Rammstein formed in East Germany before the fall of the Berlin Wall and were required to submit their songs to the government for approval. Not surprisingly, they had two set lists, one for the government and the one that they actually performed.

My old high school teacher used to smuggle rock music into the Soviet Union from the west. After being caught by the police for selling records to his classmates he was interrogated by the KGB for days on smuggling charges. As soon as he was released he and his mother escaped to Sweden on a small boat over the sea. He told us he can never return to Russia because if he does the KGB will arrest him for escaping and the old smuggling charges. Honestly coolest teacher I’ve ever had.

I remember once finding a rare Led Zeppelin bootleg from the USSR once in the U.S., wish it wasn’t $50 or I would have bought it, it was so cool. Also, funnily, the guy at the store mentioned that it was actually a very high quality bootleg too, same quality as the original record, except the text was all in Cyrillic. So interesting.

Here in San Diego, there's a very popular rock music radio station with the call letters KGB. Now solely an FM station, at first it was both AM and FM. The AM KGB played more softer rock while its FM twin offered more edgier fare. KGB has promoted many rock concerts over the years. It even had its own set of albums called Homegrown which featured many local rock bands. X-ray records sounds like it could be the legit name of a record company.😎
