We have been asked many times to film Leicester City Centre so we picked up the Gimbal Walk TV cameras and headed there for a walk around the city to check out the streets, shops, the Christmas shopping and the tourist attractions in the fun and vibrant city!
Leicester is a city I've visited very briefly and always liked so it was great to have a proper look around and it was even better than I thought it would be with a great city centre, busy with shoppers and some great businesses there too!

My wife went on a course for work in Leicester and I went with her. While she was attending that I went for a look around the city because we've never been before. I was totally blown away by it! It was at the same time king Richard's body had been found so there was a exciting buzz about the place! Thoroughly enjoyed it!

I grew up in Leicester and left when I was in my 30's I moved to Michigan USA, then to San Diego USA, and recently moved to North Carolina, but my heart will always be in Leicester and connecting with old school mates at English Martyrs.

Loved it living in Leicester back in the 80/90's, but Leicester was a different animal back then. Nice to see the old landmark and a lot of missing ones too.

Great video. The market is well past its sell by date though; stuck in the past. May be your next video could also cover other parts of the City Centre to include Market Street and the Gresham building, as well as Highcross and Great Central Street developments. Keep up the great uploads.

Excellent walk around of my home town. Not visited there for many years so this was wonderful. The city seems to have suffered the nail and coffee bar takeover, like most, but still holds its own. Thank you.

Fantastic place if you like boarded up shops and charity shops. Watch put for parking wardens they where even out at 11.pm on new years eve booking people last year

I've never been to Leicester before. It sure seems big, with all the traditional shops and American fooderies too lol I like a large outdoor market, I bet its bustling there in the mornings? Starting to look a bit festive too, pretty at night I'm sure?! Like you I like to take pics or videos under trees. You captured the Christmas tree just fine! I especially like photographing Palm trees, where it's warm! ;) Thanks for my first introduction of Leicester. :)

Yes Leicester is nice from what I recall. Though I've not been since the early 1970s. I used to visit a lad there that I was engaged to. I lived in a village up north and he lived on the Braunstone estate.........first time that I'd seen a housing estate so big.

When I was a kid back in the '50's Leicester was vibrant with many smaller shops and lots of people. It looks sanitised and lonely now. Glad I don't live there any more.

It would have been nice to see Highcross (more modern shopping mall) and the Haymarket (art-deco shopping mall)as well as the Queen Street Quarter. Charles Street (which has some amazing architecture on it, both modern and older) is great too. Whilst outside the remit of the City centre, Leicester Train station with it's link to Thomas Cook would also have been nice. Something else, which is perhaps difficult to capture, is just how multicultural Leicester City is. It is one of the things that makes me love the City I grew up in. We all just do our "thing" without using prejudice against people that choose to do different things to us and even getting involved in some of their "things"!! Diwali (largest Diwali celebrations outside of India), Navratri, Caribbean Carnival (largest outside Brazil and London), Mela - to name a few! Oh, any petrolheads here? Leicester is surrounded by racetracks - Kirby Mallory (Mallory Park), Silverstone, Rockingham, Santa Pod, Daytona Milton Keynes and of course Donington Park. What an amazing City!

I love that you liked Leicester, personally I find it depressing af; it used to be beautiful with stunning old buildings now, thanks to the insane planning of the council these old buildings have mostly gone, those that haven't have vile garrish signs all over them and the road system...WOW..and not in a good way. I don't know if you are male or female, but as a female I find people just walk AT YOU in Leicester, thus I avoid the place as much as I can :(

To be fair I can only speak as a visitor I’ve been a couple of times before but only at night to The Cookie music venue for gigs This was my first time walking round and I really enjoyed it - was fun! I don’t have any historical or previous experience of the past though so can’t compare it like you can but as a visitor it’s a great city for a visit!

I've lived in Leicester all my life..compared to similar sized cities it doesn't come close..apart from the highcross shopping centre it's just boarded up and empty shops,the once famous market is now not worth a visit and it's ran by a piss poor Labour council....

Would not go out my way to visit. They need to keep it clean. This is my town, born n bread here tho I am ashamed of it. In the 70s it was great. Now it's so down hill. The medieval parts are good still tho. Leicester has so much history that's been ripped from it. Sad times now.

The thought that kept coming to my mind was "Do they know its Christmastime at all?". What a miserable place!!! Only one good thing, they beat Birmingham when it comes to public seating.

Great video just a shame Leicester is a dump. I left 27 years ago now and the town has changed so much. I miss the good old days when the whole town came alive at Christmas with all the decorations especially the window displays at Lewis. I still visit Leicester as I still have family there but don’t visit the town as I don’t feel safe there anymore.

Leicester now is a hell hole. Full of charity shops, cheap tat shop, the market is nothing like it used to be, it once had a brilliant fish market, which now has gone and replaced with a new one which is rubbish. Few yrs back it used to have a fantastic Christmas market with stalls lining the streets, but now because they don't want to upset a certain community all that has been canceled. I've lived in Leicester all my life and now won't go in the city centre anymore. Go to Birmingham or Nottingham even Lincoln where they still celebrate Christmas with out the fear of upsetting anyone.

Christmas is still celebrated though? They had a lovely little event just outside the Showcase Cinema last Christmas with a ton of fake snow and stuff raining down from atop a building and some tunes. Some nice little stalls and stuff too. I've never seen anyone get mad at Christmasy stuff in the city centre last year when it happened.

Truth is many residents of Leicester don't want to go into that filthy scruffy looking town any more.. As for atmosphere.. Only an atmosphere of fear.. Pervades this city...

Not true. Go to Leicester during the busy times of the day or early evenings on a Friday and everyone looks relaxed and content with life. There's no fear or anything that you describe it just feels like a normal everyday city. The only negatives are the people on the streets begging for money(Some of which walk up to pedestrians) which the police dont seem to be doing much to tackle. Its usually the same suspects day after day.

@@matthew90276 i work all around Leicester and live near.. In speaking from experience.. The people i work for and speak to every day many older folk tell me how tge city has gone down hill.. And they are afraid to go into the centre.. Many local residents have told me this...im not so old but still tend to keep out of Leicester its not a pleasant place at all

@@GimbalWalkTV nothing! But their J's nkt enough flats for people who live in Leicester housing problem and they making posh flats And the students Flats are built more than not Many are happy with it
