Sounds like a software driven issue, maybe try updating the drivers? Hardware issue is also a possibility. Could be that the keyboard itself is going out. Check and see if updating the driver on it helps, if not, I would contact Lenovo and ask if I were you

I would go with go with 2 x 8GB, just in case you have a bit more demanding application, it has a bit more working room. I do video and photo editing so I went all out with 32GB.

Hey, sorry for the late reply, been busy. Yes, the machine does work with 32GB of ram in it. Now there are different Y700 models, I would suggest you go to www.crucial.com to see if yours is compatible with 32GB of RAM. I have only a Samsung 850 Evo M.2 in mine for the OS and used the HDD that the computer came with. It can handle video editing with no problem.

You might not see a difference in day to day, but if you are working with CAD design, i think the program might appreciate it.

I checked them as well before I purchased the RAM. I honestly couldn't tell you why they only have it listed at 16GB. I went to crucial.com to check and see what it would support, and it showed 32gb. I used them all the time to check the actual memory capacity and what type of RAM would be safe to be installed in the system.

It should support a 1tb M.2. I am running a 512gb Nvme and a 2tb SSD inside the machine.

Unfortunately you cannot upgrade the CPU because it is on the main board. It would help if you upgrade the RAM to at least 16GB and the SSD will help you with load times and longer battery life. One thing that might help you is to check on the vents to see if they have any dust in them. If it is dusty, it is preventing proper cooling, meaning the CPU and GPU have to be throttled down to compensate.

Unfortunately it is embedded in the actual motherboard. Normally you cannot upgrade anything on a laptop. Certain high end "Gaming" laptops, you can take out parts and replace them.

I don't think you can do a E-GPU on this unit. I don't know how people are able to rig them to work over the slot for the wifi. It would be a very slow connection since it is a pci-e x1 slot. So any graphics card would struggle on that port. You need a thunderbolt port on the computer for it to be able to take advantage of E-GPU's (like the Razer laptop).

StaR Ryez acronis true image seems to work well. I usually do a clean install. Easiest way is to get a external enclosure for HDD and use acronis true image to clone your OS.

Check out www.crucial.com and see which one it is compatible with. As far as the screen, it doesn't matter if it is a 4k or not.

They do not have adhesive. They have thread lock on them to keep the screws from unscrewing themselves.

+Ryan Francis Well you don't remove the plastic, its part of the bottom piece. When you start taking the bottom off, just kind of push the bottom cover toward the back of the unit and the speaker covers should slide out like in the video.

You should be able to find transfer software on samsungs website. I had a fresh copy of windows 10 and didnt want/need all the lenovo software.

Sorry for the late reply. My Y700 came with a optical drive and I had a physical copy of windows 10. As far as the key, Windows 10 recognizes with motherboard that was originally on with win 10 installation key. So if you have a copy of windows 10, you really don't need a key, since win 10 servers will recognize that it is a legit machine that had windows 10 installed at 1 point. Hope that helps

I mainly use the machine for video and photo editing on it. It can handle pretty much any game though...I haven't tried out Gears of war 4 yet on it, so I couldn't tell ya.

Hey, so far the unit is working flawlessly. I have had lenovo products before and they always seem to work really well. I used to work on computers and Acer's were one of my units that would always have some kind of issue. Other people seem to like them, but I haven't had much luck with acer products. As far as comparing the 2. The lenovo has 4GB of VRAM vs the 2GB on the Acer. Same graphics chip on both. Same intel chips as well. About the same amount of Watts used. The lenovo has an External DVD Drive, the Acer has Internal. The speakers on the Lenovo are amazing. The JBL 2.1 system really is top notch. No chassie vibration at all. The Acer has a usb type c connector on it as well. So its little things here and there. I would stick with the Lenovo, just my personal preference.

I personally use the RipJaws in my machine. You won't see any advantage paying for the TridentZ memory since the computer only works with 2133Mhz memory. You will be over paying but not reaping the benefits of the 3000Mhz memory. Hope this Helps!

