At least it's user upgradable and 256 GB is very sufficient if you don't install aaa games. I'd rather spend the money on more ram, better processor or better screen options as they are not user upgradeable.

Nice review! I'm from Austria and i was able to book the Yoga 9i with 4K OLED, 1260p, 16Gb, 1Tb and it arrivedt in the middle of march. Two days later i shipped it back. The fans had a terrible electronic noise. For example when i was surfing the internet sometimes the fans kicked slightly on. The airbornenoise was definitly quiet or not noticeable in officemode, but the terrible high frequent "coil whinning" was awful. I have knewn that OLEDs consume much more and 4K is also consuming more, but it was the only version at the release in Austria. I just wanted "now" a convertible. Consider with my configuration it was hard to keep the total average wattage (HWiNFO64) below 10 W. Usually in youtube and surfing you have to consider in average 12 Watt, so 6-7h is a realistig "guaranteed" situation withoug a lot of measure to save battery. Maybe in March it was an bad bios-version and maybe Win11 is not so power efficient then Win10. Maybe caused by the included security features? I think, that Intel has optimised the P-Cores much more to IPC and Latency compared to the TigerLake. It's okay, there a the E-Cores, but maybe at this time the ThreadDirector isn't so good optimised. Maybe there is more potential with this architecture but maybe the P-Cores boost to often e.g. when loading a new page in the internet. Nevertheless Samsung Galaxy Book 2 Pro 360 with it's 1260p has less battery life then the predecessor Galaxy Book Pro 360... I hope Microsoft and Intel will optimise that with Microcode (Bios) and Kernelupdates. Now i had a radical decision and I booked the Asus Rog X13, with 6800HS and without the dGPU (only with the iGPU 680M). I don't like the gaming design as much, it has no incredible soundbar and the clickpad has to be compensated a little bit with the touchscreen or ussualy i'm using a normal bluetootmouse. It's not terrible just compared to the yoga 9i! In my opinion this "gaming" convertible is the best all-day and all-purposd thin and light convertible you can get at the moment. It's the only Rembrandt model you can get in the small thin and light convertible class (in Austria). It has a similar high performance, maybe higher in multicore in long term in comparsion to the 1260p The iGPU is much faster and ideal for classic games like e.g. Age of Empires Definitis Edition. The display is not so glossy and the panel achieves now 500nits including 120Hz. So the IPS (FullHD+) with Rembradt instead of OLED (4K, but OLED) with AlderLake has much more battery life. 100% sRGB is enough for me. Most of the material is sRGB and for hobby photography maybe it's enought. Additionally i have a 4K Monitor. At next if you consider to take a Rembrandt 6000series, keep in mind that USB 4.0 isn't automatically included. Asus said, that the USB-C Port on the left side is fully hardware specified and there will come a software update for USB 4.0 so Thunderbolt 3 is included and maybe eGPU (not from Asus) are possible to use! Currently Intel is just good in Performance/Watt with TDP above 45 Watts. Below this wattage AMD isn't losing so much Performance. With Rembrandt AMD has shown, that with more buil-in powersaving-features there is such more to achieve with the x86-architecture. I can't wait to see the new mobile 7000 series from AMD. Then we can compare AMD 7000 and Apples M1 with the identical 5nm process from TSMC. So we will see what Apple has "bought" with 5nm and what is there achievement in architeture design. But don't expect the same efficiency, it's hard to optimise a big CISC x86 to that efficiency. At next Apple is engineering the Software including all the hardware so they can optimise to every product the software and can optimise the hardware much better. For example besided the SoC the DC/DC-Converters etc. But it's insane, what AMD is able to get out of the x86-architecture keeping in mind they are note using any bigLITTLE-principle!

That's funny I'm in the same situation as you, I just decided to keep the yoga. I bought an eGPU case, for which I need thunderbolt 4, and I didn't want to take the chance with the x13. I'm hoping I can replace the fans at some point, you're the fourth person I know of in the EU (including me) that's annoyed by the high pitched whine. I also prefer 14" to 13.3".

