Finally, someone who’s not completely shitting on a guy who’s doing his best work as a voice actor.

The more I play the game the more his new VA grows on me! He gives Zack the boyish charm and energy that he's known for.

"That's not even funny man" is easily in my top 5 quotes in... everything.

i have just realized that Zack's love for his hometown echoes Yuffie's one for her own town. Cloud and Tifa, on the contrary, prefer to avoid thinking of Nibelheim, so does Barret with the mine town. Actually, Zack and Yuffie are the only two characters who think of their hometown in a positive way. I have never noticed that.

I'm still not 100% sold on the new VA, but this compilation is helping with adjustment.

I’m on the camp of adoring all of the new FF7R project English VAs. In FF7R, they bring these characters to life in ways that they never did before. Even *a certain someone* at the end of FF7R and the post-credits scene of INTERmission sounds as heartwarming and endearing as ever (minus the delivery of the iconic line being different, but not bad). That being said, I don’t believe the problem with Crisis Core Reunion’s awkward voice lines (Zack in particular) is the new VAs, but rather attempting to fit into the voice direction, old lip-syncing, and awkward, old JRPG-ish dialog of the original Crisis Core. Some characters do better than others, but Zack will have (hopefully) many a moment to shine when FF7 Rebirth comes around.

So I’ve never played the original Crisis Core. I just started playing this new one and I honestly like Zack’s voice. He’s funny and quirky and a direct contrast to the others. I think all the FFVIIR voice acting has been great. It’s just the right balance for me. They all match their character. Also this is hilarious 😂

That he is. Especially when you have the privilege of hearing “no way, he ate my hair” and other revolutionary tidbits in HD.😂

as much as his new VA is lacking in the emotion department, the funny department is BUMPIN

Gotta say, after initial dislike of Caleb's performance during what little we get to see during the other games, after spending a good 60 hours with him on my playthrough of Crisis Core over the last few days and going back and seeing OG scenes..... I've grown to actually PREFER the new VA. Much more fitting for Zack's high energy, reckless puppy vibe than the deeper, more badass sounding voice of Rick Gomez. Both did great of course in their roles, and ofc that's no disrespect to Gomez, he was the origin for bringing Zack to life, but I think as the archetype of the character is, a slightly younger, higher pitched, kinda 'kid at heart' voice suits him better now than I would've thought before. (also what a great edit lol, I stumbled onto the OG one a little bit ago and was wondering if there was a remake version and that it'd be funny if you did that, and then KZfaq said 'well actually, here ya go!')

All of the new VAs have performed well and I personally think the new voices still fit the characters- and maybe a better fit for a couple. With Zack, there are some moments where his lines sounded a little stiff, but overall, he did great with capturing Zack’s puppy-like nature and still maintained his charm, just in a different way than the original VA! There was enough respect to do that at least. I can respect everyone’s opinions, but seeing how people dog on the new VAs (especially for Zack) doesn’t sit right with me. Rather than celebrating the fact that these rookie VAs filled important roles, and performed well as iconic characters in such iconic titles, most would rather stay stuck on comparing the works of VAs with different levels of experience, different skill sets, and different interpretations of their character.

Y'know, after watching this vid, I actually like how much more dorky Zack is now XD.

I think people are just too attached to whoever they hear do a role first. I didn't play Crisis Core because I didn't have a PSP. So my first time playing the game was the rerelease. Zack sounded somewhat Axel (from Kingdom Hearts) aligned. Fun, optimistic, energetic, but with some pathos and emotional depth. I've relistened to the OG and I get why people liked Rick Gomez's performance, but he didn't capture the sheer enthusiasm of youth. When Zack's whole world falls apart I think Rick did quite well there. I just can't identify any lines Caleb did poorly on.
