Lemmy Kilmister Old interview. His thoughts on Metallica, Megadeth and more.
Lemmy Kilmister was the iconic frontman of the heavy metal band Motörhead. Known for his gravelly voice, wild stage presence and dedication to rock 'n' roll, Lemmy was a legendary figure in the music industry. In this old interview, he shares his thoughts on some of the biggest names in metal - Metallica and Megadeth.
When asked about Metallica's success and their impact on the metal scene, Lemmy had nothing but praise for the band. He admired their musicianship and work ethic, saying "Metallica is a great band. They write great songs and they put on a hell of a show." He also acknowledged their influence on younger bands, stating "They've opened the door for a lot of other metal bands to get through. They deserve all the success they've had."
But Lemmy didn't hold back when it came to his thoughts on Metallica's former guitarist, Dave Mustaine, and his band Megadeth. He criticized their attitude and behavior, saying "I don't like Megadeth at all. I think Dave Mustaine is just a miserable git." He also called out their music as being unoriginal, stating "Megadeth is just a bad version of Metallica. They try too hard to be heavy and technical but they lack the soul that Metallica has." This may have been due to personal conflicts between Lemmy and Mustaine in the past.
Despite his criticisms, Lemmy still recognized the impact that Metallica had on the metal genre and their influence on younger bands. He stated "They've opened the door for a lot of other metal bands to get through. They deserve all the success they've had." This recognition shows that while he may not have been a fan of their music or behavior, Lemmy understood and respected their contributions to the industry.
In addition to his thoughts on Metallica, Lemmy also shared his views on other popular metal bands. He praised Black Sabbath as being pioneers of the genre and called Judas Priest "the best heavy metal band in the world." He also showed admiration for AC/DC's longevity, saying "They're still doing it after all these years. That takes dedication and determination."
Lemmy's words serve as a testament to the lasting impact of metal music and the influential power of bands like Metallica. Despite their controversial reputation, they have been able to break barriers and gain recognition from both fans and fellow musicians.
Today, Metallica continues to be one of the most successful metal bands in history, selling millions of albums worldwide and headlining major festivals and tours. Their influence can also be seen in countless younger bands who cite them as a major inspiration.
But beyond their musical accomplishments, Metallica has also made a significant impact in other areas. They have used their platform to address important social issues such as mental health, addiction, and environmentalism. They have also been actively involved in charitable causes, including their own All Within My Hands Foundation which focuses on supporting workforce education, the fight against hunger, and disaster relief efforts.
Despite being in the music industry for over three decades, Metallica remains relevant and continues to evolve. They have experimented with different genres and collaborated with various artists, always staying true to their unique sound and message.
In an industry where trends come and go, Metallica has remained a constant presence, solidifying their place as one of the greatest bands of all time. Their dedication, authenticity, and resilience are just some of the reasons why they have such a devoted fan base.
So whether you're a die-hard metalhead or simply appreciate good music, there's no denying the impact that Metallica has had on the music world. But beyond their musical achievements, the band has also used their platform to raise awareness and support important causes.
One cause that Metallica has been particularly passionate about is hunger and disaster relief efforts. They have donated millions of dollars to organizations such as Feeding America, All Within My Hands Foundation, and Global FoodBanking Network. These donations have helped provide meals for those in need during times of crisis and supported long-term solutions for fighting hunger.
Metallica also uses their concerts as a way to give back to communities in need. In 2019, they performed a special benefit concert in San Francisco where all proceeds went towards supporting wildfire relief efforts in California.
Through their music and actions, Metallica shows us that being successful doesn't just mean selling

He kept in touch with his audience. I met Lemmy after a motorhead show in Australia in the early 80's, he was just sitting at the end of the bar with the rest of the band, it was a local pub, I just started chatting to him over a drink, I shouted him a drink and he started buying me drinks , "anything as long as it's Vodka and Orange", he said. We chatted for about an hour about shit mainly, I was never the fan boy type, and Lemmy appreciated that, What a great night....I'll never forget it....

Think about how you go from being a Motörhead fan as a kid to being friends with them, and in the end Motörhead does a cover of your song.