@@alazkaaa Hi alazkaa2, laste year i wanted to buy a new notebook and there it was for me, Ryzen 5000 is a more efficient and better multicore, but TigerLake hast Thunderbolt 4. Then in 2022 i wanted to buy a new notebook. Then on the CES 2022 i saw the Yoga 9i and it looked from the specs (soundbar, convertible, oled, etc.) really good. I just took it because i didn't wanted to wait months and additonally AMD and convertible is rare. E.g. Asus Flip convertibles are usually with Intel. Fortunatly the Yoga 9i was awful. I always wanted a less noisy and efficient CPU. That was with the 9i not possible. AMD 6000 is not really more powerfull than AMD 5000, but more efficient, additionally it has USB 4.0, the 680M is really nice also for games on travel (GTA 5, Age of Empires 2 Defn. Edition, etc.) Single-core is not as high as AlderLake but Multicore is equal. Also if you just let the SoC 15 Watt AMD has much higher Perf./Watt than Intel. Sadly Intel hasn't improved the gap, they magnefied it. AlderLake hast more Cache with higher boos clocks, so you will loose a efficiency gain despite the new "efficiency" cores.

@@indiumgalliumnitride5492 I thought Alder Lake gonna be like ARM's big.LITTLE efficiency lol The yoga 7 SKU which available on my country according Lenovo's psref site are 6800U (not available yet on both the local Lenovo webstore and 3rd party online store) and 6600U (not available yet on the local Lenovo webstore, but available at the 3rd party online store). Yeah you can tell from the graphs with alder lake and ryzen 5800u, windows 11 is handling tasks with 16 logical cores in the traditional way. This is why there is little variance from the 1260p and 5800U as the intel chip eeks it out due to higher clock speed until it has to throttle down. The sucky battery life shows there doesn't seem to be optimization for tasks and the problem right now with alder lake is windows 11 doesn't treat task handoff like MacOS especially with the P & E core and dedicated neural engine cores. This unfortunately is also exacerbate by heat output as the windows needs to constantly measure and adjust clock speed as the cpu is running around 20 watts vs 7watts in the M1 Interesting you mentioned the igpu too because even though there are no dedicated AI core there are instructions for deep learning BUT those are tied into the iGPU for hardware accelerating

Apple has 15% market share which has not changed post-M1 chip. Why? Because people don't care about processors which is why business, corporations, educational institutions, nonprofitsk NGOs, and government agencies across the entire planet keep their computing devices for 5-7 years. What people do care about is touchscreen, pen support, face recognition, upgradability, repairability, 2-in-1 design, 180 degree screen, OLED screens, sufficient ports, etc. So MBs can be 10 times faster and more efficient and no one would care.

@@noneofyourbusiness6100 "No one would care" Lol.. except for the billions of people world wide that use iPhones.. iPads.. AirPods.. Apple Watch... and they use Apple Pencil.. have 3d scanning AR compatible cameras.. retina screens, TB4/USB ports and plenty of people care about Mac as well. More so now than ever. Windows has software, hardware, and compatibility going for it. Plus Enterprise, Windows server, group policy. Vendors can't really build systems for Mac either so between Windows and Linux, well, there's only one obvious choice. And, there's plenty of government, educational, enterprise, agencies that use Apple as well. Apple's doing great. They'd be doing even better if they had the same level of software/hardware compatibility though. If Apple had enterprise solution and server OS it would be killing it with Mac. A cluster of M1 Max would be insanely good. Single package cpu/gpu/npu with crazy good efficiency and unified memory allowing massive datasets to take advantage of it. Essentially a gpu with 32 or more gigs of vram.... what's the cheapest GPU with 32g vram? It will certainly cost more than any Mac, that's for sure. Also, people absolutely care about efficiency.. because that equals more battery life and more productive work while on the go. Lemme know how running any GPU intensive task on battery works out for ya on any other hardware... (spoiler alert... nowhere near as good)

I think "Price" and "Practicality" are real deciding factors. The price of apple products is quite high for those simply willing a computing device. As a consequence, they look for cheaper alternatives. Bear in mind that not everyone wants the latest and greatest since they will do some light computing, send emails and after some years, move to another asset. Aside, for specific needs, apple products are not the most practical and viable way to go. Buying one of their products sometimes means having to invest more in their closed ecosystem, which can be even costlier. There are most of the time cheaper and good enough alternatives to apple products. For people on a budget, it is clear which way to go.

