Replaced mine with a cable from aliexpress for 5$, all good. When you open the lid around the lcd panel (the credit card part in the video), try flexing it off from the inside and then it will easily pop out. I tried it from the outside innthe beginning and broke two of the plastic hooks, so now its not tight on that area but its fine. 6 year old laptop, dont expect much more but still rocking hard!

Thank you very much. I just used this video to change the LCD screen cable to stop screen flicker. It took more than 3 hours, but I did it in the end. My laptop works again. This Y500 I have has done hundreds of hours now, probably thousands. And it is still more than capable of doing all the tasks I need. I also appreciate this as I think my wife thought I would not succeed. Mind you she was right as I didn't think I would manage it either.

Thanks for this. I didn't realize how involved removing the cable was going to be. Obviously I skipped some steps but without this it would've taken hours to figure out how to get to it.

Just replaced my cable today from Amazon for $14. Worked like a charm even though it was nerve-wracking to take the whole laptop apart within a couple of hours. Have had this thing since early '14. One hell of a brand and machine. Enjoy yours guys and take good care of it!

Since at least 4 this screen issue is driving my crazy. 3 years ago I found out, that it's the cable and after I saw your video I finally tried it yesterday. On many points I thought: "Fuck, this notebook will never ever start again" 😂 But luckily everything went fine and now I can finally use my notebook again, instead of letting it gather more dust. This fixed the problem where my Y500 would boot to its external display when the screen was opened more than 50 degrees.

There is a company on UK Ebay called Hillchoice on ebay who sold me the cable. I also bought a fan from them some years ago that is still working.

I had the same problem in my y510p so I did everything right and even changed the wire. For first 2 days the flickering went now it again returned back.. what might be the root cause? Though this is an old laptop its still rocking hard. Still on a journey to solve this manufacturing defect.

My ideapad y500’s screen is also flickering.. i wonder weather cable or screen is problem ?? Is there any problem u faced during the whole process ?? What are the neccesary things u did to get this process correct ? Please share .. i want to attempt the same.

Thanks for making this. Do you think it would be much different on the y510p? I kind of doubt it since the only difference seems to be the gpu, but I'm not sure. One problem I have is one of my corner screws spins but doesn't come out. I kind of wish you'd shown the full reassembly. I'm definitely more worried about putting it back together than I am about taking it apart. Anyway. Kudos.

Man, I have the very same problem with a Y510p that is over 4 years old and I'd rather ask my wife to authorize me buy a MSI. Nice video though but I'm 50 and I got scared by so much things to do to fix it (plus my battery is long dead so another excuse to spend money).

Can someone help me with just disconnecting the display completely so that it forces the laptop to boot to an external display either via hdmi or via the vga port. I have manually unplugged the larger fat connector that I found just by opening the back panel i.e. beside the fan area! Urgent help needed to reinstall Windows 10. @London PC Repair If you're watching this please help. You have shot the display amazingly. Just that what part does what I don't know. Need basic knowledge to just unplug the display and get bios running on my external monitor.

Is the Lenovo Ideapad y500 still usable now aday? Im assuming that it gets outdated, dont know much about laptops but i have one broken and want to repair it. Thank you for any help/advise that can be given in advance.
