Hey guys! In today's video we'll be upgrading the processor in a Lenovo ThinkPad T430 laptop! The original processor, a Core i5 3320M will be replaced with a Core i7 3612QM for a huge speed boost! This process will also be similar on the T410 and T420 laptops, as well as on the 15" T- and W-series counterparts. Enjoy the video!

While the Mill Park incident was an extreme case, dog attacks are more common than most of us think. Monash University figures show that almost four Victorians are hospitalised daily as the result of a dog attack. And the numbers are rising, with a 56 per cent increase in attacks leading to amputation, broken bones and open wounds in the five years to June 2018. Surprisingly, most attacks happen in the home. Monash University’s Victorian Injury Surveillance Unit found that almost 57 per cent of attacks happened in homes, compared to just over seven per cent on the street. The RSPCA’s head of operations, Tegan McPherson, says dog attacks can happen for various reasons and the type or size of dog is not an accurate indicator that it could be aggressive. Aggression is often linked to training, socialising, owner behaviour, temperament and underlying health issues, There are steps you can take to keep you and your family safe: Never approach or pat a dog without the owner’s permission. If approached by a strange dog, let it sniff you and don’t make eye contact. Always supervise young children around dogs. Tegan says toddlers are the most at risk of dog bites because of the way they approach and try to play with dogs. “Throwing their arms around a dog, burying their face in them, climbing on their back - these are all things a predator might do and are seen as a threat,” she says. Learn to recognise signs that a dog might be stressed. Growling and barking are obvious but excessive yawning and holding the tail high or between its legs or laying its ears back can also be signs the dog is stressed and might become aggressive. A dog that freezes and stares is in the most heightened state of stress. If your dog is normally calm then starts to demonstrate fear or anxiety, consult an animal behaviourist or vet in case there is an underlying problem that can be treated. “Dogs can have pathological changes in the brain due to pain or illness which can trigger aggression,” says Tegan. If a dog lunges at you, turn sideways and use your arms to protect your face, neck and body, and use a bag or a jumper to create a barrier. If bitten seek medical attention, no matter how minor the bite, to prevent infection. When your dog reaches three months of age in Victoria, it must be registered with your local council and that registration needs renewal every April. If your dog hasn’t been registered before, it will also need to be microchipped first.

@@oz673 @Carlito Lopez @Optify In China (does not apply to Hong Kong or Taiwan), people are not used to tipping waitresses. They also don't spend a lot of time at the tables or serve / look at what you need at all times, except in places that have the American / European influence such as hotel buffets, etc. There if it is normal to receive tips. That they are offered those hot pot is a form of gratitude for the good service, since the waitresses can obviously eat that food that will be better than what they will give you at lunch / dinner. Tea is part of their culture and a ritual so to speak. Educated people always invite you for tea, not coffee like in Korea. Traditional tea places are really pretty! Beer is very very low almost like having a bitter soda, something like Thai beer, it looks like water. It is also very cheap. It costs a lot more to drink a coffee than to have a beer. In elegant restaurants it is men and from an age of 35-60 years who work in restaurants, the most modern ones now take young university students ... as in the video. I only know Shanghai & Beijin so I can't say much about how it is in other cities or small towns in mainland China. In Hong Kong & Taiwan (also in Japan) they have a habit of eating very fast in restaurants so it is another culture, unless you go to more expensive restaurants

8:20 "be sure you reconnect the fan" yeah I unintentionally tested the thermal capacity of a Dell Latitude E6530 by not doing that here a couple years ago. I got a used E6530 off Ebay and in usual fashion whenever I get a new PC/Laptop I always explode it apart and clean everything as well as re-paste the CPU. Well long story short after applying new thermal paste to the CPU (Arctic Silver 5) I fully reassembled the laptop EXCEPT I forgot to plug in the fan controller for the heatsinks fan. By the way the CPU is a I7 3740QM which is even more powerful then the 3612QM in your Thinkpad. Has a higher base and turbo speed. Making matters even worse the laptop has a dedicated GPU in it as well which shares the same heatsink. The GPU being a Nvidia NVS 5200M. So after installing a new Samsung 850 Evo I'm installing windows and noticing damn this laptop sure runs quiet...very quiet...suspiciously quiet... I reach down by the vent for the heatsink and think yeah I can feel heat wicking away...but why don't I feel heat being forcefully pushed out of the computer?... "OH SHIT!!!" I think to myself as I realize WHY the system seems so amazingly quiet. I never bothered to reconnect the fan for the heatsink. Having felt the top of the keyboard and all over the top of the chassis nothing was worryingly warm so I let the install finish before opening the system back up and correcting the problem. I try to remain un-bias with computer brands but after that experience I learned a whole new level of appreciation for Dell's because while the SSD was getting hammered with the OS install, that CPU wasn't just sitting there doing nothing either and still the system never gave any thermal warnings or issues at all. Moral of the story being just when you think you've got everything completed and it's time to close it up and install the OS, stop, and go over everything once more. You might not get as lucky as I did. Also not being a dumbass would be helpful too...

I did this to my T420. Now, it runs i7-2630QM. It starts with 2.6Ghz 4 cores 8 threads before throttles down to 2.3Ghz in Cinebench R15 test. The score is 368. About 10% slower than the average i7-2630QM systems. But it is as expected since T420 never designed to handle quad cores CPU. My T420 is on par with a modern dual-core i7-7600U.

It runs cool at 55-65 Celcius when idle. TDP is 45W. The fan almost completely silent in light task. i7 quad on T420 always thermal throttled at 97 Celcius and then it gradually reduced the speed before stable at 2.3Ghz. all cores at 85 Celcus.