Alder lake can compete only if the tests you run are at 10 min max, because after that it throttles into oblivion and still somehow consumes more battery. 5800U is still a no brainer and that is sad. They probably have that kind of marketing where they say the price is ~30% higher than the actual price they're gonna be selling it for. Then they can put a big misleading disclaimer there that the product is on 30% sale which will attract buyers because it makes you feel like you're getting a good deal. This technique is called "fake sale". In some countries it is banned by government for companies to do this as it is misleading towards the customer.

I don't think it's a fair comparison between ADL-P and typical U series processor. First is that there's still 9-15W ADL-U lineup, the second is that I think ADL-P Is something more like the replacement of the former H35 - which aims to be squeezed into the thin-and-light gaming model like ASUS Tuf Dash or MSI Stealth. 13hr-ish battery life is sure not that impressive on Yoga with such huge battery, but if you put this kind of battery life on Tuf Dash, that would be totally amazing.
@ZratP
@ZratP 2 жыл бұрын
It's fair to my opinion. A lot of Intel 1165 (which are U series) were run typically between 15 (in a Surface for example) to 28W (in a Dell XPS or HP Spectre) TDP. Also note that with the Alder Lake 12th gen U, compared to the P series you switch from 4 Performance + 8 Efficiency cores to only 2 P cores and 8 E cores. The problem is we don't know how Windows reacts to this. Between 11th gen and 12th you lose 2 P cores. So you better hope that the additional 8 cores can make up for that. If you have applications typically optimized for 3-4 cores (there are a lot out there) you may face a downgrade of performance as you would run this on 2 P cores + 1-2 E cores on a 12th gen.

There is a Lenovo Ideapad 700 Carbon w/ 5800U + 16GB LPDDR4X + 14" 2.8k OLED (QHD) + quad speakers + 512GB SSD. There is an optional MX350 model as well. Only 2.3LB too. That laptop is much better than the Yoga 9i even if it seems like the 9i stole the screen for the QHD model. Try to get your hands on the Carbon; I managed to find one on ebay even if its "temporarily unavailable" via the Lenovo website... The one I got cost under $1200 too so it seems like it would also be a much better deal than this one.

I was under the similar impression, but that carbon guy doesn't have the pen, the 4k option, and is not 2 in 1 but only a touchscreen. I am not sure about the privacy shutter, presence detection, and window hello, but it seems that doesn't have them. Yogas and thinkpads are their premium work devices, so I guess they keep their best features for this series. I was also excited by the thinkbook plus for the display on the back, but I am not a great fan of the software that runs the second display. And that guy definitely lacks certain important features, and is not 2 in 1. I am crazily searching the internet for a good alternative, and so far I have stumbled upon many alternatives, but every rational decision, with some compromises points to Yoga 9i. Don't underestimate this thing. It has great sound, a fine design, perfect looks and keyboard. And it also comes in many variants, and that kinda is confusing. Because you never know what are you getting yourself in to for a certain price. You find its $1200, and all of sudden you get to know, well, it's not 4k. And then you see it's $2100, and you want to cry, but then you look around the list of features. And they all comes with different titles. Like yoga 9i, 14, gen 6, and 7, etc. etc. Maybe you are a better researcher and know the subject well, but I am just saying I have put in some effort to come up with the decision. The thinkpad x1 yogas are a little off the table because of the price tag, and also they doesn't stand a chance in the field of looks and design. If you want to tell me that it's pricy. It is. And it's capitalism, so just deal with it. I think the devices aren't worth all the money. But we are programmed to need it. I want it, so bad, to be honest. Even after I saw Asus ROG flow z13 tablet. So, if I cheat on this hottie, I am either with Asus zenbook fold 17 OLED, z13, or some thinkpad picked me.

@@naeembacha4534 I understand, but 4K in this size is useless. I have had it before, its just pointless. Presence detection and windows hello are 2 features that I don't ever want to use, so its not a consequence to me. It isn't a 2 in 1 either, but it does have a privacy button for the camera that is a physical switch that disconnects it from the computer. I used to be into 4K smaller laptops, now I find that QHD is much better in smaller sizes as it is more usable and you aren't just using 200% screen size elements (effective 1080p). I use my Ideapad 700 with 100-125% scaling. Works amazingly and the OLED screen kills everything else on the market. I have many laptops but this one really is special with its amazing audio, battery life and overall usability. The intel models are just hot, loud, expensive and will have poor battery life. I have a 12th gen laptop and its a pile of crap to say the least.... it uses more power than my 3900x desktop and cannot stay under 100C even with the fans in hair dryer mode and that is a 16" laptop.

