I was about to put charging wires directly to second mosfet but I did not have the balls to do it. I found schematics, and the board itself is like 40-50 euro with cpu attached. But I tried your method and everything worked. Thank you , good man.

Thanks Sorin for this diagnostic, I just discovered your channel and I love the way you are thinking and workind. Electronics without shortcuts is like doing world tour in Moonwalk :) Sometimes it is the only way to repair (yes, it should be used as last resort). Since client always want cheap, I propose 2 solutions : Cheap (shortcut without any garanty and only God willing) and expensive (board replacement, parts purchase/replacement). I inform the client of the benefits and inconvenience of each solutions. Many thanks for what you are doing, and "Noroc si sanatate !".

Hi Sorin and a happy new year. First of all. I wanted to thank you for all your work here and thing you teaching us. You teached me a lot in understanding, thinking and doing. Nice that you want go now the professional way and want try to do no dodgy way :-) I understand that it can be sometimes difficult for a repair shop that have to fight with time and costs. As an enhanced beginner I wanted to give you a tip for next repair videos. Please noticed this not as an advice. Begin all repairs with volt checking from charger to charging ports on boards to batterie . Then do always when if possible and even if not necessary a bios reset. That should also be even if not necessary always the first steps in procedure. Sometimes like you showed it, it happened a lot in eg frozen io Bios chips. Ram checks or remove a hard drive can also be rare thing of not working or booting. This Steps are quick and didn't cost you a lot of time on start. Someone told me a time ago when if I remember correctly in this same case on Ideapad. That it has to do with the power management. The batterie discharged to low and is blocked to charge again or fully charged. What exactly it solved I didn't know anymore. If it was charging the batterie manual full to reset the charging power management on the mainboard that blocks it or the charging management of the pcb of the batterie.

Just keep doing repairs like you always have. That’s what we love about your channel. What you call dodgy is genius to most of us. If it works like it should when your done it’s not dodgy, it’s done and working.

it is already awesome to bring to life a non working board, consider the work under pressure thinking that if it takes too much time to get the job done that will be zero profit for the shop, and since the shop is probably not Apple Inc. even half an hour matters. I think it's beautiful how he can revive a dead laptop in just an hour and then be ready to move on to the next one.

This video is extremely helpful. I am having this same problem with a Dell Precision M3800 that I am working on. Customer had a damaged charging port, and a bad internal battery. Replaced both and the laptop ran for the rest of the day but I did not realize it was not charging. The battery icon on the task bar showed it was charging but it really wasn't. The laptop was just running off the pre-charged battery. When it finally died I had no clue why it wasn't charging with a new port and new battery. The symptoms I am experiencing is very similar to this case. No power, not charging, not coming on.

Personally I am totally grateful to all who are part of this Discord family because it has really changed my life. The manufacturer does not want you to repair it. That is why they have priority chips installed. They don't have to publish the pinouts. They would rather have you return it to them for repair or purchase a new unit, Because of this you are forced to develop ways to work around the problem (be dodgy??). As you develop these repair methods you increase your value to the customer (and employer). You should never have to apologize for your knowledge or work ethic.

I have 2 laptops with a similar problem. I would love to see you actually troubleshoot the issue to understand that part. Is it always the charging chip, or can it be a mosfet there too? I have an Asus and a Toshiba with a similar issue : new battery, plugin sign (does not mean charging, it will show when logged in) but battery not charging. Laptop works from battery ,starts from it too. Schematics are usually findable, but still, how to troubleshoot? I saw another channel showing the use of a oscilloscope to check the data lines of the battery to if it had a sane signal. Will try that route first, because there it was a bad mosfet on the charging power supply I think. thanks for sharing!

Hi Sorin! Love your videos! I have been devouring your videos for hours a day lately, mostly because my predator 17 laptop is on the fritz. I wanted to ask you a question, but i understand beginners asking you questions can be pretty frustrating. i'll ask anyway, because i havent come across a video yet that shows me exactly what fault to look for. so my laptop will sometimes boot, and sometimes wont. when it does boot it freezes in usually 5 minutes where i have to hard shutdown. it used to take like and hour before it froze and it would boot back up, but not really anymore. so i went and multimetered the board and after a few days i have noticed that a couple of mosfets are reading 30v+. should i be looking for bad capacitors, bad mosfets, or bad transistors? should i concentrate on chips? (im clueless on a lot of this stuff but im trying to learn) your insight would be much appreciated or anyone who reads this and knows their stuff. it seems obvious that 2 19v rails are shorting somewhere, but i dont know which components are the likely cause. thanks everyone, and thanks for your awesome instructional content!