Hey why did you go with the 3612QM? Is there something you know about insofar as the hierarchy of processing and/or choice of data strands that it receives for reality transceiver reception? Because there seems to be quite a few choices of CPU available... I was wondering if you knew about any choice standings which bridge IVY and SANDYBRIDGE? I believe there was one processor I'd read about which was able to do that. Hmm...
@XxEraserManxX
@XxEraserManxX Жыл бұрын
the X30 series takes sandy bridge and ivy bridge cpus, sandy is a year older and runs hotter, but isn't horrible. The 3612 & 3620 are suggested for the T430 because they have a lower tdp than the other 4 core options for that socket. All sandy bridge 4 core cpus are of the higher tdp and will not play nice with the stock cooling in the T430, but the 15 inch W530 and T530 will have appropriate cooling, but at that point they probably already came with an ivy bridge that out performs whatever sandy bridge cpu you may throw in there.

Honestly at this point it is a crapshoot. You can probably still find used/refurbished/new old stock genuine Lenovo batteries around; these will probably be the best option. If not I *would* try to recommend a certain aftermarket manufacturer over another but the vendors and brands of those batteries seem to change all of the time.

That price is about what those are going for at the moment. With the 3612QM you shouldn’t *have* to upgrade your heatsink, since it is still a 35W CPU.

Very clear and understandable instructions. I have a T410. I'm thinking about putting 16 gigs of Crucial RAM in it. Do you think that will help battery life? I want to improve performance and battery life. Changing RAM is much more within my comfort level as my only experience is with upgrading from and HDD to an SSD in the same machine. I believe I can get low-voltage RAM. Any information on that topic would be greatly appreciated.
@SebisRandomTech
@SebisRandomTech 5 жыл бұрын
The T410 will not accept more than 8 GB of RAM. The T420 and later will take 16. Processing power has more of an effect on battery life than RAM, that’s why Ultrabook laptops can last for 10-20 hours while a full power mobile workstation can only be used for a few hours under heavy load. If you don’t have the 9-cell battery (the pack sticks out the back), I highly recommend it because it increases the battery life and doubles as a handy grip when you’re using the laptop.
@IamDoogy
@IamDoogy 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. And thanks for the reminder about the 8 GB maximum. I did run the Crucial system analyzer on it but I had forgot that fact. Knowing almost nothing about computer systems, I had just assumed that decreasing paging would improve speed and battery life. I have noticed that Intel advertises a lot about more power-efficient CPUs but I didn't realize how important that was to battery life versus the amount of RAM the system is running. Oh, and by the way, I just bought a T440 P. Yes, I love that thing. They're built like a tank and as you've shown, the internals are very accessible for upgrading. I'll be looking for much more content from you, and searching your archives, for everything about changing the back cover, palm rest, screens, SSD…, Etc., Etc. Keep that excellent content coming!

Weirdly I can run prime95 on the upgraded T430 and according to Core Temp 1.12.1 the 3632QM stays at 2.9GHz with 35W dissipation. I'm used to seeing prime95 bring more modern desktop processors down to their base frequency. It does get up well towards 100 degrees Celsius though! Depends on what sort of eGPU you plan on using. I recommend the 3612 or 3632QM processors, since most of the other quad core options will run hotter than what the T430 was designed for. The older hardware of this system will be a bottleneck for modern GPUs.

T440p is definitely easier to upgrade and performs better on the surface. You can upgrade the display to a FHD IPS if it wasn't configured with that from the factory. T430 has the classic keyboard as an option, can use an external GPU and has the ExpressCard slot for expandability, it has the ThinkLight, hot-swappable UltraBay, and the more classic design.

The CPU spec sheet tells you what its TDP (35W, 45W, etc) is. The best ways to keep it cool are high quality thermal paste and good application of said paste, and adjusting the fan curve using something like TPfancontrol to make the fans run faster, getting more air moved.

Hi Sebi, I happy that YT recommended you once , because due to your reviews I bought a T430. But know I need some ideas. Recently I finished my CPU update to a Core I7 3312QM that works very well. I am suffering since cpu upgrade an issue that the carger does not seem to charge the laptop anymore while it is running. But It starts with AC only connected and it even seems to charge the battery when turned off. But When I start it with battery and AC the battery is discharging and turns off when getting below 5%. The charger is an original lenovo FRU/PN45N0314 that gives 20V/3.25A. Might it be thatit does not deliver enough to charge and run the laptop at the same time? And is this due to the CPU change, because both CPUs have TDP 35W. Any clue ? Another point is my bios version is quite old : v2.52. from 02/14/2013.

I'm thinking of getting this T430: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/162589832621 It comes with the dedicated GPU meaning it will have the cooling system you installed. Was the NVIDIA NVS 5400M 1GB the only dedicated GPU option the t430 came with? Also, in the description (of that ebay listing) it says it comes with the Intel Centrino Advanced N 6205. I have that same wifi chip in my X230T, and the reason I couldn't get the 3x3 one is because my X230T has a webcam - meaning it's missing an antenna wire. So I just wanted to know if the same issue occurs with the T430. If a T430 comes with a webcam, is the best wifi chip you can put in it the 6205 or was there another option (without having to change the BIOS etc.). In the description (of that ebay listing) it also says the T430 is missing the smart card reader. Was that an option that could have been added when the t430 was bought new? What does it mean by that. I just want to make sure I buy a T430 with all the maxed out options so that when I do the CPU upgrade, the keyboard upgrade, the battery upgrade and the power adaptor upgrade, I have a FULLY maxed out T430!! Any help with the options that this came with when new will be appreciated. Thanks so much! - keep up the great videos!
