores in Melbourne that stock them (by doing a google search) Keep up the videos :)

I may be weird and I know you were exaggerating, but I actually hate when I can't hear/feel a shutter going off. I want to know I just did something. It would be like shooting a gun with no recoil or using a point and shoot with a fake shutter noise.

GUYS i know this is unrelated but yall the only good channel with film cameras that i watch. i found an old PN919, the reader's digest crash camera version of the vivitar pn2011. how do i know its working? how do i use it? whats the little scrolling thing on the inside, between the two ends for the film reel? H E L P

Before you say the M4 or M3 is the best built.... try a M7, MP or MA.. They are modern versions with the ability of easier repairs or parts plus the light meters are more accurate. No matter which Leica upi pick, even the old M5 they are all hand built metal cameras

Where did you buy your strap ?

Just a small correction. The M5 was the first M with built in light meter, not the M6! The M5 is of course of the black sheep of the M family, however many say it has the most accurate meter of any M. It is the lost classic, and one which I am a proud owner of. Great videos btw, I had an FE, great camera too.

Really honest opinions about leica which I totally agree with. I love my MP (0.58x) a lot and I peronally thinks its the best of all the M's. Don't settle for Bessa, Canon or Nikon rangefinder copies. They may be rangefinders too but leica is the legit one to get. As for glass, get leica glass! not zeiss. You spent money to get Leica camera use Leica glass. Older glass is great and lower in contrast but buy from reputable dealers (in Japan). New glass is contrasty with better coatings - mainly for newer digital M's. Leica is the shiz-nit. I use to talk trash about Leica geeks, until I tried one then I bought one asap.

Yeah, well, that Summaron 35mm lens is OK, but don't get the sun (or any light source) anywhere near the front of the lens. It's really a 1940s-50s lens. The later Summicron is lightyears better. Lenshoods are necessary in any case.