You have to check and see how it is configured in your machine. Mine came with 2 sticks of 4gb ddr4, some units ship with a single 8 gb stick. i would suggest to check with www.crucial.com and do the memory scanner to see what is the highest one compatible with your specific machine. Sorry it took a bit to reply. It had your message flagged for some reason. The 8GB SSD is built in to your HDD. Its called a Hybrid drive. Looks like from the pictures of the internals, it does support a M.2 slot which means you can get a bigger SSD. Your SSHD (Solid State Hard Disk) is a Hybrid which you can use as a secondary drive. I personally suggest going to newegg.com, but you can go to almost any electronics store (i.e. Fry's Electronics, Micro Center, Etc.) and purchase what you need for your Lenovo Y700

+pccope05 It depends on the machine that you have. Mine had the M.2 slot and I was able to keep the HDD as well. Some laptops don't have that slot, so that's why you had to take your hard drive out. But most gaming laptops will have that M.2 slot so you can take advantage of the HDD and have a fast SSD

It's a great computer but now I regret not getting the ssd because boot times are slow. The good thing is that I'm going to get a better deal buying the ssd seperately. +pccope05 Well mine came with the 1TB drive and 8GB of RAM. I upgraded both of them. I do game as well, but personally, i don't see a huge difference in load times when you are in game. Of course boot times and just launching apps, yes the SSD is drastically faster. Hope that helps!

You have to check and see if it is 1 single module or if it is dual 2x2. I usually don't suggest getting just a single channel memory. If you are going to do 20GB, I would suggest do 16GB (2x8GB) depending on what you will use it for. I use my unit mainly for video and photo editing, so i went all out with 32GB.

I personally haven't been able to find a single channel when I got my RAM upgrades. You might be able to find some now. But keep in mind, you might not see a performance gain because it is going to be running both in Single channel mode. Hope this helps!

hi, i wanted to upgrade my lenovo y700 but i bought it not long ago and it has a warranty of 2 years so if i dont want to throw the warranty out the window i'll have to wait 2 years to upgrade it... but i dont think i can wait that long XC i've got batman arkham knight in my steam library but it's unplayable with 8gb of ram, it's ridiculous. what should i do? i usually never use the warranty of my devices cause they all work fine and this one seems to be working pretty well too but idk... scared to upgrade and lose warranty and then something happens... also considering buying an ssd... but damn this laptop is a million times easier to upgrade than my previous toaster dell inspiron srs premium sound, it was shitty. It shouldn't void your warranty if you upgrade your RAM. I would contact Lenovo if I were you just to double check, but normally, they allow you to upgrade the RAM, as long as it is the correct RAM that you are buying. (voltage, Amount, etc.)

Yes, for some reason on lenovo's website it shows that they unit only supports up to 16GB, when In reality, it supports up to 32GB. I have 32GB on it now and it works fine. Recognizes all 32GB's of memory

The unit is ddr4 only. It wont support DDR3 sticks at all. But you can have 16gb on one stick...i just havent found single channel ddr4 16gb. All of them are either 16gb dual channel or 32gb dual channel. Essentially 2 x 8gb or 2 x 16gb. Hope this helps

+Ben Sachs I did some research and it looks like a lot of people are needing the thunderbolt plug to make a external GPU (eGPU) work. This unit unfortunately doesn't poses that plug in. Mac computers have that plug natively but only a few PC based machines have that plug.

Usually yes, but on this unit i didnt. I just made sure that there was no power running to it, also force shut down windows by holding button for about 10 seconds. Windows likes putting machines in hibernate when you shut it down. Especially windows 10

The bottom cover of the laptop is holding it in place. It is a very snug connection on the m.2 connection, so it really has no where to go with the cover on. Hope this helps!

No, its a Y700 Touch-15ISK. Are you talking about the M.2 port? If you are talking about the SATA port, your Hard drive is using the only one that the machine comes with. The only other port would be a M.2 Port.

From the picture you took, its a bit hard to see. It is way too close. I checked the specs from lenovos website, but it states it is a PCIe, and it doesn't have a M.2 Port. I would suggest you contact Lenovo for more detailed specs.

Looks like a M.2 SSD type. But the screw to mount the SSD is a bit far away. But the slot is a m.2 for sure.