AMD makes all the difference in the world. It runs generally cool, uses less power and delivers more performance on the go. Intel hasn't even been competitive in laptops for years. Would be nice if you could actually put AMD into the flagship design instead of this failed Intel crap. It doesn't matter how many features you pack into a laptop when the core of it just sucks. Poor battery life, sky high thermals and the myriad of bugs and exploits sure to come with Intel's slip-shot design methods these days don't go with high prices. They are for bargin bin laptops only. Instead the inverse is true and AMD is in the bargin bin laptops with much better performance and thermals and Intel is how you become disappointed you spent $1000+ on a mess. I think as laptop vendors have people walk away from their brands due to stuff like this terrible laptop reviewed in this video, maybe they will start to wake up and see that nobody wants to buy Intel these days.

@@fini8874 Intels platform is terrible. Far behind AMD in terms of heat, battery life, etc. The other issue is the graphics side; AMD graphics are much stronger than Intels and more useful in general. Not just for gaming but even for everyday tasks. Usually these thin laptops based on modern Intel chips have issues lasting more than 1-1.5 years before they die due to excessive heat. These chips typically idle at 60C+ with many idling at 75c and hitting 100C the second you even load web pages or applications. Any actual usage of the chip has it hitting 100-110C. Meanwhile the AMD version idles at 35-42C and hits 85C max. During normal tasks it typically doesn't hit 60C, max is 72C without setting the laptop on high power mode. 72C is full cores loaded on lower power.

So here is my speculation as to why the battery life in your light load test seems low given the capacity. In truth, if you look at the current capacity of batteries, the average Laptop goes from 3400 - 7000mah. Thin and light hover around the 4400-5000mah. For example, my Envy X360 2020 Ryzen model has a 51Wh battery, 3 cells @ 11.45V + 4450mah. (Also the 13in model, with the 4500U*). That falls around the 13 hour mark in this test also. This machine you've tested has a 4 cell 75Wh battery @ 15.52V + 4835mah. The current capacity difference is roughly ~ 385mah + 1 cell extra @ ~3.7V. In reality? 4 cells allows for lower current across each cell and current drops in a series config. 3 is similar, but with high current. A well designed battery with battery management tools for longetivity will ensure that 1 cell doesn't drain faster than the others. (A lot of battery stuff I cannot rmr, so meh). Anyways, 75Wh is accurate.. but the true capacity is only 8% larger (we are talking current capacity), versus 51-62Wh batteries of the same caliber (albeit 1 less cell). Note they are other factors, that I may not have mentioned in typing out this comment. I just wanted to focus on the battery*

@@israellewis5484 "Grass is blue. Disprove me." lmao Following your logic, the 54kWh (350V, 154Ah) battery in a Tesla Model 3 would have the same capacity as six Anker 337 power banks (3.6V, 26.8Ah). That's just not how batteries work - like, at all.

Watching this in August 2022 and I'm not sure if I can count more than five laptops based on the Ryzen 6000 series. This is getting ridiculous. Was the 6000 series Zen3+ unveiling a PR stunt entirely? Are they unable to manufacture chips or is it that they can't close deals with laptop makers in the mighty presence of Intel? Because we don't see Intel having trouble supplying dozens of laptops with Alder Lake processors. I'm beginning to think that if I want a machine with the latest processor, I should forget about AMD and just buy something that's AVAILABLE, and that's 99% Intel.

We are starting to see plenty of the new Zenbook 13s with 6800u here in China and Southeast Asian market and it is reasonably priced at around $1000 usd, maybe more of these will coming to US and EU this Fall

@@gartblaum Interesting, thanks for the input! I'm afraid that even with the arrival of new Zenbooks elsewhere, Ryzen-based laptops are still short on variety. I mean still plenty of 13-inch models but not a lot of 15-inch, and as someone who relies on a laptop for daily-driving, 15 inch is essential.

Basic is $5-800, entry level is $8-1100, intermediate is $1100-1500, and enthusiast is $1500+ all for desktop of course. God forbid someone spend $2000+ on a damn desktop!

Am I losing my mind, or is anytime you say that laptop webcams are alright all I see is terrible image quality? It does seem that your filming setup is almost the worst case scenario for them...
